Golden Dose

Hi,

I have just had my last injection out of my first pen - but it looks like there is loads of medication left in it. Is that right - I was kind of expecting there to be a lot less left that there is. I know there is meant to be a bit left over for wastage, you lose a bit when priming the needle etc but it looks like so much.

I believe I am using the pen correctly and have had great results, suppression etc but it just looks odd to me. Like there will be so much wasted - I could probably get a couple of doses out of it ?

Am I doing something wrong or is this usual ?

Surely if you're calling the medication the "golden dose" then you know the answer to your own question....

The extra medication is there in case you need to prime more than once per injection because of a damaged needle, or in case of other issues. It is usually 0.6 to 0.8ml ish. A normal dose is 0.6ml, so you can get one normal dose out of the remaining liquid, or a slightly higher one if you use more than 0.6ml.

So, it's totally normal and you're not doing anything wrong.

As above poster says, your thread is called golden dose so you must have read up on it. It's your decision what you want to do but there will only be enough for 1, not more

Exactly - how do you know about "golden dose" if you don't know about the excess

There are lines on the side of the vial which will show where the plunger should be approx for the 2nd, 3rd and 4th doses. Always worth keeping an eye on the plunger position before and after each dose.

If you have significantly more left you haven't had a full dose on one or more of your previous injections. Are you sure you have had 4 doses already?

Not sure why some people are being edgy? Do you have a pic of what you have left x

Does it line up with the last bump line on the glass vial? That’s a clear measure that you can easily check.

I’ve had another look and it does seem to line up with the lines on the glass so there is probably just more than I was expecting there to be left. I hadn’t seen those so I’m probably ok.

I’ve had good results in terms of suppression etc so I’m quite sure I’ve had the right dose and it’s working, even on 2.5.

Thank you for those replies trying to help - just to clarify I did my research before starting this journey and have been following the boards since too. There are many mentions of the golden dose on the various threads just to answer how I knew about it.

It just looks like more than one dose / a lot of medication left in my pen, but i suppose I’ll see if i try to get it out next week. I always was rubbish at estimating quantities…

one posted mentioned an ulterior motive - not sure what that would be really beyond stretching my pen to another week (unless I’m missing a golden opportunity on some sort of black market for this stuff 🤣).
