A year on Mounjaro.....

Mounjaroversary · 27/03/2025 15:50

Just like the title says, I am coming up to my 1 year anniversary being on Mounjaro.
I just wanted to post a few musings for anyone interested.

SW 15st 10 with a BMI of 32
CW 11st and I'm bang slap in the middle healthy range.
I've gone from a size 18 to a size 10/12.

So I've lost 4 stone 10 lbs, which a year ago I couldn't have dreamed of.
I'm not longer full of bad skin, high BP, back ache and aches in general are gone, I have so much energy to exercise, I sleep like a log (although I did have insomnia on the higher dose I was in) and all in all, life is good. Autoimmune conditions have seen significant improvement too.

I went up to 7.5mg but it was really tough on me, I was losing well on 5mg so should have really stuck with that, my advice to anyone reading this is if you're on a dose that's working, don't move up, 7.5 made me so nauseous and often sick, ruined my sleep and sucked my energy.

My main side effects were nausea, insomnia due to jitters, and just generally feeling a bit bleh, but it wasn't anything I couldn't deal with. Glycerin suppositories sorted any constipation. I also had a loss of libido,I know this doesn't happen to everyone but unfortunately it did for me.

It has transformed my life, I'm now on a very low maintenance dose with the plan of coming off it completely in the next few months, and I know I can maintain this, I will not go back to being that person I was before.
I've only told my husband, sister and two close friends I'm on it, but I suspect others have guessed, or are at least suspicious.

Happy to answer any questions!

Congrats OP. I am similarly happy to have been prescribed Mounjaro. Slightly different back story, I was prescribed back in Sept for Diabetes T2 under the NHS and it’s allowed me to completely stop taking Insulin and Metformin which is brilliant and it’s put my diabetes into remission.

I've lost 4 and a half stone going from Obese to Healthy BMI and size 22 to 12/14. I’m working on getting firmly into the middle of the healthy range and it would be nice to get rid of a bit more belly. I’ve lost a total of 50 inches off bust, waist, hips, thighs and upper arm measurements, 10 inches off waist alone.

I now do 3 x gym sessions a week and am on week 6 of Couch 25 K, last Friday I ran for 20 mins continuously which would have been completely unimaginable 6 months ago.

OP would love you to answer my questions as someone on the start of their journey:

  • how do you feel now at your goal weight?
  • how are you dealing with the food noise that has now come back?
  • Are you planning on staying on mj for life or DIY when you titrate down?
  • did you have a favourite jab site? or did you experiment with jab sites?
  • How have you dealt with any comments for your weightloss or comments about using WLI (assuming you have told people)

Hi yes of course!

how do you feel now at your goal weight - I feel amazing, I am at my 'goal' but I do have some fatty parts that I'd like to go, but plan to focus more on exercise and toning which should help that!

how are you dealing with the food noise that has now come back? This actually hadn't been that hard, if I want something I have it, but I've been on such a strict eating schedule over the past year it's more of a habit now not to eat rather than to eat, make sense? I know when I need to stop. That's a very new concept after years of abusing food.

Are you planning on staying on mj for life or DIY when you titrate down No, I'm planning to come off over the next few months, I feel more emotionally equipped for this everyday, being slim is absolutely the best motivation there is, I absolutely love it!!

did you have a favourite jab site? or did you experiment with jab sites? Usually right thigh, I did alternate with my belly too, never found it made a difference tbh

How have you dealt with any comments for your weightloss or comments about using WLI (assuming you have told people) I have only told my husband and a few friends, with everyone else I've told them I'm using intermittent fasting (which I do) and that I've cut out the booze (which I have), I did feel shame about it at the start but now I don't, but I can't be bothered with the judgement either.

It's fantastic, isn't it, OP?

How tall are you?

My anniversary will be in June and I'm four stone down. I still want to lose at least another stone. Size 14 is baggy on me now and I'd like to be comfortable in a 12.

It's been absolutely life-changing for me. I wish I'd been able to have it years ago.

5ft 10! I'm positively lanky now 🤣

I also weight myself daily. I bought size 8 clothes recently after being a real Zara H&M size 8 for 6 weeks from 10 and 12 ( was 14 and lost 30 pounds). At 5mg for 6 months. At the weekend my birthday added in alcohol burgers, crisps and cake and bread. Was up four pounds after 3 days of bad. So today going running and fasting and went to yoga. Weights tomm. Running. The daily weigh has helped me understand in one day I can be up 4 pounds day to night. The alcohol is an issue if binger. I also cut out bread, and junk of course but sneaking in now again so need a reset. The daily weighing just keeps me in check
.I'd say don't lose it too fast. I have looser skin and saggy face now but I am 51

Illbefinejustbloodyfine · 13/05/2025 05:22

It's so great to read this @Mounjaroversary , especially that being slim is acting as motivation, and helps with dealing with the food noise returning . I'm kind of pinning my hopes on the same being true for me. I've lost 2 st so far, 8 weeks in, and 3 to 4 to go. Initially I thought 3 but the more I think about it the more I think 4 would be a better target, as that would take me to 11st which I know I'd look great at!

Good luck with your continued journey.

Mounjaro any one else...

Just 2nd dose , and wondering if anyone else is having these side effects, lasts a few days then seems to subside
Raised heart rate which seems to come and go throughout the day but noticable and feeling slightly dizzy woozy feeling.
. I know these are listed as side effects but wanted to see how others are getting on

@ForJoyousLimeTraybake you might be better off starting your own thread to ask about this (or indeed your wife could start her own thread...), as on this thread people might just reply to the original poster rather than your post.

Putting on a few pounds on over two weeks or so might mean that she needs to move up to the next dose. There can be fluctuations, but a few pounds seems like a lot. Is she eating more than she was? If not, then maybe it's just water retention or other things that can cause temporary weight gain.

Very normal and a few different reasons it could be

  • hormonal fluctuations
  • water retention
  • of drinking enough water or getting enough sleep
  • needs to reduce calorie allowance, the amount we need reduces as we get smaller, with a 3 stone difference her calorie needs now will be less than they were at the start. She should go to a TDEE calculator online and aim for 500 calories less than her TDEE (how many calories you need to maintain your weight as it is)

we have an active thread for people looking to lose a total of 5stone or more which she might find helpful

Our weight can go up by 5lbs without gaining any fat. As a previous poster said, this can be due to hormone change or hydration levels. It can also be due to constipation.

5 lbs is a lot though, I’d say it Is more likely some fat gain in there, maybe due to extra cals, salt etc.

id say she likely needs to move up

JacknDiane · 01/10/2025 21:08

Well done @Mounjaroversary, you really have done well.

If you look at the research, a 5lb gain isn’t unusual as a fluctuation with no fat gain. I had a 4lb gain early this week. I wasn’t happy, but reassured myself that it could not be a genuine gain. I was right, 3 days later, not only had it gone, but I’d lost a further 0.75lbs 🤷‍♀️
