If you’ve changed from Ozempic to Mounjaro, can you chat to me please?

I’m in Ireland where Mounjaro has just been released to the market.

I started Ozempic in late 2023 and have lost a lot of weight. However, the effectiveness has worn off as supply of higher dosages is very limited and so I’ve plateaued.

My GP has now given me a prescription to move onto Mounjaro which I’m excited about and am hoping will help me kick-start my weightloss to tackle the last 2st.

I’m the first patient of my GP’s to switch and so advice on how to switch was a bit limited. Online advice generally suggests that you leave a period of a week between last Ozempic jab, and first dose of MJ. However, some suggest taking a five week break between the two.

If you’ve switched from Ozempic to Mounjaro, can you tell me your personal experience, please? How did you do it? Have you found the change “reset” your loss?

I had a two month break and started from the lowest dose on Mounjaro. Had been plateauing on Wegovy. Gained quite a lot during my break. I was a slow loser on both but did feel Mounjaro was better for suppression and did well on it for a while. I have swapped back now due to side effects. A month’s break and a smaller gain that time. A break is probably wise but careful of the food noise returning.

Thanks @BackToWegovy

Can I ask, how did you determine that a two month break was needed? My GP is brilliant and super supportive but MJ is no new here that he just hasn’t been able to get much experience of patient using it yet, so a lot of the research I’m doing is driven by what I read online and it’s confusing!

My providers said one month. It was two months because I decided to stop Wegovy and see what happened and once I decided that I should go back on something, Mounjaro had been launched and I thought I would try that instead.

I cannot personally help, but wanted to mention that the Reddit WLI boards may have more info as they as a lot bigger. r/Mounjaro r/MounjaroUK would be good starting places. Use the search function and I’m sure some previous threads will come up to help you
