Skipping a week?

I started taking Mounjaro 3 weeks ago and have lost around 8lbs so far. I am going on holiday next week (all inclusive!), can I miss the injection and start again the following week as I don't want to be ill on holiday (will be drinking alcohol but planning to try and stick to healthy eating!). I am still on the 2.5 dose. Thank you

You can experience symptoms when coming off the medication, could you just skip the alcohol?

SilenceInside · 30/03/2025 14:49

You can skip a week, but it won’t mean that you don’t have any Mounjaro in your system, you’ll have less but not nothing. I don’t see why you’d want to skip a week tbh. There’s no reason to think you’d be ill on it if you aren’t at the moment.

My brother has lost five stone and always skips holiday weeks with no ill effects

JohnTheRevelator · 30/03/2025 16:47

I did this about 18 months when I went on holiday. I was on Wegovy 1 mg,had been on that dose for 6 weeks and on Wegovy for 4 months altogether. I just missed the dose then took it on the day I came back from holiday. Seemed to work just fine, and during the week I was away,I actually didn't gain any weight.

WeAllHaveWings · 30/03/2025 18:13

If you do skip a dose the concentration in your system will drop lower than usual while on holiday, but will still be there, and before you next dose. No problem for your 4th dose of 2.5mg. So you would be injecting on days 0,7,14,(21),28.

Fine it you are staying on 2.5mg, but if planning to move to 5mg I personally would let 2.5mg build back up to full concentration before trying a 5mg dose. So you probably need to do 2 doses/weeks of 2.5mg on your return to do that.

Two ways to do that. Use the spare liquid in your 2.5mg pen and inject a dose on day 35. This is 5 days over the instructions to discard after 30 days. I do this, keep my pen in the fridge and I am ok with the risks, up to you to risk assess that for yourself.

Other way is, if your next pen is 5mg, is take 2.5mg from the 5mg pen by click counting.

What’s the hurry? A week off will make little difference in the long run. Enjoy your holiday, it’s more important.

jellyfishperiwinkle · 31/03/2025 07:51

I would absolutely be carrying on, on holiday and enjoyjng myself without feeling the need to eat or drink too much.

xanthomelana · 31/03/2025 07:51

I skipped a dose for holiday when I first started. Totally pointless because as others have said it’s still in your system. I didn’t eat hardly anything despite skipping it so I just carry on taking it as normal now.

IReallyNeedThisToWork · 31/03/2025 11:50

Three holidays so far on MJ and have carried on taking it as normal. Have eaten and drunk whatever I wanted whilst away with no problems whatsoever.

Why do you think you’ll be ill from alcohol? Has that happened so far?

PassMeTheCookies · 31/03/2025 13:06

I haven’t started yet, but am strongly considering it. I will be on holiday around week 8-9 if I order this week. Can I ask, how do you travel with it, for those that have? How does it work on the flight?

anon168231245630 · 31/03/2025 13:10

I skip a few weeks a year and I’m diabetic. It’s fine.

Newyearnewmewoooop · 31/03/2025 13:13

I’m going to skip when I go away, as I don’t want to drink alcohol when I take it. And I love having a drink on holiday so want to enjoy it

LaurieFairyCake · 31/03/2025 16:59

Will make no difference, you will still not enjoy the alcohol or food 😬
or rather you will enjoy the first few sips and bites and then you will be DONE

Leftittothelastminute · 31/03/2025 19:18

Thanks all. I've no reason to think I'll have any adverse side effects as I've only had a slight bit of nausea so far, I think I was just scaring myself with the side effects!

It doesn’t interact with alcohol at all. I don’t understand why you would skip the week. You can still eat and drink, just not as much?

JosephsCoat · 28/04/2025 09:59

Bumping to see how this went for you OP? I'm on 2.5, no real side effects, going away next month and considering doing the same. Not so much for the food, it's a fairly bog standard all inclusive and I feel I've paid not to have to worry about feeding the kids as much as anything else. But just for the faff of it being another thing to pack, worrying about travelling with it (I know this isn't logical, I can be a bit anxious around travel).

I do still feel pretty suppressed on the final day so am thinking it'll probably have some effect still.
