Wine and MJ

Obviously it’d be a daft act of self-sabotage to drink while on MJ, but is the issue just because of the excess calories in wine or something else?

Does anyone have the odd glass or does MJ quieten that noise, too?

I've only been on mj for 6 weeks but I've drunk whilst on it. Not a great deal, a couple of glasses of wine and a few rums.
The way I see it, this is about me learning to eat and drink in moderation rather than to excess - why wouldn't you have a drink if you fancied one? X

PorkerNoMore · 17/03/2025 14:48

I’ve drunk on it. Still lost loads of weight.

FatGirlLosing · 17/03/2025 14:52

I have drunk on it several times. Hangovers are annoying though. I get one now even if I just have a couple of drinks 😫

Bibulous · 17/03/2025 15:00

I'll have a couple of glasses of wine or G&T when I go out on a Friday. I used to drink more but I get bored of it quite quickly now I'm on MJ. I weigh every day and I have noticed that alcohol makes me retain a lot of water weight for a day or two afterwards but it doesn't seem to slow down how much I'm losing overall.

Snapespeare · 17/03/2025 15:04

I have no urge for it whatsoever. I've had half a glass of wine early on that I had to pour away (September) slowly shared a bottle of wine with a friend in November and drank on Christmas day.

I was easily putting away a bottle of wine most nights.

SharpOpalNewt · 17/03/2025 15:14

I do drink alcohol on mounjaro but slightly less than before. That said I had the equivalent of a bottle of white wine at a work thing last week and still lost 1.5lbs that week.

VelociraptorsVelociRapping · 17/03/2025 16:11

There is a small increased risk of pancreatitis.

hopeishere · 17/03/2025 16:24

I drink exactly the same as I did before starting it. I have two glasses on a Friday and two on a Saturday.

Witchyandtwitchy · 17/03/2025 16:30

I drink too. Only over the weekend and less than before. I’ve lost 2st 10lb.
The way I’m living on MJ is the way I intend to continue living once off it. And I don’t intend to become teetotal.

GameOfJones · 17/03/2025 18:27

I've still enjoyed a drink on MJ and haven't changed my habits (no more than two alcoholic drinks a day and stick to Friday/Sat/Sun). However, I haven't tried having more than two drinks as I find it does go to my head more than usual.

Oblomov25 · 17/03/2025 21:35

Eh? Why is no drinking expected?

FlipFlopLot · 17/03/2025 22:54

I usually have a 125ml glass of wine on a Saturday night, sometimes 2. I might also have a Bailey's in my coffee once a week or so :)

Radiatorvalves · 17/03/2025 22:57

A male friend on MJ avoided food in pub last week but managed to sink about 5 pints! Seems to have lost quite a lot of weight but maybe not the most sensible approach!

IReallyNeedThisToWork · 18/03/2025 06:01

I was a daily drinker pre-MJ but about 6 weeks in I started to notice that I was done after a couple of glasses and then even that tailed off.

I still drink when I feel like it (occasional weekends or a couple of glasses of decent wine with a meal out but most days on holiday) but am satisfied with much less and it doesn’t seem to have affected my losses too much. I utterly love a 0% g&t!!

Fordian · 18/03/2025 13:25

Thanks, all!

I don't feel like it at all. I sometimes accept a drink to be sociable, but I rarely finish it. That said, I did go out to a place that has world-class cocktails a month or so ago and put away several of those. They were definitely worth the calories.

SpiralSister · 18/03/2025 13:58

I think it’s fine to have the occasional drink, isn’t it? You might find that your desire for it has mostly gone though. I’m really not bothered any more, but still will have a couple at the weekend in a social situation. I now seem to only enjoy expensive wine - the cheaper stuff tastes both acidic and sugary at the same time!

NCfor24 · 18/03/2025 14:01

I still enjoy a drink. But I used to drink up to a bottle of wine most days. Now it's pretty much impossible to do so. I often pour a glass but don't always finish it, though the habit and mental crutch etc remains in that I pour, my drinking is massively reduced.
Mounjaro has had a positive impact on other non food/drink related addictive behaviour too for me.
When I go out with friends I can drink more, but usually not sufficient to get beyond a little tipsy, and only if also eating. I can't just knock the drinks back anymore.

Dollydaydream100 · 18/03/2025 19:44

I was having a couple of drinks at the weekend on 2.5 but now I've moved up to 5mg I can't stomach it at all. The thought of drinking wine makes me feel sick.

lapuf · 18/03/2025 20:46

I still enjoy a couple of small glasses of wine a week, but I’ve cut right down without meaning to! I’ve become more discerning too, I can’t face cheap stuff Smile

holjam · 18/03/2025 21:10

I’m still drinking on MJ as I’m not falling into the camp of giving things up, there is no way this long term lifestyle change is going to work for me once I come off MJ otherwise. I do find though that my appetite for alcohol is much reduced, so 2-3 glasses of wine is my limit now.

That is so reassuring 👊😁

As others have said, if the goal is to retrain your mind and body into moderation, have a drink if you want one. Pre MJ, I’d drink a bottle on a Friday night and probably squeeze in some shots too. Last night I had two glasses and didn’t feel any need to finish the bottle (unheard of in my house!). I drank loads of water to compensate and I feel fine today. This is what it feels like to live a life where you can have ‘all things in moderation’. :)

FlipFlopLot · 23/05/2025 17:39

My desire for alcohol hasn't changed. I've always had one or two small glasses on a Saturday night as continue to do so. The main difference is that the wine goes to my head much quicker now I'm on mj! And hangovers are worse (yes, just 1 or 2 glasses is frequently causing me to wake up with a sore head!) I guess I haven't got a lot of food to line the stomach!

ellieinfrance · 23/05/2025 18:11

I've definitely cut down on what I was drinking - just don't really fancy it, and also a bit more aware of the calories. Find at the moment that now than a glass of wine can mean I don't sleep well that night, and feel far more fuzzy headed than pre MJ. But, I definitely wouldn't swap back!
