Very anxious about starting!

I've bought my first one, ordered today 😱
I'm really anxious about the side effects, also us it possible to half each dose, instead of having the full 2.5, can I have half the dose?
How much has everyone lost in their first month?
I managed to find a company that sells it without having to go through my surgery, yayyyyy, nosey neighbour won't know and won't gossip to the other neighbours!!

I would follow the standard dosing schedule to begin with, you don't know how you will react to it, so I wouldn't worry about half doses or anything like that just yet.

Try not to compare your progress with other people. Weight loss varies hugely. Some people don't get any weight loss, or only a small amount in the first month, and need to move to higher doses to get consistent weight loss. The benefit of Mounjaro (assuming it's Mounjaro you've been prescribed as you mention the 2.5mg starting dose) is that it enables you to stay in a calorie deficit for a long time and be consistent with losing weight. It's a process that takes months not weeks.

Side effects, if you get any, are usually mild and manageable. People tend to only post when they are experiencing issues, so what you see on here is not a balanced view of the number of people who get unpleasant side effects. You have to remember for each person posting about a difficult side effect there are hundreds who have no side effects, or minimal side effects like a bit of burping.

The first dose is very low to get your body used to it

The worst that can happen? feel a bit unwell for 5 days and don't take the next dose.

The best? like me you can lose a stone in a month!!

Nothing ventured nothing gained!

No advice, sorry but I’m so nervous about the side effects - mainly after reading about people having to dash to the loo without warning. I can’t run that risk when I take my kids to school and back (it’s a long walk! 🙈) My first one is arriving today but I’m thinking of putting it off until half term so at least I’ll be at home and can see how bad I get.

I’ve been considering it for a while, a lady at work uses it and the weight is literally falling from her, every week you can notice it, one thing holding me back is the worry of side effects!
I go to the toilet very frequently now especially if I eat something that doesn’t agree with me!
is it a case of we only hear about the bad things never the good things and there’s more success stories than failures?

Just in terms of going to the toilet (sorry tmi) I regularly went 2-3 times a day. Every day.
Since starting mounjaro, I've been going once a day. Normal stools. No dodgy tummy or anything. I'm about to start week 6 tomorrow.
I'm pretty sure people with stomach upsets are in the minority.

Cantbesure · 05/02/2025 07:52

I'd start with the 2.5mg and it half a dose. It's a low dose to get your body used to the medication. The only side effect I've had is constipation.

Totally get your anxiety. You can have half a dose but I think most people don’t respond to that so you might just want to try the full one and people on here will tell you not to microdose.
My personal journey is that I am trying microdosing for various reasons but I am not at all recommending this for you. i did half a dose exactly two weeks ago, then a three quarter one one week ago. I have lost 12 pounds in the two weeks (weighed for first time this morning). I was 87.8 kilos, I am now 82.1 kilos. I have dropped two BMI points and am no longer obese. I am astounded. People on the threads told me it would likely be placebo if I lost anything but I don’t care even if it is - I have NEVER even on keto lost that much. Anyway it’s for you to decide this and bear in mind that lots of people don’t even react to a 2.5mg dose so there is no right or wrong answer.

I don’t really get much appetite suppression on my small dose so I do get hungry. The difference is that I am now able to control it and am fine with being hungry for a bit until the next meal. That wasn’t possible before - I’d binge without fail. I have been eating 1600 calories a day since I started. I am thinking of trying to get a few more in as I don’t want to lose at a really rapid pace. I suspect my body was hanging on to water and was inflamed, hence the big drop initially.
If you want that effect where you don’t feel hunger and forget to eat you’d likely need a higher dose.

Yes that’s probably true, those who don’t suffer so bad just don’t post about it online, supposedly the majority of people don’t have many side effects at all. Fingers crossed, and good luck!
