I've been following Dr Emma on YouTube for a while. I found her 'how I lost 40lbs in 10 weeks' video quite inspiring and I trusted her as she is a GP.

But I have to admit, I was a little worried about the speed of her weight loss. Anyway, we r all different and I guess I thought 'well She's a GP. She must know what she's doing'. In some of her older videos she looks really healthy and happy. But now she looks quite unwell and gaunt in some videos and her hair looks thin and I guess I've just started to wonder whether she's been a bit too quick with her weight loss and whether she is taking things a bit far now and getting a bit thin. If she is becoming a bit disordered in her eating, not sure it's helpful for her to keep telling us she's a GP as it makes what she's doing seem legit, but I do actually now think it's all been too fast and not healthy.

I don't want to bash her, she seems like a lovely genuine person. But she also seems to have been through a lot recently and seems quite defended and perfectionistic which makes me a little worried that she is taking things a bit far and may have some of the traits common in people with disordered eating?

Anyone else think the same or do I need to give my head a wobble and actually she's fine (and even if she's not, none of my business)?

This is her most recent video.

This post is coming from the perspective of 'is she ok?' and concern, and is not meant critically or to bash her. Like I said, she seems lovely.

Never heard of her, because I don’t watch much on video platforms. I don’t see a gaunt woman with thin hair at all.

You could post your concerns directly to her via her social media, or stop watching her content?

SoFlippinCold · 27/03/2025 17:13

I enjoy her content. I think she's great. I have found everything she's posted very informative.

If you think she looks fine it's probably just my imagination. She's probably fine! Thanks

I'm not seeing a gaunt woman with thin hair either. She looks happy and healthy enough to me, and I think it goes to show how warped people's perceptions of others can be when they have lost weight—e.g., 'Oh, you've taken it too far now.' It’s almost like there's an unspoken limit where weight loss is praised until it suddenly isn't, even if the person is perfectly fine. People forget that health isn’t just about appearance, and making assumptions based on looks alone can be really damaging.

SoFlippinCold · 27/03/2025 17:50

Sorry..I was hoping someone who has also been following her may have a view! She just looks v different to how she used to. But like you say, she's probably fine still. She has reported a stressful time recently so maybe it's the stress I'm picking up on compared to how she used to come across in videos.

Thanks for your views both

There have been quite a lot of posts on this forum of people being upset because friends are saying out of faux concern they need to stop now, they shouldn't lose more, they have lost too much. I also hate seeing the media hype and celebs before and after pictures being paraded for judgement and saying they looked awful/gaunt/ill and god forbid "old". Famous or not, all (or most of) these are just people who are just trying to improve their health.

Most of the replies to those kind of posts say your friends are jealous, ignore them, people want you to stay fat to feel better about themselves etc. This is the first post I have seen on this support forum from someone at the other side of that conversation!

The lady (no idea who she is) in the video does not look unwell, or gaunt and she has better hair than me! If you had seen her for the first time, never seen her before her weight loss, would you have had those thoughts?

I think many people have this perception that chubby faces look healthy, maybe because subconsciously those faces are more round/childlike. When someone loses a lot of weight their face does change significantly too, it becomes longer looking (as less wide), it doesn't mean they look gaunt, it just means they now look more like a healthy adult.

I think that kind of weight loss is way too fast.

50 lbs in 3 months! Just because she’s a GP doesn’t mean anything.

I don’t think she looks unwell though. She looks quite bright. Her videos may even be interesting. However, the amount of filler and Botox she has in her face is completely distracting.

She has also done a YouTube video on handbags! Actually, I might watch that one later 😁 . She doesn’t work as a GP or as a doctor or in a medical field anymore. Perhaps she has got a new career in Social media….

One thing I did notice that was interesting, is that she said she didn’t get much food suppression with Mounjara, even though she continued to lose weight. And I must say I have some kind of similar experience.

Anyway thanks for your posting, OP, I hope you dont get bashed too much here <sigh>

Thanks! Yeah I've seen she's done videos on other stuff but I've not taken a look yet! I might do :)!

Oh I hadn't noticed about the filler and Botox! Maybe that's what I am seeing as not 'well'! I don't know!

:) anyway, I'll keep watching her as I like her content!

I'm glad to find this thread here. I'm quite curious about her. She seems to have moved from General Practice to aesthetics to YouTuber.

Yes, I do find her quite an interesting character!

I've watched LOADS of GLP1 YouTubers! But there's something quite unique about Dr Emma.

I think it's the fact she's a GP and is kind of saying it's absolutely fine to loose loads of weight really fast on a GLP1! I mean, it's just a bit different and quirky. In my head, a GP would normally be a bit more conservative and cautious about such things! Though I do genuinely hope she's ok as she has been quite honest and vulnerable in some of her posts.

She’s had a lot of Botox which is making her face movements look a bit odd

Thanks! Another poster said that too. I think that's what is making her look not quite right! I wasn't sure because I follow loads of GLP1 YouTubers, some of whom have lost loads and loads of weight and I haven't thought any of them looked unwell or whatever! But I don't really know what Botox looks like so I would never have thought it was that!

Well at least problem.solved and I now know what was 'wrong'! I guess just a Botox choice :)

I've not seen her very recent ones but did binge watch quite a few. She's really likeable to watch isn't she.

I agree she's got a perfectionist streak about tweaking her body/lifestyle. And I suspect is rather monied/doesn't need to work maybe. And was a serious weight-lifter before. I am fascinated...

But yes I'm aiming not to lose more than 1kg a week and I have a long long way to go. I was surprised she was happy to promote the fast loss. It was really interesting following her recording of it all.

Id love a privileged life so may just be dreaming.... 😂. Weight loss won't actually give me that.

I haven't seen the v recent one but did see her talk about the sad events after discovering she was pregnant.

Finallydoingit24 · 31/03/2025 10:04

I watch her videos and really like her and also she had a late miscarriage recently which might be why she’s not looking her best (although I think she looks good). She had suffered infertility for many years and became pregnant on Mounjaro for the first time ever but then sadly lost the pregnancy.
I think that generally your face gets a bit haggard after significant weight loss but after a few months it fills itself out again. Haven’t noticed the botox or filler that much really but loads of people get that done.
It is pretty rapid weight loss but she was binge eating quite a bit before and had a lot of inflammation. Actually the way she described her relationship to food before and after Mounjaro really resonated with my own experience so I was instantly inspired by her.

I find her fascinating too! And easy to watch compared to some other YouTubers. Though my favourite mounjaro YouTube super queen is Marcea (@ladymawa) :)
