Mounjaro stopped working all of a sudden!

I've been using MJ for just over two months. The first 8 weeks I used 2.5mg dose because the suppression was really strong. But by the 8th dose it wasn't nearly as effective, so I moved up to 5mg. I have had one dose of 5mg so far (4 days ago) and the effect is nothing like my first few doses at 2.5mg were.
Has anyone else had the same thing happen and what can I do about it?
I think it's still sort of working, but all the bad habits that I'm trying to break are creeping back in. Any advice?

Keep taking the 5mg for the next 3 doses and see how you go. Logically you've got the highest amount in your system this week than you've had to date so it's not going to just stop working.

It just doesn't feel the same. Have you had something similar happen? I'm hoping it will come rushing back and I'll lose all the food noise again.

I find that hormonal fluctuations still happen - I am desperate for sugar the week before my period. Stick with it and try to make the good choices - sugar only makes you want more.

IReallyNeedThisToWork · 05/03/2025 21:30

It seems quite common as I have read about it quite a few times. Just keep rolling on and it will either pick up or you can increase in a few weeks.

Sampler · 05/03/2025 22:47

It didn’t ever replicate the first few weeks for me re suppression but I think the main thing is not to panic. Some days will be different, for me it’s not linear and it comes and goes re suppression. I’m 6 months into it and I did panic to begin with so I understand.

SilenceInside · 05/03/2025 22:52

@Supercompetitivesibling I did have fluctuations in the first few weeks, certainly in relation to the week before my period. But, it was also when I was on holiday, eating as well as I could but perhaps some things I could have avoided, I also had to move my injection day around a little due to being away and so on.

CanIGoHomeNowPlease · 06/03/2025 12:47

Ordered my second 5mg pen and then panicked as I was 'starving' and actively looking for food - I also put on 2lbs.

I then got my period and was like 'oh that's why'. I've had a good week and my suppression/inability to over eat has been back which was good. Lost the 2lbs and a bit more this week.

Glorybox2025 · 06/03/2025 12:51

It hasn't stopped working. You're still building your levels of the drug. It's totally normal for the appetite suppression to fluctuate over time, you really mustn't panic. I've had weeks where I've felt it wasn't working, but continue to lose weight steadily 8 months in. There are things that will cause your appetite to increase - alcohol, sugary/high carb food and menstruation may do this.

Tittibits · 06/03/2025 12:56

What you describe is typical. I’ve kept a diary of my 8months on MJ and have been able to see that it’s ‘stopped working’ every few weeks. It hadn’t and now I’ve lost 46lbs. Keep on with it.
Also bear in mind that it’s not a magic potion, you have to put the work in too by resisting the food noise. This is what people mean when they say it is bloody hard to use MJ.

RandomDays · 06/03/2025 13:01

Agree^. Also OP, you’ve only had one 5 mg dose. It builds up over time too. Give it a few weeks. Just be lucky you’ve had good appetite suppression so far! And remember, losing weight too fast is not healthy and it’s good to have an appetite. I think Mounjara is quite subtle at times.

Madickenxx · 06/03/2025 13:08

Like the others have said, it builds up over time. Also your body will adapt to it so you may not have the same effect.

Depending on what it is you're feeling that's no longer working, it may be that these are side effects that only occur in the beginning / as you go up the doses for some people. For example, I don't often feel hungry but I have never felt that I can't finish a meal or that I don't want to eat. The lack of hunger helps me manage my portion sizes and also cravings but they are still there and I have to use some level of will power to not overeat. I know some people can only manage small meals - that's not how the drug works for me so everyone is different.

Vegemite123 · 06/03/2025 14:04

My food noise has come back to some extent - I need to use much more willpower than in the beginning. I'm still on 5mgs, 5 months on. I'm not going to increase the dose, though, as I've been steadily loosing 0.5 - 1kg a week, still get some nausea, can't eat a large meal and suffer if I have too much fat in a meal. In any case, I'm now at a health BMI and have set my calories to maintenance for a bit - and I easily stick to my allowance now it's so much higher!

BestDIL · 06/03/2025 15:03

I felt like that with my first dose of 5mg but after the 2nd, the suppression and no food noise was back. I'm a slow loser 0.6lbs this week but I'm fine with that.

Supercompetitivesibling · 06/03/2025 16:54

Thank you everyone. I guess I just need to hang in there and keep working on breaking my bad habits. It's all about learning to moderate again, I suppose.

had my 3rd 5mg today, had really high supression with the first 5mg, but nothing since, it has taken a lot of willpower in the last 2 weeks, cant wait to go up to 7.5mg

It sort of came back, @popdepop. I'm still on 5mg and losing steadily. I needed to get used to the feeling. It isn't the same, I'm still having cravings but I'm not able to eat loads and I'm stuffed quickly. But I do still fancy junk or chocolate every now and again. I figured it is a good way of helping me learn some self control for the future when I've reached my target.

I had good suppression on 2.5g so also stayed in it for eight weeks but found the last couple not so effective. 5mg did very little so I’ve just gone up to 7.5mg which is very effective so far (week 2).
