When to go up a dose?

Hello
I have had my 4th injection of 2.5 today.

I have had a rough few weeks, diarrhea and sickness that stayed for three full days (after each injection)
Was in hospital being treated for symptoms of pancreatitis (blood test came back negative) and I was discharged after iv fluid.

I have lost 5kg so far 🥳 BUT I'm starving all of the time, I constantly look for sweet things (nothing to do with MJ, that's just me 😂) and find if I start, I cannot stop.
I am also very worried about having problems with pancreatitis or gallbladder issues as I do struggle to drink plenty

Do I reorder 2.5 and see how that goes for another month or should I go up? I know it's supposed to be a loading dose but I'm so worried I'm going to get even more unwell. I also don't want to waste money

Thank you for any help

Are you sure this medication is for you? This sounds like pretty serious side effects.

Since you've already taken the jab for this week, I'd focus on ways to get your water intake up to see if that helps.

Do you like icy cold or room temp? Drinking from a bottle, glass or straw? Flavoured water/dilute juice?
I got an Air Up for my kids to encourage more water drinking, but it doesn't work for 2 in our home, but works for the other 2.

And avoid "junk" sweet foods- if I have more than a few squares of chocolate I'm physically sick. I can eat pears, berries, watermelon etc to my hearts content and after a while off "junk" I'm finding fruit tastes sweeter. (I still eat the odd cookie- sometimes I just eat a little bit of one and leave the rest. Thats a new experience for me!)

What did your provider and the Drs in hospital advise?

ItsStillWork · 29/03/2025 11:02

I wouldn’t go up a dose if the side effects are that bad as the side effects increase with each dose.

however it’s suppose to suppress your appetite and really reduce the cravings so if it’s not doing that, it’s not actually working.

The hospital are fine with me continuing the injections, they put the symptoms of pancreatitis down to dehydration (sore stomach that was spreading around my lower back, being sick after eating food, fever) and yes the symptoms got better after I had some fluid.
I'm managing about a litre of water a day, I find water fills me up and makes my stomach sore.

I messaged the provider only yesterday so I haven't yet heard back.

I don't want to admit it's not for me if I'm being honest, I've always struggled with dieting and so I fear I'm always going to be overweight if I don't try with the injections.
I keep all my water in the freezer, I work in a chiller so my water is always cold as I can't stand like room temp water. Has to be cold cold but even then at work, I can't constantly be sipping away.

I'm going to be honest, I've been a stay at home mum for lomger than I've been in work so at home I get bored, I snack and I graze. At work I don't because my mind and my hands are busy, so is it that I'm just used to having something to eat or that the injections aren't working
I've never stuck to three meals a day, its more like four meals a day with five or six snacks in between (and I'm talking cookies, crisps, a cake, a yoghurt) so imo it's still early days to train my mind and my stomach

My partner doesn't agree with me taking the injections so I can't really speak to him. He just says to excersise more
(Its worth noting I am coeliac and have an under active thyroid) so I feel like I already have 2 medical conditions battling against me in losing weight

I'm not sure what to do

Speak to your provider being fully transparent about your side effects and hospital stay.

If they are a decent provider they will be able to advise if safe to continue and, if it is, how to manage side effects- they can support you and prescribe anti sickness, medication for diarrhoea, or rehydration so you hopefully don't get so ill again. If they don't, move provider as it sounds like you need additional support.

The diarrhoea and sickness can be food related, fatty oily greasy food can trigger GI symptoms, it also activates the gallbladder so to limit gallbladder issues try to limit fat in diet. I've been ill twice in over 6 months and it was after processed meat..few slices of meatball pizza and a home cooked beef burger. Some are triggered by heavy carbs, I read someone being very ill after pasta. Best you can do is drink lots of water and stick to lean protein like chicken and veg

I do eat quite a lot of pasta in my meals because obviously been gluten free isn't many options except rice, to have with chicken
That might be it
I have chicken or mince if I'm having dinner, if I'm at work I don't have anything

I think it may be wise on the same dose.

I’m on a different WL drug but with an under active thyroid and just started a second box of 0.50 Wegovy as received (pharmacy) advice not to go up.

I’ve had a disheartening three weeks of remaining the same each weigh in but feel it is doing something when it comes to food and meal time.
Lost 3lb today.

my parents are anti-it though I did get the all-clear about suspected glaucoma. My brother who is much more severe diabetic also used to stay at 2.5 on MJ because it made his life extra difficult as a paraplegic.

KoalaKoKo · 29/03/2025 19:16

Stick to 2.5mg until you get the symptoms under control. I think you should get some electrolytes, I put a Zero tab in a pint of water everyday which really helps with dehydration - there are lots of different brands though. Maybe try upping your fluids with herbal teas, decaf tea, cordial, sparkling water? I find if I don’t get enough water I feel ill. The other thing I find is if I go for too long without eating I feel ill so try and eat a small amount every few hours - I’ve gotten some protein powder and have a shake or even just grab a slice of cheese from the fridge. Having too large a portion or a lot of heavy food (deep fried/cream etc…) can also cause issues - especially if I over eat the day I am taking my dose. Alcohol can also set me off. I have no side effects at my current dose (5mg) but had awful ones before.

Try veg or potatoes if you need some carbs. I was gluten free for 5 years due to intolerances, most are made from rice flour but you might get some made from lentils or chickpeas if you want to try something different. Just stick to protein and veg for a while. I would make my own gluten free bread too, a lot of the shop bought GF items are highly processed unfortunately. Increase your protein, have Greek yoghurt, cottage cheese, mixed nuts, eggs, feta, houmous etc try some kefir to get some good bacteria in your system, that should help too
