Hi, I know I should google this but I'm very tired and just wondering if anyone can enlighten me - how much protein should I aim to consume while losing weight?

FYI I've been on mounjaro since December but feel I should keep more of an eye on this.

It depends on your body weight and exercise levels. Give a macro calculator a go. I use Nutracheck

IReallyNeedThisToWork · 09/02/2025 17:55

It varies depending on what you read but generally between 0.8g and 1.2g per kg of body weight. Or, 1g per kg of goal weight. Nothing if not confusing!

BigTightropeWalker · 09/02/2025 17:56

Thank you @Doggymummar I'll try that! 🙏😊

Between 0.8 to 1g per kg body weight. If exercising then more

BigTightropeWalker · 09/02/2025 18:04

So I'm 92kg, so around 92g of protein per day? Sorry, I'm not usually so slow witted, I'm just very tired.😂

Yes but anything from 70g you will probably be fine for preventing muscle loss

BigTightropeWalker · 09/02/2025 18:28

Thanks @Mysticmaiden2024
92g (even 70g) per day seems a lot! But I've never tracked my protein consumption before so maybe it's not that much.

I find it hard to eat naturally, I have to be really mindful. I tend to eat a protein yoghurt to get 25g, a hefty splodge of cottage cheese in soup, stews etc and the rest comes from meals.

jeanclaude · 09/02/2025 19:13

I don't think many of us hit it without being mindful.

My target is 114g per day and I made it yesterday but had a chicken wrap for lunch and chicken with rice for dinner and a clear whey protein drink in the day.

Today I'm 20g short and will have a yoghurt to get me there.

BigTightropeWalker · 09/02/2025 21:07

Thanks @Doggymummar and @jeanclaude - I like yogurt so will up my consumption of that. Yes I'll clearly have to be much more mindful about it!

23 G protein in 100g of pistachio nuts, 😋

StayingHealthy · 09/02/2025 21:43

Aiming for 90g and hitting 70g is great.

My biggest problem is that trying to actually eat that much is a big challenge for me, especially when also trying to stick to less calories. I never really get enough protein! But good to try I suppose! and I am at least mindful of it now and aim to do my best!

Doggymummar · 09/02/2025 21:43

Great if you are not dieting, that's over 600 calories, more than half a days intake. That's re the pistachios

shrinkingthiswinter · 11/02/2025 22:09

I weigh the same as you and I’m trying to eat a good 100g, though I don’t calculate it properly. I just guesstimate and try to prioritize protein. Huel black powder for lunch, some protein powder in my morning coffee, boiled eggs, chicken, seeds, nuts.

I’m also at the gym a lot and the dog is getting longer walks. My scales reckon I’ve managed to lose 12.2kg of almost pure fat - my muscle mass has gone down by only about half a kilo, if that. So I’ll carry on like this, despite the protein sceptics. A lot of protein and a lot of strength training plus yoga. Really don’t want to lose muscle just before the menopause.

shrinkingthiswinter · 11/02/2025 22:13

Tho DH did ask yesterday when I’ll be stopping eating weird stuff. Tried to break it to him gently but the answer is never. And actually boiled eggs and raw carrots for lunch isn’t weird.

Prawns, crab, Tuna, babybels, venison steaks, chicken, gammon steaks, cottage cheese, 0%greek yoghurt added to things, eggs, turkey rashers, bacon medallions, peas

All good low cal protein
