Can somebody please tell me how to get the bonus dose from my pens? What syringes do I need? Links welcome

I’ve got these ones: www.shdmedical.co.uk/needles/bbraun-omnican-1ml-30g-syringe-individually-blister-packed/

mounjaromarc · 21/02/2025 23:02

I like these as they are a 4mm needle and yo can swap needles half way through if you wish.

Or if it's a step up dose you can just hack the pen and not buy any needles. I have done both and they work well.

I've just bought these. Not sure how much liquid I should take out the pen though, the whole lot?

Kahless · 21/02/2025 23:10

I don't want to sound rude, but if you don't know how much a dose is then you either need to do more research or not do it.

This is a subcutaneous injection, and you should not mess around.

NigellaAwesome · 21/02/2025 23:14

A dose is 0.6mg. I have always found the bonus dose is a little more and there is still liquid left in the pen.

NoTouch · 21/02/2025 23:52

@ColourBlueColourPurple those have 12mm needles! Recommended subcutaneous needles for Mounjaro are 4mm-8mm, normally 4mm-6mm from most suppliers.

You will need to make sure you know what you are doing with 12mm!

clarkey123 · 22/02/2025 07:23

And how do I get it out? Do u put the syringe through the red bit in the pen? Or somewhere else?

0.60 ml is a full dose x

Yes through the red bit.

I just didn’t stick it the whole way in.

TheChosenTwo · 22/02/2025 08:42

I don’t do this but don’t you blunt the needle using it twice?

FunnyCrabDance · 22/02/2025 09:00

Definitely be aware of the needle length, the pen needle is 4mm i think and that gets the mounjaro where it needs to be.
So I imagine, not having done it yet, even a 8mm length needle only needs to go into your injection site halfway?

Slightly, most say they don't notice, but if it is a concern you can buy separate syringe and needles and change needle after extracting and before injecting. Think someone linked above to the separates.

See that's what I thought but my insulin needle only goes up in 10s. So there is no 0.6, only a 60. Not sure if that's the same thing.

SilenceInside · 22/02/2025 11:31

@ColourBlueColourPurple won't the packaging or the order details tell you the capacity of the syringes that you ordered? It's possible for example that it is a 1ml syringe marked from 0 to 100, so 60 on the syringe would be 0.6 of a ml.

I binned the box and there is nothing on the individual wrappers. I'm seeing my sister in law tomorrow, she's a nurse, she should know 🤞

0.6ml, not milligrams.

Surely it would make more sense and safer to buy a needle of the correct length?

Having to watch the needle pierce the skin and judge/keep it inserted half way while pushing towards it with a plunger is so unnecessary.

It’s very easy to do, find it easier to do this than using the pen.

NigellaAwesome · 22/02/2025 15:57

@hoarahloux yes, you are quite right. It's ml, not mg. Apologies, I was posting in a rush.
