Starting MJ Perimenopausal

I've always had quite good willpower when dieting and been able to lose weight. In the past 2 years since becoming perimenopausal I cannot lose even though I'm still sticking to the same calories etc. Has anyone got any success stories of being perimenopausal and MJ working for them? Thank you.

I'm peri and started MJ five weeks ago. Have lost 20lb so far and feing great. Best thing I've done for my health.

@FknOmniShambles that's brilliant! I'm hoping it's successful for me because I've given up otherwise lol.

I’m in peri and on HRT and have lost 28kg (so almost 4.5 stone) with MJ since July last year.

I’m 45 and on HRT. I started 5 weeks ago and I’ve lost just over a stone.
I’ve had no hot flushes in that period and I feel like my mind is sharper.
It’s not perfect and I’ve had some gastro side effects but it’s definitely worth it.

@HundredMilesAnHour Jeez that's impressive. I only want to lose probably around 3 stone - fingers crossed!

@Bellabluea that sounds great! I have lipodema which has got a lot worse since perimenopause - very painful. I'm hoping it helps that too.

I suspect we are the majority group oh this page! I'm mid 40s and in peri and have lost 2.5 stone since November. Best case without using it I think I'd be down 1 stone in the same time frame. For me it's proving an incredibly helpful tool so far.

hilbil21 · 13/02/2025 21:22

@PinkArt I'm finding I can't lose a thing when I used to be quite consistent. Fingers crossed this helps!

I've managed to lose about a pound a week during peri BUT have lost the same pounds over and over for the last few years, just to regain incredibly easily. I'm down to 17st 4 now and once I'm back in the 16s again I'll have broken to barrier through to some pre peri weights.

NothankyouNigel · 14/02/2025 06:27

I couldn’t get past a certain point - about 5kg on diet / willpower alone in peri. I’m now 10 kg down ( 6 of which has been in the last month since starting MJ) and at a weight I never thought I’d see again. I don’t think I was as disciplined as you pre MJ by the sounds of it! But this has definitely helped me with portion control and has curbed the urge to drink wine / overeat.

Loving this thread. My first Mounjaro is due to be delivered next week. I'm peri, have just started HRT and I've just quit smoking - so I was wondering if the odds were stacked against me.

I'm looking forward to seeing what happens!

You might - might - find the Mounjaro helps with the quitting smoking too. The research hasn't been done yet, as far as I know l, but anecdotally people have said they have less interest in smoking. Same with drinking, which has lead to further research as there was an interesting article out this week.
The same reward or cravings bit of the brain presumably is at work for all three problems.
