End bonus dose

Taking 2.5mg doses x4 on 2.5mg pen. Got syringe to extract last “bonus dose” as others call it, since pen locks and not wanting any waste. My question is do you use the long needle to then inject? Assume you push in only slightly. Nervous to use compared to normal pen syringes which are pretty painless. What are others doing?

I buy needles that are not "long". How long is the needle you have bought? If 6mm or less fine to inject as usual. If 8mm be careful of injection technique and do a skin fold/go in at 45 degrees.

More than 8mm I personally wouldn't use and buy shorter needles.

I struggled to get the bonus dose and didn’t want to start using different needles so I broke the plastic end to completely remove it. I just over-twisted it. There’s an opening that you can squeeze a skewer or similar through and push the dose out.
the opening is small but very easy to break (I did, with a screwdriver) and you can then use a pen or something thicker than a skewer to give better purchase and more control

It sounds more complicated than it is.

How do you measure the dose that way @SargeMimpson ?

There could be anything in there from 0.5ml to 0.9ml, probably less of a problem on a low dose 2.5mg pen if you are going up to 5mg on your next pen anyway, but if you want to stay at a consistent dose, or are on higher dose pen it becomes more of a problem.

SargeMimpson · 13/04/2025 15:19

I just used a ruler and marked the glass where I wanted to stop. I had measured the previous couple of weeks to ensure consistency

yikes, I’ll pass 🤣

I use a Braun 12mm syringe with fixed needle for both extracting and injecting as it was very cheap 5.24 for 10 from SHD medical. I only insert it half way though and I don't feel it at all as it's really fine, in fact I feel the standard needle more than the syringe. The hard twist has only worked on 50% of pens but with the syringe i can extract a little more which is handy when i want to move up a dose.
