Question about how long to keep a pen / expiry dates?

I'm sure I read something a pen only lasting a month in terms of the medication then 'going out of date'. I'm due to do my 4th jab on weds and may even try the golden dose the week after. However, Oushk, who I'm with, have got a discount code until 23rd so I thought about ordering my 5mg pen now to get the discount. Is that OK though if I don't actually start using it for potentially a couple of weeks?

It's fine as long as you keep.it in the fridge. The 4 weeks only starts after it's in use

I still have one in my fridge I bought before new year and it’s dated august - I was buying every couple of weeks at the start so ended up with a few but I haven’t had to buy for ages so it balanced out.

With Oushk you can set your delivery date for when you need it. I ordered today with the special offer, but set it to arrive in 3 weeks.

Oh amazing, thanks so much everyone for the replies.

The box has an expiry date on it. And you can store it in the fridge until then.
The pen should be discarded 30 days after your first dose from it.
You can safely take 5 doses from a pen within the 30 days
Doses on day 1, 8, 15, 22 and 29.

WeAllHaveWings · 18/03/2025 00:05

The Oushk code is £18 off, they have a long running £15 off so only an extra £3 off so I wouldn't worry too much about rushing to order!

You can actually use this pen for 6 weeks (and possibly longer if it's not cloudy).

The 4 weeks is just what it has been approved for over trials. This is why you see people microdosing, jabbing a day earlier etc.

(I work in the medical field and pharma companies try to push medicines to market as fast as possible, as cheaply as possible, with a one-size-fits-all all approach. Because it's in their interest to start selling it. Also, so they don't get sued because someone didn't use their brain and kept medication for 3 years or something stupid.)

I think sticking to the manufacturer instructions rather than a ‘I work in the field’ anonymous poster would be the best course of action.

Yup! Please stick to the guidelines rigidly.

(I don't think I said anything particularly special though...it's quite self-explanatory that pharma companies push drugs through approval as quickly and as cheaply as possible, this is how we get paid! Watch a few board meetings and town halls and it comes up quite a lot.)

mamabeeboo · 18/03/2025 12:11

It's the same reason why your pen locks after 5 doses, whereas you could wind back the older manufactured pens easily.

I'm on a Facebook group and I'm agog at people using theirs for months! They buy the higher dose pens and micro dose so it lasts ages. And people are agreeing! I'm sweating just thinking about it 😂

These utter idiots are going to be the reason for even tighter restrictions on this medication.

I use MJ quite sensibly and am so worried about not being able to access it in the future because of the huge misuse of it. These clowns will be the first to run to the daily mail with their sad face when someone dies because of it.

WeAllHaveWings · 31/03/2025 10:13

@MsPug this is the danger of social media and people believing everything they read.

"I had a video call with my suppliers and their advisor agreed this was ok for me" is bullshit.

No supplier will advise this, and no supplier will allow months between buying higher dose pens - it isn't worth risking their business when they need to prove they are prescribing following guidelines to the GPhC. Of course when asked which supplier allows this they won't reveal.
