Pen finished early

So I went to give my 4th dose today and the pen wouldn’t turn. There is liquid still left in the pen. When i called the rep she said where the plunger is is consistent with the pen finishing. I know some of you even get a 5th dose out so I am sure this is not correct as there is clearly liquid left in the pen. Any advise to what I can do?

Did you try and inject at all today, or was it not turning to the 1 position even before trying to inject?

Could you post a picture of the pen? Is the plunger lined up with the last raised line marker on the glass vial, nearest to the red seal end of the pen?

Order 1ml insulin syringes with needles. I got mine from Amazon. Then you can extract the liquid from the end of the pen and use the syringe to inject. It’s really easy.

Normal after 4 doses to have some liquid left in the pen.

Many extract using a syringe as there is enough there for a full 5th dose (0.6ml)

Buy syringes from a medical supplier - NOT amazon as there is no guarantee they are human grade as they cannot sell.

There's always what looks like a lot of liquid left after 4 doses.

If it really has moved to the 4th marker position, then all you can do now is try to extract the remaining liquid. Either through trying to force the pen mechanism to turn by twisting it hard. But this can be impossible to do, or it can totally break the mechanism. Otherwise, you will need to buy separate syringes and extract the medication that way.

If you are absolutely sure that it is the fourth dose (not meaning to be patronising, but I have to go back through my calendar notes and check!) and you weren't able to administer it then your pen is faulty.

yeah looks like i need to get a new pen. Will also try and get hold of a needle and syringe to try and extract the remaining liquid

Can you figure out what has happened to the fourth dose? It must have gone somewhere!

You've either already had 4 doses, or you've massively overprimed and wasted a dose. It's probably the former and you've miscounted your weeks. Happens surprisingly often.

Don’t do what I did and ask in Boots to buy insulin syringes. I was dressed very smart wearing a suit, had two children with me…….. I was pulled to one side and quizzed by three staff members, made to feel like a criminal! I explained that it was for mounjaro prescribed by a GP, offered to show them online, but they continued to pull faces at each other, ask loads of questions and then refused to sell them to me 🙈

So ordered them from Amazon Prime and they arrived the next day. I posted the link up thread.

Be very wary of buying syringes from Amazon. They are not medical grade. The often say not to pierce skin with them and the link above, just says they're useful for glueing!!

Use UKMedi for sterile needles.
