Have I messed up my injection? Forgot to hold for 5 seconds

Fell asleep trying to get DD to sleep earlier and I usually inject late on Friday nights. Just woke up with a start, realised the time and rushed to do the injection.

I did the injection but forgot to cound 5 seconds before taking the needle out from my stomach after I had put the whole amount in. So impressed down, made sure it got to 0 but didn't wait the 5 seconds before pulling out the needle.

Does anyone know if it will work still? I'm on a very high dose and feel like I can't afford to be without it for a week.

I've done that in the past and not seen any difference. My understanding is that as long as the majority of the injection goes in, the holding it is just a precaution.

For full disclosure, I'm not a WLI but instead I use another medication injected the same way. That is, mine is also injected into subcutaneous fat rather than intramuscular or any other kind of injection.

You should be fine! Holding the pen/needle in for five seconds is more of a precaution than a necessity to stop medication leaking out- and even if you did see a drop at the injection site, that doesn't mean the medication wouldn't work. As you said you injected the whole dose, there's no reason it shouldn't work as normal- as long as the medication is in your body where you'd typically inject it, there's not really anything to worry about.

I hope this managed to allay your fears a little! I hope it goes well :)

You are completely over thinking. There’s no need to be rushing. It doesn’t matter if you don’t inject at the same time each week and you will be fine if you didn’t wait 5 seconds.

you will be fine.

Thank you @constantcycle @Tradersinsnow @MajorCarolDanvers feeling a lot less stressed now!

Next time if this happens, just do it in the morning when you aren't sleepy and fully present. It really doesn't matter if you are a few hours over and better for a health and safety aspect to do it when you are awake to avoid potential mistakes etc.
