I got my delivery today so just wanted to ask some questions before I start

Should you take in the morning or evening?

Empty stomach or after a meal?

When do you weigh?

How do you count days?

Is there an app people use?

Any tips or tricks?

Should you take in the morning or evening? Doesn't matter, your choice.

Empty stomach or after a meal? Doesn't matter, your choice.

When do you weigh? On the day that I inject.

How do you count days? Normally? I inject every Friday, if that's what you mean.

Is there an app people use? Many. Some provided by the company that they get their medication from, others you can download like Shotsy, DoseDiary, MyFitnessPal, Nutracheck...

Any tips or tricks? Join the March starters thread for chat with people at the same stage as you. Post questions for people with more experience on the "Continuing Mounjaro..." thread.

I am on my 4th week. I inject on a Wednesday morning before food. I weigh every Wednesday use the weightwatchers app but if I wasn't I'd use my fitness pal if you want to track calories. I have also downloaded the shotsy app to track the injections.

Should you take in the morning or evening? Totally up to you, I take in the morning so I can manage any symptoms in the day. I also find the appetite suppression starts in a few hours for me so I can benefit that day.

Empty stomach or after a meal? I’ve done both, hasn’t made any difference.

When do you weigh? Daily but that’s a personal preference. I know plenty who weigh weekly.

How do you count days? day of injection is day 1.

Is there an app people use? I use MyFitnessPal to track calories, protein and weight.

Any tips or tricks?
Use the appetite suppression to change unhealthy eating habits. Eat as clean as possible to minimise any side effects - nothing fried, too fatty/rich, too sugary. Eat lots of fresh vegetables. Eat slowly, notice when you’re full and stop. But also, don’t forget to eat, you may think it’ll help you lose more weight but it’ll wipe you out if you don’t get enough calories.
Work out how many calories you need to eat (you could try http://tdeecalculator.net ).
Try not to eat more than 500 calorie deficit or you could lose weight too quickly which could lead to low energy, muscle wastage and hair thinning.
Work out your protein requirement and try to stick to it, again to reduce muscle wastage.
Do strength training exercises - kettle bells, dumbbells, or gym weight machines, again to reduce muscle wastage.

Also, be patient. Sustainable weightloss takes time, 1-2lb a week is normal and preferable.
If the dosage isn’t helping you to lose weight, follow the prescribed treatment and go up to the next dose when the time is right. If it’s working well you can stay at that dose, you don’t have to move up. If the side effects are too strong you can go back to a lower dose, you don’t have to push through.

Thank you this has been helpful

I find it depends on your side effects.
i get very tired the day after an injection so I do mine on a Friday so I don’t have a horrible day at work! If you get an upset stomach you might want to do it on days you’re home.
you can tweak it as you go along, you don’t have to do it at exactly the same time each week (although you’d only want to tweak it by a day, don’t leave it for longer between weeks especially at the start)

dancemom · 02/03/2025 08:25

Thank you

First injection done 😳

Well done. I can't understand people planning their first dose. Mine was in my leg 15 minutes after it arrived as I couldn't wait to get started. The vast majority of people have no side effects so all the morning or night, full stomach or empty questions don't make any difference. Just find a time of day that works for you routine wise.

You have some very sound advice on this thread. Read it and remember it.

One thing I will say that I think hasn't been mentioned is that as you move up the doses you will likely find suppression is strongest on days 1-4. You may only eat 70% of the calories you think you should eat each day. Then as the drug wears off a bit you will find your appetite comes back a bit and it's totally normal. You may end up eating 130% of the calories you think you should eat those days. But over the week you are only eating the calories you need each day to lose weight. I always get my lowest weight at about day 4 each week at the end of the strong suppression. Here's a graph showing how much medication is in your body from weekly doses.

Good Luck!

I also meant to say I made sure days 5-7 with the least suppression was the weekend so I could socialise a bit more easily. I told no one apart from a couple of family members and one friend who is now also on Mounjaro about it. I just 'decided to try and get healthy and used a low carb diet'

I got very into the stats of it all with Renpho scales which cost about £20 and measure all sorts like visceral fat and this app called 'My weight' where you add a goal weight and a goal date and it tracks how much of the time has been used against how much of the weight has been lost. I have been maintaining for a couple of months now (am still working on my fat v muscle metrics) so some of the stats don't make sense any more. I lost an average of 1.3lbs a week.

  1. I would take in the evening to start with but after a while it becomes second nature and doesn't matter.
  1. Im not sure it matters, I could be wrong tho.
  1. I weigh every two weeks on the day I am due to re order, the reason i have to weigh when I re order and every two weeks to evaluate whether I need to step up in dose or not. If the scales don't go down I go up.
  1. Do I count days? I have a graph and a spreadsheet if that's what you mean, not sure.
  1. Loads of people use shotsy and nutracheck. I am old school and don't want another complication. (I easily obsese over these things).
  1. Tips. Mainly, relax and let your body get used to the medication.

Decide whether you just want to lose weight or become an athlete as exercise and ten ton of protein is not in my nature and i will fail like all the other diets I've tried.

Start as you mean to go on. Try and change your lifestyle with the help of these injections. Go and speak to someone 90 year olds, ask how many marathons they have ran? how many protein shakes they have necked? How much they bench press?
They probably just didn't sit on their arse all day and went down the allotment. (Soz got carried away).
