MOUNJARO QUESTION!

justanothermanicmonday1 · 12/02/2025 10:54

Hi all,

I have been on my Mounjaro journey since November and have successfully lost almost 2 stone by following a calorie deficit and exercising. Loved it so far.

2.5mg I had no side effects. I stayed on this for 2 months and eventually moved up to 5mg as the suppression completely wore off.

I was on 5mg since the end of December. Had no side effects until week 3. It was always 48 hours after injection day. I would have incredible nausea and Diorreah along with a gurgling stomach. No pains though.

My question is, should I move up to 7.5mg and hopes it will be better as I've heard 5mg tends to be a bit of a disaster.

Any guidance would be great and please feel free to share your own experiences.

Thanks.

If you move up it will be worse. I managed to get to 15mg before exactly what you describe. Went back to 12.5 and was the same after three weeks. It builds up in your system too. I’m now going to try 10mg.

Well done on your loss so far! Tbh, I’ve never understood the reasoning behind moving up if side effects are horrible. Why would they improve on a higher level of medication? (Disclaimer - I know they’ll be loads of stories to say this is how it worked for them but it makes no logical sense to me!!)

Each dose reaches its peak in your system in week 3 and after that your body starts to acclimatise so effects should lessen. In your situation, I would stay on 5mg but of course you are free to do whatever you choose (within safe limits of course!). I am probably a bit biased as I loved 5 and stayed on it for 20 weeks!

I never understood it either, I guess I've been watching too many videos on TikTok of other users who said 7.5mg was better. But you're right. I need to get used to the 5mg before moving up. It doesn't make any sense! I just really want this to work as it's helping me so much. I was on slimming world for years and it used to work so well. But ever since I've had the children (2 under 2) it's completely changed. I can't handle the big portions and I gain weight easily. Calorie counting/Mounjaro is the best way for me!

Yeah you're right. I need to stay put, I'll maybe see if I can get something for the nausea. But nothing helps the Diorreah. I've tried immodium and loperamide and it doesn't touch the sides! I hope 10mg is kinder to you! X

The other thing that I’ve found is that I’ve found appetite suppression not as good when I’ve had diarrhoea. Idk whether it’s the body’s way of trying to claw back nutrients lost or what but I think you want to avoid diarrhoea if you can.

I’m on 5mg and staying on it as I am just about coping with side effects (have had two pens of 5mg now). My 7.5mg pen will stay in the fridge and I’ve ordered another 5mg pen. Took advice from my pharmacist who said that’s what I should do. Can’t you contact your prescriber for advice rather than random people on TikTok?

Pyjamatimenow · 12/02/2025 11:35

What sort of things are you eating? Any alcohol? I wonder if that’s contributing. I’ve found if I take immodium before bed I’m at least not up in the night with it

justanothermanicmonday1 · 12/02/2025 11:39

@Pyjamatimenow see mines has been so strong. However I've gained 4lb which I was shocked at! I have barely ate anything?

I have. And they just send me the same copy and paste template. So frustrating. I messaged the pharmacist again asked for further guidance so I'm waiting for a response that's why I've came on here in the mean time!

No alcohol. I don't eat take aways either. But when I've had heavy carbs or something sugary it does trigger it. So I'm avoiding that now and eating little and often.

I had a similar response from my prescriber. It’s just take immodium and go down a dose.
I’ve read about digestive enzymes and started taking those with each meal. You can buy from Amazon

letshavetea · 12/02/2025 11:53

I avoid refined carbs. Stick to fruit, veg, oats, brown rice and other grains and seeds, pulses, nuts, Greek yogurt, cheese, olive oil and some chicken and fish. I avoid UPF’s.

letshavetea · 12/02/2025 11:55

@justanothermanicmonday1 I’m with Oushk. I don’t know if it depends who you’re with? They are very responsive to queries.

I'm with Asda!

Funnily enough when I was eating loads of fish I was fine. Maybe I'll switch back! Thank you.

@Pyjamatimenow I went down to 3.75 for a while and although not as severe I still had side effects. I think I'll just preserver with the 5mg!

@justanothermanicmonday1 you’re very welcome. I do find this works really well as a diet combined with lots of water to drink. I’m surprised at Asda as I know they’re meant to be expensive! I went with Oushk as they’ve got great reviews and I’ve been very pleased.

letshavetea · 12/02/2025 12:08

@justanothermanicmonday1 i also meant to say have a look at the Zoe podcasts - loads of great advice there. It’s where I get my info from.

Thank you so much! I'll check it out! I'll maybe switch providers! X

I only went up when weightloss stalled

2.5mg for 1 month, lost a stone.
5 mg lost a stone on the first pen, then half a stone each on the next 3 (1 and a half stone) then stalled on the 4th.
went up to 7.5mg, lost another half stone, reached goal (total 4 stone loss)

so 1x 2.5mg + 4x 5mg + 1x7.5mg =4 stone loss

Then stepped back down to 5mg to try and find maintenance (prescriber said it might take a while for the 7.5 dose to completely leave my system so probably best to do a couple of pens at 5mg and see how I feel midway through the second before deciding to step down to 2.5 or not).

Currently on my 5th week of maintenance at 5mg, eating more and working out more and have dropped slightly under goal (but intend to regain as my smallest clothes are a bit too roomy for my taste/age)

side effects have always been mild but intermittent, usually around dose increase but also associated with over indulgence (the one time I was repeatedly woken up by sulphur burps was due to pizza & Prosecco!)

so if you are still losing on your current dose I would suggest staying there until you stall - no point in risking worse side effects until you can’t avoid it any longer!
