Mounjaro - stomach pain should I stop?

Hi everyone,

Been a lurker for a while but 1st time posting here.

I've been on mounjaro for 8 weeks, staying at 2.5. It's been truly life changing for me mentally, as well as allowing me to lose weight and increase exercise.

Over the last week, I started experiencing abdominal pain. Up until this point, I'd had no side effects besides very light nausea a couple days after injecting. This pain is more towards the top of my stomach and comes and goes, griping and then fading away. At first I thought I'd made dinner too spicy so switched to bland food for a few days, but I can't seem to notice a pattern. It is slightly better today (day 5) but it's still there.

I just don't know what I should do? I'm due to jab tomorrow but will likely hold off. But should I see a doctor to see if it is something like pancreatitis?

And annoyingly I've just had a brand new pen delivered!

I'd love to know any similar experiences/recommendations?

Thanks so much xx

I think the doctor is a good idea.

I would call GP in the morning. Hopefully it's nothing, but pancreatis is a risk with these medications so definitely get checked out before continuing. I'm sure you will be fine but you need to err on the side of caution.

It's possibly caused by acid, like the start of an ulcer, but medical advice should certainly be sought as the symptoms can initially be quite similar to gallbladder pain.

If it is a few days before you are seen, an antacid like Gaviscon/ Rennies or a stronger treatment Esomeprazole could be bought over the counter or in the supermarket/ online and tried in the meantime.

Are you drinking lots of water? Mounjaro does dehydrate which leads to severe side affects like kidney and pancreas diseases. To avoid this you must drink 2-3 litres per day, the patient information sheet in the box does specify this. You also may be sensitive to some foods, common triggers are heavy carbs like pasta, pizza, fatty, fried or greasy food and alcohol. Try and think back to what you ate before you got ill.

Thanks everyone, I appreciate your replies.

Yes I drink tonnes of water, and I've been eating basically the same meals for the last two months on repeat which doesnt include any of those! That's why I was so concerned. I have read all the supplied info and as much research as I can.

I think I'll pause the meds and make an appt tomorrow

I’d be straight to the doctor mentioning possible pancreatitis, fingers crossed for you.

I'm just wondering what the doctor said? I'm the exact same just now. Due jag 8 on Thursday but hesitant till I speak with my GP. Gutted as I've been doing so well up until now :((

@Flossityann and @JG1586 Did you see a GP and find this was anything? I'm getting this now - hurts a few minutes after eating. I'm due to do jab 5 tonight and haven't really had any side effects so far, at least not that have worried me.

Yeah so I ended up in a&e with this, it was gastritis I had. Basically my own fault, I wasn't eating anywhere near enough and my stomach acid was "eating my stomach alive" (gp in ooh words to me) I just started taking omeprazole and eating little and often and ive been fine since

BelleEpoque27 · 02/01/2026 16:34

@JG1586 Ouch. Thank you! That seems unlikely as I've been eating regular meals (although smaller than usual). I'll try a Rennie and hope it goes away 😬
