A year on Mounjaro.....

Mounjaroversary · 27/03/2025 15:50

Just like the title says, I am coming up to my 1 year anniversary being on Mounjaro.
I just wanted to post a few musings for anyone interested.

SW 15st 10 with a BMI of 32
CW 11st and I'm bang slap in the middle healthy range.
I've gone from a size 18 to a size 10/12.

So I've lost 4 stone 10 lbs, which a year ago I couldn't have dreamed of.
I'm not longer full of bad skin, high BP, back ache and aches in general are gone, I have so much energy to exercise, I sleep like a log (although I did have insomnia on the higher dose I was in) and all in all, life is good. Autoimmune conditions have seen significant improvement too.

I went up to 7.5mg but it was really tough on me, I was losing well on 5mg so should have really stuck with that, my advice to anyone reading this is if you're on a dose that's working, don't move up, 7.5 made me so nauseous and often sick, ruined my sleep and sucked my energy.

My main side effects were nausea, insomnia due to jitters, and just generally feeling a bit bleh, but it wasn't anything I couldn't deal with. Glycerin suppositories sorted any constipation. I also had a loss of libido,I know this doesn't happen to everyone but unfortunately it did for me.

It has transformed my life, I'm now on a very low maintenance dose with the plan of coming off it completely in the next few months, and I know I can maintain this, I will not go back to being that person I was before.
I've only told my husband, sister and two close friends I'm on it, but I suspect others have guessed, or are at least suspicious.

Happy to answer any questions!

Does Mounjaro suck your energy from you and why?

I'd say because the 7.5 was just too strong, I prob wasn't eating enough, 5mg never did though, I was thoroughly spritely on it!

That is 30 kgs! Wow, well done!
Enjoy your success on this. Be careful to not to go back to unhealthy eating when you get off it.

StrikeForever · 27/03/2025 16:03

Thank you for this post. I’m thinking about starting it. Actually, the decision is taken. My delay is due to being ill with a virus. When I recover, I’ll get the scales out and order it. Is your maintenance dose 2.5?

I now do intermittent fasting and have completely cut out alcohol, I haven't cut anything out of my diet, if I want a treat I will have one, it has really re-educated my way of thinking about food, so no fad diets just eating as unprocessed as possible, not giving myself a hard time about a takeaway (which I still have) and just making better choices.
I also weigh myself daily which I know a lot of people don't like, but I never made myself accountable before I start MJ, didn't even own scales. But now I know my own body a bit better, and although I still have a good amount of fat (especially on my mid section) it seems to be settling comfortably at this weight.
So I'll take it 😊

I stopped having side effects on 7.5.gs and I'm on 10mg now with no side effects. But still great appetite suppression. I realised yesterday zi had forgotten to eat the whole day, I've never forgotten to eat before :-o

I hope you have the same success with it that I have! Make sure you take lots of photos of your progress!
Yes 2.5mg is my maintenance

I just couldn't get on with 7.5mg at all! Glad to hear you're side effect free! I feel lucky that I didn't have to get to the really expensive doses for it to work, but I do wonder if I would have been able to get rid of a bit more belly of I had LOL

Thanks. That’s an interesting update to read.

I’m currently waiting for boots doctors to decide if I can take it! I’ve put on 4 stone since starting in a couple of medications that can cause weight gain. One additional one added last summer has seen another 2 stone go on. I exercise a lot and am very active but I’m just so hungry all the time and crave sugary things.

I have already discussed it with my GP - as one of my medications is listed as potentially being a problem with MJ. No direct medication interaction. However, as MJ slows down activity in the stomach, it may mess with the levels of this drug in my blood, which already has to be monitored regularly to stay in therapeutic range and below toxic range. My GP has offered to increase the monitoring of my drug levels if I take it and when I increase dose. However, I have to get it from somewhere else as it’s not licensed for weight loss on NHS. I’m assuming boots will be one of the cautious suppliers… the form said they’d get back to me in 24 hours. It’s been over that but not heard anything. I guess that means it isn’t an instant no but it isn’t a yes either. And then there’s the worry about toxicity even if it’s being closely monitored! I have meeting with consultant in April so I will likely wait till I see them to take it.

AskingForTheMoonOnAStick · 27/03/2025 16:16

Sorry forgot to say: A huge well done!

SilenceInside · 27/03/2025 16:18

@AskingForTheMoonOnAStickjust fyi but Boots are normally the most expensive supplier for Mounjaro, often over £100 more than the cheapest provider. For no additional services. The website monj.co.uk is a price comparison of registered pharmacies that supply Mounjaro, if you haven’t seen it.

I hope that it all works out and you're able to avail of it, I suppose that is one thing I should mention, I suffer from migraines and taking tablets for it now can be problematic as they take a while to kick in, it's probably one of the very few downsides but I'm lucky that MJ has actually reduced the number of migraines I get!

@Mounjaroversary congratulations! I bet you feel great.

I've just passed my 1 year anniversary, lost 35kg/5 and a half stone, down from 17 and a half to just under 12. I'm BMi 24 now I'd like to get down another stone or at least half, as I'm still a size 14. I'm tall.
I'm up to 13.75mg now (about to go to 15, I had a mid step point as I get a lot of nausea when I go up) as I'm trying to lose the last little bit and then come off it due to cost.
I've had nausea most of the way through on days 1 and 2, especially when stepping up doses and some upset stomach with dose changes and certain foods.
I'm also intermittent fasting as it works best for me.

Mounjaroversary · 27/03/2025 16:24

Thought I'd add a photo. I'm 39, probably should have also mentioned that. My wedding dress I wore 15 years ago (when I was young and beautiful) is too big, I see that as a proper NSV!!

And how do you feel? I wake up everyday excited to put clothes on, it's been a long time since I felt that way!

Ooh thank you! I didn’t know this. I wonder why they’re so much more. I guess if they say yes, I can be confident it should be ok to try it as they’re a pharmaceutical company first, retailer second.

AskingForTheMoonOnAStick · 27/03/2025 16:32

Wow! The photos look amazing! I would love for something similar and it recognise the person in the mirror again. I’m so impressed with what you’ve achieved and @RagzRebooted too.

SilenceInside · 27/03/2025 16:39

@AskingForTheMoonOnAStickBoots are just like all the other pharmacies, including big names like Asda, Superdrug, Lloyds, etc all of whom are cheaper. My NHS prescriptions are sent to me via Pharmacy2U who are way cheaper than Boots. Asda use a pharmacy called Zava to deliver their pharmacy services. If you sign up with Zava direct they are cheaper than Asda as well as Boots. I find it shocking that Boots can charge so much more than other suppliers when they are not delivering any additional services and are leaning on customer’s trust in their name to take almost double the money off them.

well done you
currently trying to persuade my DH to give it a go
What do you think will happen when you eventually come off completely?
Do you think you'll be able to maintain?
this is what he is most worried about, surely nobody wants to be on it for life.

That's a tough question, I have overhauled my life which I never thought possible, I'm keeping a very tight eye on my weight which I think is just going to have to be an everyday thing now, it has definitely made my relationship with food so much better.
I recommend the book 'The obesity code', it really helped me try to understand why I was the way I was, I'm an emotional eater and was abusing alcohol without even realising it
The key was cutting the alcohol out, I still have the very odd drink but I don't enjoy it at all the way I did before.
I am happy to give myself some breathing space weight wise, so as long as I'm under 12 stone I will be content.

Congratulations you look magnificent and clearly you feel good about yourself as well. Is the 'Ozempic face' a myth?

What are the first steps - choose a supplier and then email your weight. Do you have to send a picture? I dont ahve any scales - like to check at the pharmacy - would I need to take a photo of me on the scales?

The threads on here are extensive - are there any quick talking points.

My face looks great (it would be too outing to show you but take my word for it), the only thing I'd say is my neck is a wee bit wrinkly but I had a lot of weight there, so I'm hopeful that it will firm up again, but if it doesn't it's a small price to pay. I have a long, slim neck again, and no breathing issues or snoring at night anymore
Sorry I should have said, yes pick who you want to go with, and they will tell you what they require to get you started.
I'm more than happy to answer any questions you may have.

How do you feel about that? Did it give you a rush and make you think, oh that’s great, maybe I can do this more often? Or did it make you think, this isn’t good and k can’t let it happen again?

I feel a lot better, though I don't feel 'slim' yet. Like I said, still a size 14 and I'd like to get to a 12 which I am hoping another half a stone or so will do. My weight seems to be in different places to last time I lost weight 8 years ago, I got down to 11 and a half stone then and I felt smaller. I think this time I have more belly and less bum!
I'm the same age as you, I don't know if it makes a difference as I'm not that much older than last time, but maybe it does.

Haven't bought that many clothes yet as I'm not at goal, but I'm enjoying feeling slimmer when I lie down or put jeans on!
