No. Firstly you're only on the introductory dose and you have to let the drug build up, and secondly it's not meant to eradicate hunger entirely. Being hungry is fine, it's normal.

Eat up protein fibre etc but don't eat to some arbitrary number. If hungry eat. Eat non upf food and a sensible amount St meals to fill up.

MJ will work.

I thought that’s how Mountjaro works, by reducing hunger. I went back to the pharmacist who prescribed it and she said it should work instantly.

The pharmacist is talking out of her bottom. And yes, it does reduce hunger but doesn't eliminate it completely! You still get hungry, but less so, and you will feel fuller after smaller amounts. However if you had read the guidance from your prescriber you'd know that the starting dose is not considered a therapeutic dose and many people don't respond much if at all. It's also common for the effects to wear off after a few days at the low doses.

Your pharmacist is misinformed! It takes between 8 and 72 hours for a dose to reach its peak levels in your system. Also, it will be working in your system even if you have some hunger, hunger is not unexpected or something to try to totally eliminate.

I took my 4th dose of my first syringe of mounjaro last night. I'm still experiencing hunger pangs but food isn't always on my mind like it was previously and when I go shopping I don't get this mental tug of war with 'should I really buy that'?

I've just eaten a bacon sandwich but because I follow Slimming World it was bacon with no fat, and wholemeal bread slices.

In fact I really can't be asked what goes into my basket now, I'm simply not that interested. I come away with decidedly less food than usual. Especially tempting foods which for me would have been chocolate, cheese, olives and salami.

My mate bought me 2 bars of fancy chocolate amongst other presents for my Birthday on 30th March, and I still have a bar and a 3/4 left. Before starting Mounjaro I'd have wolfed the lot in a day!

Thank you so much for your replies it does reassure me

Who is your pharmacist/provider? They sound very, and worryingly ill-informed.

I saw this on another thread which might be helpful:

personally I didn't experience much suppression on 2.5mg. My first month's weight loss came largely from a calorie controlled diet I started on day 1 of mj, willpower and a bit of placebo effect. I have stuck to a low calorie diet since, which obviously has been made a lot easier now the mj has kicked in (which started at 5mg and is now pretty good at 7.5mg). I have heard this is a familiar story from others - that the effects of mj are more noticeable from 7.5mg.

This is a 'beautician' who is selling you syringes of shite bought from Alibaba, complete with cover story about big pharma profits and exact copies and sheeples paying too much and my dog walker is a nurse and agrees with me, right...? Because no pharmacist would say this.

It isn't how Mounjaro works. Appetite suppression is a side effect that will eventually wear off. MJ works by increasing satiety. You are meant to feel hungry and you are meant to eat properly.

Mysticmaiden · 03/04/2025 20:01

It usually takes me 2-3 days after injecting every dose to feel its full effects until I started 10mg and so far 6th week on 10mg and it's full suppression every day. Most jabs wear off after 5 days as that is its half life and why its a weekly injection. So it's normal if you've recently jabbed to feel hungry until it fully kicks back in.
