Rockdaylia44 · 03/04/2025 15:01

Does anyone have bad side effects from using this. I feel very nauseous currently been on it 6 weeks.
.Very Concerned a lady in our yoga class started on 2.5 going great 10lbs loss, within 4 days of going up to 5 she's in hospital very ill with kidney failure dehydration vomiting.. been told due to this injection. Very worried about continuing 😕 is this a 1 off horror story or more common than they tell you.

It's not really either of those options. We are told of the possible side effects, in lots of detail including the rates at which they occur, it's not being hidden from you or glossed over. Assuming you've read the patient information leaflet, and the information from your supplier.

Your example of your yoga acquaintance becoming ill is unusual but not impossible. The risks of serious side effects has to be weighed against the benefits of losing weight when you are obese or morbidly obese. There are hundreds of thousands of people taking Mounjaro for weight loss, and some of those will get serious side effects. The very large majority won't.

If you are very worried about continuing because of hearing about someone else's issues, then stop. It's really as simple as that.

Hear what you're saying, I just wanted to know if this is an isolated situation or is this common using mounjaro as organ failure is pretty serious

About to enter my seventh week: honestly not a single side effect.

In fact, I feel incredible. Working out 5/6 days a week, zero food noise. Loving it!

UpUpUpU · 03/04/2025 17:33

Other than feeling a bit tired and ropey early on, I’ve been fine the last 6 months.

SilenceInside · 03/04/2025 17:34

It will be the dehydration that has affected the kidneys, not the Mounjaro directly. Yes it’s really unusual and uncommon to have developed kidney failure, but I would caution taking second or third hand retellings of people’s medical details at face value. Unless she’s told you herself of course.

SilenceInside · 03/04/2025 17:35

I’d assume that every single person posting on all the monthly support threads for the past year or so have not had kidney failure! That’s probably hundreds of people.

I don't think they are lying about how common serious side effects are. They are incredibly rare but are a risk you have to weigh up. Totally worth it for me. I'm mid 40s and my weight was starting to impact on my general health so it was a choice of pretty much certainly developing a chronic condition or tiny risk of serious side effects. Every medication has risks and weight loss drugs are no different. I am very careful to use them as prescribed and tested and buy from registered pharmacies though.

DarkForces · 03/04/2025 17:40

If you are very nauseous you should consult your supplier as they should be able to prescribe something to help

Mounjaropen · 03/04/2025 17:44

@Rockdaylia44 there will be instances where people have become ill - in the same way all drugs have the potential to make you ill if your body doesn't tolerate it. I'm not allergic to penicillin, many people are.

The issue with MJ is that you have:
-People taking it that are not eligible because they have lied to an online provider
-People taking it from an unofficial source because it is cheap - a couple of weeks back on a BBC panorama type they showed that some people had bought dodgy MJ only to find it was actually insulin which will make you seriously ill if not kill you
-People taking MJ then eating all of the crap in the world
-People not realising they are dehydrated because their suppression is so strong
-People going to third party providers and being injected with beyond the starter dose from the off

If you are taking the drug sensibly and sourced from a licensed prescriber, eating sensibly, exercising sensibly, keeping hydrated and taking the correct dose whilst keeping an eye on your body you should be fine.If MJ is causing health anxieties then stop taking it.

Personally I have felt fine on MJ and have lost nearly 40lbs since November but it has been a concerted effort to do that.

I’m on 5mg and haven’t had any bad side effects since starting in feb. I have a cupboard full of imodium and ginger things for sickness because of all the negative stuff I read before starting but luckily haven’t needed any of it yet.

Lola3034 · 03/04/2025 19:13

You HAVE TO stay well hydrated while taking mounjaro. I think it mentions it in a leaflet that you get with it, that you need to drink a lot. I would say, like pp mentioned, she didn't drink enough. It is easy to forget, when you have very strong suppression.

Does anyone else on mounjaro get sugar cravings - specifically dried fruit ? I get a headache and dizzy spells which stop if I eat raisins etc . Not craving chocolate or sweets . Any advice ?

JMSA · 04/04/2025 00:53

The only side effect I seem to have is absolute exhaustion. I also feel slightly ‘off’ but nothing I can truly put my finger on. I’ve been on it for only a couple of days.

No and I’d keep an eye on that. Are you monitoring your macros? Do you have a decent protein intake? Especially at the start of the day? Dried fruit is not terrible but very carb heavy ( I love dates but limit myself to 4 at a time with a coffee as a post dinner treat) but try adding a really healthy size of servings of both fresh fruit and veg to your main meal of the day to see if that reduces it. Don’t forget to keep hydrated to eliminate the fact you are thirsty rather than hungry.

Probably low blood sugar.

Maybe get a blood sugar monitor (they r v cheap) and check your levels when you next feel like this.

I had lots of blood sugar dips in my first 12 weeks on mj. All ok now as my body's got used to it, though does still happen. Causes me headache, dizziness and in my case, a need for chocolate! though I tend to grab a dextrose sweet or lucosade instead which sorts me out x

(Apparently only diabetics get blood sugar problems on mj but I don't have diabetes and my low blood sugar is most definitely a side effect of mj. So hoping they add it to the side effects list for non diabetics soon)

Your gut bugs are telling you they want the fibre in dried fruit, comply with the wishes of your internal overlords, no good will come from trying to defy them. Listen to your gut.

I started a thread just a while ago that I’m having some on 10mg , mostly exhaustion and headaches that being said I do need to up my water intake so could be that
but all in all it’s been the best thing I could of done to help myself , my ibs is hardly as painful these days too

flowersinmyheart · 06/04/2025 10:41

Thank you so much for all your comments . They are very helpful ! I will buy a blood sugar monitor and see what is happening with my levels . I have bought some Locosade and will try that when I get a dizzy spell . Will also get some glucose sweets to keep in my bag !
