Started Saturday
feeling really down hearted!
Not had my usual food at work and in the evenings of chocolate crisps and biscuits, instead I’m eating fruit, salad & meats at work and not snacking in the evenings
Today I’ve gained 1lb 😭😭
absolutely pissed off to say the least!
Last night after my tea I went to bed because I was so hungry so instead of eating I had an early night!
Woke up this morning hungry too so had some fruit and cereal and I’m still hungry!!!

@Doggymummar TDEE is your maintenance level, it's not a TDEE if you lose weight on it.

Maybe I did misunderstand, I'll do some more research I don't want to hog this ladies post.

crankytoes · 12/02/2025 17:58

Firstly there is no absolute in terms of how much energy someone burns in a day. All these calculators work on averages. 2 people of the same height weight and age and activity levels will not use exactly the same number of calories. I'm flabbergasted that anyone would still think this

Secondly OP weight fluctuates daily. Even on the injection when you are on a therapeutic dose you will weigh heavier one day than the one before sometimes. You need to watch for the downward trend. Weighing daily is not often a good idea. Weekly is better.

You may be eating way less than you were. But that won't necessarily mean you are eating less than your body is burning.

Then assuming sedentary, your tdee is 2132. So eating 1600 would have you lose 1lb a week. Eating 1100 would be 2lbs,

Thank you

I honestly don’t think I’d be able to go as low as 1100 calories, I was so hungry yesterday and I had all my 1600 cals

OP posts:
SilenceInside · 12/02/2025 18:01

@crankytoes I think everyone is well aware that these calculators are a guide, a tool to give an indication, not an accurate-to-the-calorie definitive and personalised bit of data.

That’s fine, don’t worry, you will lose an average of a pound a week, water retention makes a difference on the scales. Remember we pee out fat so drink at least 2litres a day.

as the drug kicks in, your appetite will lessen. For some it is instant, others it can take a month or two, hang on in there.

I would like to add that if you are reducing what you eat you will feel hungry at first until your body adapts to it.
Try lowering to 1400 (which is not far off what you are eating now) and sticking to it for a whole week.
You might find that the weight starts to shift then and you feel less like you are starving.. Also more motivated.

What helped me shift 2 stone.

Drink a glass of water before every meal, you will be less likely to overindulge then and water also helps burn calories and fill you up.
Have something low calorie but sweet you can sip on when you get those hunger cravings, I had tea with sugar or coffee which for me was much better than snacking on chocolate and crisps..sugar free pop may work for you.

Daisypod · 12/02/2025 19:08

I've been on Mounjaro for 10 months now. I hardly lost anything the first couple of months, or so it felt, certainly not the massive losses I've seen some people have.
I weight myself every day, first thing in the morning and it means I can notice patterns, sometimes I will loose a lot, sometimes nothing for a week, fluctuate up and down a bit (especially when pre menstrual and if I drink wine I can put on 2lbs overnight! But I've lost over 5 stone now so I don't stress the day to day fluctuations as it is showing an overall trend of going down.
You are very early in your journey so try to not get too disheartened, as the dosage goes up it will be easier.

Daisypod · 12/02/2025 19:13

Oh also I've found I was dramatically misjudging how much and how many calories I was eating before, you have to measure everything carefully and track everything. I use My fitness pal

Occitane · 12/02/2025 20:07

I think you have to be more patient. I started Wegovy in May, and didn't really lose for the first 2 or 3 months, I don't think the smaller doses really affected me. However, since May, I have lost 2 and a half stone. I'm not losing weight quickly, but I'm happy as long as it is still coming off.

Finallydoingit24 · 12/02/2025 20:23

For your weight 1600 is fine and you will lose weight on that and you could probably eat more and still lose. Don’t be too tempted to go lower because then there is nowhere to go if your weight loss stalls and your body will become super efficient to try to adjust to that level of calories. 266 lb is heavy - about 18 stone or so I think so you can eat quite a bit and still lose. Just give it some time.

Saggyknickers · 12/02/2025 22:05

If you get this upset after not having lost anything in four days your mounjaro journey is going to be very stressful and unenjoyable.

It isn't a magic serum that makes the weight fall away, you have to be in a calorie deficit and do some exercise as you would on a normal diet. The MJ should just make it easier to stay within your calorie alllowance.

I suggest you don't weigh until you've been on it for two weeks and just go live your life and stop obsessing.

Saggyknickers · 12/02/2025 22:11

Doggymummar · 12/02/2025 14:43

Hi, I know it's frustrating, buts it's very early days. You need to eat at a calorie deficit to your TDEE, not just less than before. There are loads of websites you can use to calculate this. Mine is 1293 cals per day. To lose a pound you need to eat 3500 calories less than this a week. That's 500 cals per day less. For me that's 793 cals. I can increase this by being more active but I rarely do. I follow Fast 800 take a good multivitamin and prioritise protein. I'm not suggesting you do this, just saying what I have to do. Apologies if you know all this. Best of luck

Doggymummar

I'm pretty sure someone has told you this before - but there is NO WAY your cutting tdee is 793 calories unless you are about three foot tall? (In which case I apologise and as you were).

Give me your age/weight/height/ethnicity and il do it properly for you. Eating 793 calories a day is going to make you extremely ill.

Saggyknickers · 12/02/2025 22:15

Sorry Doggmummar just seen you have provided your stats - your tdee is 1719 meaning you should be eating around 1219 per day to lose weight (a 500 cal per day cut).

NippyNinjaCrab · 13/02/2025 08:10

You've started Sat and weighed day 4, give your body a break. It's not a fat melter. How long did it take for you to put on weight? A long time. Be prepared for a long hard journey @BrendaSmall unless you realistically lower your expectations. Make sure you are eating enough fat too like full fat yoghurt to fill you up and drink plenty of water. Good luck.

Unfortunately I’ve just got some results back from a intolerance test that I’ve recently done and the list of foods I’ve got an intolerance to is long, including wheat, cows milk, lactose, a lot of fish, beef, lamb and some fruit 😢 I’ve now got to change what I eat completely,

I’m definitely not going to be going below my calories as I’d be even more hungrier than what I am already
I’ve just had some test results back from an intolerance test I had done, I’ve got a long list of things I’ve got to cut out so my way of eating is going to be changing completely now not only because of the MJ.

Good luck with it. You might find that if you cut out foods you’re intolerant to then your body will release water weight. I considered doing one of those tests for intolerances but I figured I’d rather just go by how I feel. My BIL did one and it told him to cut out everything basically which he has done, he looks awful and so scrawny but claims to be feeling “great”. All he can eat is white fish and green veg - I wouldn’t be able to do that.

BackToWegovy · 13/02/2025 11:56

You have had lots of different advice and some harsh comments here. It is frustrating when you don’t lose much at the beginning when so many people seem to lose 8lb in the first week but you are not alone. Not everyone responds much to the 2.5mg dose. Once your dose is higher you won’t feel so hungry and you won’t be able to eat as much.

I would say relax about calories - get your head around your exclusions and try to eat unprocessed, healthy food. Patiently go up the doses and the weight loss will follow.

@NippyNinjaCrab gives good advice. I've lost around 50 lbs in just under 7 months. Some weeks I lose 1 lb, other weeks nothing. But overall MJ is working really well for me if I think about it long-term

Jenasaurus · 13/02/2025 12:01

Please don't lose heart on this. I was you in the first month on 2.5mg very slow start and could still feel hunger, but I am now 2 stone down and no longer have food noise and eat sensible until full, I am losing 1-2 pounds a week consistently now and on 7,5mg, which I have been on for 3 months and is the dose with no side effects and still works.

Don't give up, some people it takes a couple of weeks to kick in and remember this is just a starter dose to get you used to it.

JRorBobby · 13/02/2025 12:34

No idea about mjaro jabs but wanted to say well done turning your diet upside down and around. The loss will come, and your taste buds will revive too which I think helps enormously - the healthy food can genuinely be something to enjoy. Anyway, welll done you.

Choux · 13/02/2025 12:54

I honestly don’t think I’d be able to go as low as 1100 calories, I was so hungry yesterday and I had all my 1600 cals

Right now your stomach is stretched because of the volume of food you are used to eating. So even on 1600 calories you feel a lot of hunger. As the weeks go on your stomach will shrink and you will find it easier to eat less. Then you can cut calories further and the weight loss will speed up.

I get how keen you are to see results but it really is a marathon not a sprint and for every person who loses 10lbs in week 1 there is someone who needs to get to 7.5mg to see consistent losses. You are probably somewhere in between those two examples so try to be patient and keep making good food and exercise choices.

WorriedRelative · 13/02/2025 13:02

Christ I can gain more than 1lb by moving my scales 6inches to the left when I weigh.

You really need to chill out a bit. The starting dose isn't expected to result in weight loss, it is to avoid side effects. You have had good advice about calorie counting. Focus on protein to keep you feeling full. Drink loads of water, much more than usual, absolutely loads.

Your weight will come down but you need to give it time and learn to accept fluctuations. You will have gains, stalls and losses, if you want to succeed you need to be able to ride them out.
