1st time out tomorrow night since starting this and some alcohol will be involved. Just trying to work out if there's any side affects to watch out for

For some people it makes them want to drink less. For me it made me want to drink more!

I barely think about alcohol now. On the few occasions I’ve had a glass of wine I’ve felt like shit the next day. Not worth it for me now.

Bibulous · 06/03/2025 10:46

I get bored of drinking quite quickly now. I'll enjoy a G&T or two and then I go off the idea. If you've had a lot of appetite suppression you might want to be careful about how much you drink if for no other reason than you'll have less food in your stomach to buffer the alcohol.

Everyone will react differently depending on how they are responding to Mounjaro.

Slower gastric emptying might mean the alcohol absorption is also slowed down and you might not feel the impact of alcohol until later and if you over indulge it might hit you later and the effects prolonged.

All the usual alcohol impacts could be amplified with Mounjaro - lowering blood sugar, irritating stomach, dehydration - depends on you and your response to Mounjaro how you are impacted.

I would tread carefully if this is the first time you have had alcohol - you might be fine, or you might not!

I'm only on W3 and it was my birthday last week. I had a few drinks and a meal out with friends - I only ate about half my meal and definitely went slower with drinks than I usually would - mainly because I was worried about bad effects and feeling awful the next day. Still had about 4.5 pints though. The next day I felt OK but could definitley tell I'd had a drink and was STARVING! I managed to eat the right things, usually I'd have had loads of carbs, sweet stuff etc but managed to get by with eggs on toast, a banana etc! I've been away with work this week and have had the odd beer - only a half pint/little can at a time and felt fine.

Last time we went out, I had half a glass of wine and left the rest. No issues as such, just didn't fancy it.

Madickenxx · 06/03/2025 12:19

I've not really noticed a change tbh. I still enjoy a glass of wine with dinner and have had no reaction when I've had a bit more than that. The only thing is that I don't get on with sparking wine anymore but I think that's to do with the bubbles as I struggle with any fizzy drinks. They just make me very "gassy" and I get heartburn which I never did pre-MJ.

I’ve lost quite a lot of interest in the booze. There’s been an open bottle of wine in the fridge for 2 weeks - unheard of!

I will have a couple of glasses over the weekend, and really enjoy them. But then lose interest and go onto herbal tea. It’s miraculous really!

I found out early on that 2 glasses was fine, and 3 was definitely not 😂

CobaltRewind · 06/03/2025 17:23

I’m 😔😳 to say that I drank FAR too much for a period of 20 years, which is shocking since I still feel young in my 40’s. However MJ has totally transformed my relationship with alcohol and now, even though I am at my goal weight, I rarely drink. I don’t think about ‘wine’ during the day, I don’t reward myself with alcohol when I am happy, sad, lonely, stressed.

So, going out, I will be honest and say I do miss having a glass of wine if I happen to be driving so I haven’t totally lost my taste. However if I am able to drink I stop after one and two drinks would be the absolute most I could stomach. It definitely doesn’t taste the same.

Good luck! I would recommend MJ for so many reasons even other than for weight loss.

Thank God it’s not just me!!
