Measuring your bonus dose

How are people measuring their bonus dose for accuracy? I tried the hard twist at the end of my first 2.5 pen, but I couldn't be sure how much was in there. So I extracted with a syringe and it was 0.4ml. I only had larger syringes and didn't much fancy the pain of those so threw it away (in hindsight I realise I should have got smaller needles).

But I'm curious, for those of you using the hard twist - once the mechanism is broken how can you know how much is going in? I'd prefer to do the hard twist as it's simpler, but I don't like not knowing exactly the dose I'm injecting.

The hard twist used to work and you could turn it to the one and get a measured dose. Worked for my first 5 pens, then I think they changed the design of the pen so it doesn’t anymore. I had 3 pens where it didn’t work.

I use separate luer lock or slip 1ml syringes and 6mm needles from uk medi (they also have 4mm if you prefer them)

@WeAllHaveWings I've bought those luer lock syringes and 4mm tips from ukmedi. So do I screw a top onto the syringe then put it in th red bit of the mounjaro pen and pull out the dose then unscrew the tip and put a fresh tip on for injection? Will the liquid stay in the syringe without the tip on?

Hoping to do bonus dose on Fri never done it before

@Fatmumslim01 that's what I do.

Open end of wrappers on both needles but keep in wrappers as they are sterile
Screw on first needle holding outside of wrapper and then remove from wrapper
Extract a little more than you need with first needle and keep the syringe upright
Put the cap back on the first needle
Unscrew first needle from syringe, then put on the new one while in its wrapper
Can put down at this point if you want as it is still in it's wrapper and vacuum should hopefully mean it doesn't leak
When ready to use remove wrapper
Remove cap, prime to the correct dose ml you want

(she is a bit annoying and it is different with the Mounjaro vial, but you will get the idea that it doesn't leak out)

I order 10 luer lock from UK Medi, but realised last week they have sent me a mixture of luer lock and luer slip with reduced dead space syringes. I tried the luer slip last week and it also works with the same needles, but I prefer the luer lock even though it has dead space, it is easier to change the needles and feels more secure, the slip needed a good tug to get it back off.

I have a 12mm syringe and only put it in half way. I usually get around 0.8ml so slightly more than a standard dose, did you extract everything that was in there as often I have to rotate it to get the dregs from the bottom. I also don't prime after the initial prime at the start of a pen as everytime I insert the needle tip for the subsequent doses, a drop of fluid forms at the end of the needle so I know it's primed/air removed. That saves me extra so many drops for the extra dose. I also use the same Braun syringe with fixed needle end for extracting and jabbing, just have to be careful to not hit the bottom of the plunger when extracting so it doesn't go blunt. Hard twist has only worked three times in 6 pens and gives one full dose as you turn to 1 but when I want to go up a dose, its handy to have that little bit extra dose to bridge the gap. I find the syringe is so fine I don't even feel it!

Thanks everyone , sounds like you've all moved on from the hard twist. I'll have a think about getting some finer needles.
