Pens stop clicking

I think it's something I do wrong. I'm on the THIRD pen that I've had that has stopped clicking and I've had to use insulin syringes instead.

The first time a pen did it, I panicked. But now, I'm used to it. I've had other pens that have worked all the way through, but...

Is it just me?

Is it the bonus dose, or one of the four normal doses?

My last three pens wouldn't let me click beyond the 4 prescribed doses to get the bonus dose, I had to use a syringe. If you have not had all 4 then maybe your pen is faulty? If so, then try the pharmacy you bought it from.

Have you changed the needle when it does this? I have had a couple where it has ent primed and I just change the needle and it works.

Where are you getting them from though? Is it a reputable pharmacy? What are they saying about it?

bloodredfeaturewall · 05/03/2025 19:30

if it happens for the regular doses it's a defect and you should report to your pharmacy/prescriber/yellow card scheme.

It's for the regular doses.

The first time I reported it and they sent a new pen (so I of course used them both!). But now, I don't bother, because it's happened more than once and I think it's my error somehow.

Oh dear, I read that as 'Penis' not 'Pens'!!!

I don't know what I was thinking of...

(well, I do actually.... tee-hee-hee)

When does it stop clicking and what happens when it stops - does the dial turn but no noise and nothing happens when you try to inject? Presumably because the internal mechanism has broken?

SilenceInside · 05/03/2025 19:39

Are they all from the same batch? There should be a number on the cardboard box and on the pen.

Think I’m on my ninth now and have never had this happen!

Yeah, it just freezes. Won't move either way. With the first pen that did this, I tried to force it while injecting and the needle bent inside me, but did come out whole.

With the one I was using today, I marked where I was up to on the pen, to try to force it closed again so I could click it back to the same point, but it really was just frozen.

Nope, not from the same batch. I think it's me!

It's DEFINITELY me then.

I'm surprised your supplier never suggested using a new needle tbh, that's usually the issue.

SilenceInside · 05/03/2025 19:45

It's only ever happened for me when I've actually tried to break the mechanism to use the remaining liquid after doing 4 doses.

Having it happen whilst you're injecting isn't to do with clicking though, and it does seem like the needle might be blocked at that point if it won't depress halfway through. I'd change the needle at that point and then try to continue.

Mysticmaiden · 05/03/2025 21:01

Are you turning it the opposite way by accident? 5 months in I've never had a pen or n33dle break.
