Syringe quantity help please

Sarah84848484 · 09/02/2025 10:30

I have been using 5mg for 3 months and want to drop back down to 2.5mg, or possibly 2.

I have these syringes (not the usual 1ml people seem to buy, they are for 0.5ml). Can someone help with what amount I need to get 2/2.5 from a 5mg pen please.

Assuming it’s not as simple as the 20 and 25 unit marker??

They don't look individually sealed and sterile?

Gettingslimmer · 09/02/2025 11:57

Are they human grade from a medical supplier?

FromHere · 09/02/2025 12:07

Where are those from? They don't look sterile?

Time4changeagain · 09/02/2025 13:00

A full dose is 0.6ml so half a dose would be 0.3ml. If it’s a 0.5ml syringe it will be to the 30 mark for a 2.5mg dose from a 5mg pen.

They're from amazon, the product code is classic amazon. I wouldn't buy them from amazon but a lot of people do for some reason

Ah for animals then,

Iwannabehealhty · 09/02/2025 13:21

The dosing is for insulin, I recommend you don't use these. 2.5mg or 5mg in mls is different in a pre filled pen to units in the syringe.

I use something similar to that - same colour but 1ml - but they're individually sealed, sterile and medical grade insuline syringes, hypodermic needles. Got them from Amazon before the pharmacy links started appearing on this board. You just need to know what you're looking for but I'd advise those who don't to simply use a pharmacy to get theirs to be safe.

To answer your question, you can get extract 24 units (0.24ml) with the syringe to get 2mg from your 5mg pen or 30 units (0.3ml) to get 2.5mg.

WeAllHaveWings · 09/02/2025 14:22

@YuletideGrams care to share what to "look for" on amazon and a link to safe medical grade syringes on there? The regulations on selling syringes with needles are very tight.

Amazon do not sell syringes, they do not allow 3rd party sellers to sell syringes for medical use. So there is no guarantee what you buy is medical grade. Even if the pictures or packaging try to show otherwise you simply do not know what you are getting. Most of the 3rd party suppliers selling these syringes on Amazon are Chinese companies (again a huge red flag).

Sorry to hijack your thread OP! I have the same question.

I'm looking at these -
https://ukmedi.co.uk/products/1ml-05-inch-29g-pink-unisharp-syringe-and-needle-u100-unisharp-uf29p-ukmedi-co-uk

Would they be ok? Drawing the liquid up to the sixth notch for 0.6ml? It looks like a legit site for actual human medical supplies...

Only thing is they are 12mm length needle and 29G is a bit thicker. Best ones to look for are 32G as it's a finer needle and the 8mm or if you get a 12mm needle inject halfway so you are injecting into fat not muscle. I got cheap ones from SHD medical 32G 12mm for 10 only £5.24 delivered and inject half in. You can try the hard twist and use the standard needles provided, worked for 2/3 on my oens

Best to go for the ones that are 32g and at most 8mm needles. There's always a link to one on this board. You can do a search for 'insulin syringe' on here and you'll find one.

Feb2025start · 09/02/2025 15:56

Thanks guys! I'll get the 32g 8mm ones as suggested.

QueenOfHiraeth · 09/02/2025 17:28

I got mine from Express Chemist online, registered pharmacy and cheaper than those linked

Lola3034 · 10/02/2025 10:15

This is what I got from independent pharmacy. They aren't individually wrapped either.

The brand is a well known medical syringe supplier, but you also need to take into account they are normally sold to clinics who use a lot of syringes, or diabetics who inject several times a day, not your typical Mounjaro user who perhaps uses one every 5 weeks for a bonus dose. I have no idea if those will remain sterile until the last one is used in 10 x 5 weeks.

I personally would only use individually sealed sterile syringes because I have no idea how long they stay sterile once a pack like that is opened.

WeAllHaveWings · 11/02/2025 17:50

@Lola3034 My curiosity got the better of me for your multipack of syringes and I investigated further. For that brand BD Microfine and style of syringe, Embecta (formally part of BD) say the sterility of the self-contained syringe interior is for up to 5 years (expiry on packaging) as long as the caps on the needle and plunger have not been removed. This was demonstrated by microbial package integrity testing according to standard EN ISO 11607 “Packaging for terminally sterilized medical devices”.

Apologies if I caused any worries, the packaging seemed strange to me but the syringes from BD/Embecta are safe.

Would you use the lower dose more than one a week, and if so do you then throw away the remaining / what’s left when you reach 30 days after opening/starting ?

0.24ml is 2mg
0.3ml is 2.5mg
