Hair loss

Has anyone suffered with bad hair loss whilst being on monjaro?

I’ve been so lucky otherwise and not had any side affects. I’m currently on 7.5. But in the last month or so have noticed I’m shedding so much hair.

Yes, this happened to me. It stopped after about 3 months and now I have lots of regrowth. It's a side effect of losing weight rather than the medication itself, not that it makes any difference when it's happening!

Yes! Mine started just after Christmas, started in August. It's still shedding, but does seem to go through phases. I am seeing regrowth. My hair is definitely thinner, but I keep it much shorter than usual which I dobt mind as it actually suits me with a much thinner face and everyone says I look so much younger. I'm just hoping that the shedding calms down soon!

Yes! But I don't think MJ is causing it, I think its weightloss in general. I had stopped losing and had lots of regrowth (aided by biotin) but I've noticed this past week its started shedding quite a bit again yet I've been maintaining my weight. My protein has gotten a bit low these past couple of weeks so I'm going to try to address that to see if it makes a difference.

Thank you all!! I’m really hoping it slows down as my weight stabilises.

check Your iron levels. I habe androgenic alopecia and saw a specialist who said to maintain hair and nail quality you need to have iron levels above the recommended range at about 70. I've also started mixing collagen into my morning smoothies.

Sorry, yes. It’s a thing and it’s not the MJ, it’s the weight loss. It’s called telogen effluvium and it will grow back but because hair growth is cyclical it takes a while. Supplements containing biotin and iron help, as does zinc.

PorkerNoMore · 10/04/2025 13:35

I definitely had telogen effluvium about 3 months in with MJ. It’s to be expected with any weightloss, but when I was in the midst of it, it was alarming. So much was coming out every day.

I am lucky to have masses of hair, so it’s not been noticeable to anyone but me. It lasted for about 12 weeks and has thankfully stopped now. I don’t know if it helped, but I started taking biotin, zinc and iron.

Losing weight too fast causes hair loss and also affects nails and skin. Also if not enough protein.

TooExtraImmatureCheddar · 10/04/2025 16:30

My hair has been thinning too - on MJ but also before I started it. If it goes in 3 month cycles, is that 3 months of growth followed by 3 months of shedding? Or in 3 months will you shed for a bit and then grow for a bit?

I am just coming out of a hair loss phase, it started early feb and is just returning to normal now. It felt like I was loosing so much hair each day, I can physically feel the difference but I don’t think it looks noticeable. I had super thick hair to start with, but I was starting to worry.
In Another thread, someone said they felt vit d helped and interestingly I stopped taking vit d at the time I started to loose my hair. I restarted it a few weeks ago and now noticing the reduction in high loss. It’s probably circumstantial but maybe worth a try.
