Hi,
I need to lose another 1.5 stone before I can be considered for IUI/IVF. I am losing weight well on Mounjaro on 5mg, but I know I need to be 2 months off it before I can start fertility treatment. Has anyone else been in a similar situation? Did you taper down and then stop? Stop past the goal to ensure if a bit of weight goes back on then you are still the right BMI? Any other considerations I haven't thought about? Am also aging so can't discount time completely! Thanks

I haven’t been in that situation but I have had IVF. What bmi do they want you to reach before starting? Also roughly what age range are we talking?

I think the thing to focus on is maintenance strategies because while doing treatment you will need to be off it and won’t want to get back out of eligible range. So I would be focusing on that alongside losing the rest, you probably already do all this so apologies if stating the obvious. But I would be thinking of meal planning and prep strategies, and of where you can get support if stress is a trigger for eating for you.

Thanks for replying. I need to have a BMI of 35. I'm 38 so the age clock is ticking. I feel quite confident I will maintain good habits but am worried about the feeling hungrier and this increasing portion sizes. I am not sure about whether tapering will help with this at all, but don't want to extend things longer than I need to in terms of ensuring there is a 2 month gap before I can start treatment.

I think I have read that tapering does help a bit with feeling hungrier. I think maybe you could strike a balance between tapering and losing a bit extra, because obviously both will add to the time a little. If you think you might be having more than one cycle of treatment it’s worth bearing in mind that many people gain a bit during treatment and so a little leeway might prevent delays before another cycle. Do you have any idea how quickly they can commence treatment once your bmi is where they want it?
