Mounjaro question for those on 15mg

Hi everyone, I’ve been taking Mounjaro since June 2024 and I have lost over 3.5 stone but I still have at least the same again to lose. It has been life changing in terms of my self confidence and my ability to do more and enjoy life again. I had relatively few side effects on low levels, just a little nausea a day or so after taking it. I’ve worked my way up to the max dose of 15mg, which I took for the first time last week but I’ve been very sick and had abdominal pain. Since being on 12.5mg which I stayed on for 4 months, I had several gastric incidents of vomiting and diarrhea, at first I thought each of these occurrences were individual - food poisoning or a gastric bug but I’m now thinking they all are connected to Mounjaro. Recovering from these incidents takes a while which has affected my weight loss. Whilst data says that the higher levels are where people lose most weight, that’s not my personal experience and if I could do it all again I would stay on the lower doses until I plateaued.

I do not want to stop taking Mounjaro but I feel I did much better on the lower levels and I now want to move back to taking less. I need to work out how to do this and at what level.

Has anyone else had a similar experience and went back to taking a lower dose? How did you find it? Has anyone stuck to a lower level and still continued to lose weight? Guidance seems to say that your body gets used to it and therefore needs the increased dose? What’s everyone else’s findings?

Really appreciate any insight or help that anyone can offer.
Thank you
Beelovely xx

Hi, no I haven't had any side effects to speak of on 15mg, or on another dose really. That's sounds a bit miserable, have you spoken to your supplier about it?. I started in September and gave gone up a level every four weeks as that's what my supplier said you were supposed to do. Before that I was on tablet Ozempic for 18 months and threw up almost daily on that it was beyond horrific. I would deffo look at decreasing dose if it were making me ill.

I did exactly that, moved up through 10mg to 12.5mg and 15mg. Didn’t feel myself at all at that point, so I just went back down. I think I did two weeks at 15mg, a week at 12.5mg and have been on 10mg ever since. I feel much better and I’m losing more weight on 10mg than I did on either of the higher doses.

Thank you both for your replies. Everyone seems to respond so differently that it seems hard to receive useful guidance from suppliers. Interesting Doggymummar that you have no side effects at all, that’s great news, your Ozempic journey sounded horrific!

Gimmemounjaro, your experience sounds exactly like mine. It’s really good to know that the change of plan has worked for you. That is what I am going to do as well. I was looking for reassurance that it could work. I normally inject on a Friday night but I was just too ill this week. It should have been my second dose of 15mg, but that just felt so wrong, so I took 10mg on Sunday evening and plan to stay at that level. So far I’m feeling fine which is a big relief. I keep detailed records and I was doing well on all levels up to 10 with nice steady weight loss, I was able to eat proper balanced meals and have meals out with friends, all of which is what I wanted. That seemed to change when I went up to 12.5mg. I was all over the place, never quite knowing how id respond to a meal and when I had a vomitting incident, weight would plummet but then over the following days increase again, then I’d be eating toast etc as I couldn’t face a proper meal. I’ve never stopped losing weight but it was much slower than before because of the erratic nature of it. As I said in my previous message, I thought the incidents were down to external factors but I think the coincidence was too great, no one else was ill. I think it was too high a level of Mj, it just took me rather a long time to work it out. Hopefully I can get back on track now. How long have you been taking flat rate 10mg?

Thanks again to you both for responding Xx

@Beelovely
I’ve been back on 10mg for 7 weeks and in that time I’ve lost a stone, which is great considering my BMI is only just above healthy. In the previous 4 weeks on 15/12.5mg I lost 3lbs. (I did 3x15 and 1x12.5.) Those doses really didn’t suit me!

Blondeshavemorefun · 18/03/2025 12:57

I’m on 15. Tbh it doesn’t effect me. I’m hardcore. Have the odd meal suppression but generally don’t feel sick ill and eat 3 meals /feel hunger

I did get suppression every now and then on 10 but rare

if being sick /poorly then you need to lower dose

Thanks again everyone. I’m fully recovered now and back losing weight. 10mg seems to suit me so I’m just going to stick with it. Hope everyone’s weight loss journeys go well Xx
