Hair loss with mounjaro?

I’d like to try this. But I’m worried about hair loss, is this likely?

With any diet yes

SilenceInside · 04/02/2025 21:15

It's as likely as with any other weight loss programme, it's the weight loss that triggers it not the medication itself. It's called Telogen Effluvium if you want to look it up. Losing weight at a steady and consistent rate may reduce the risk of it happening, along with taking multivitamins.

If it happens, it usually resolves itself within 3 to 6 months. I had a period of hair loss which started about 4 months ago, and is now resolved. I have lots of new hair growth and the shedding has stopped.

3wDavid · 04/02/2025 21:15

Yes. Very.

And not from the Mounjaro but from the weight loss itself.

I’d suggest reading up on it before you take the plunge, so you can make an informed decision because there could be side effects, some far more serious ør uncomfortable than the hair loss.

Unfortunately it's a thing. I've had it every time I've lost a fair amount of weight. But the hair does grow back every time. One thing if mention tho, this time on MJ I've lost the most weight and my hair has been falling out for longer. Welp 😢

tiptopandticketyboo · 04/02/2025 21:28

@SilenceInside I’m really struggling with this. Took a photo from above today and was shocked. I’m short so everyone but me sees the top of my head.

did you take any supplements? I was just researching but getting a bit overwhelmed. I don’t take anything right now but have a good clean diet with only proper food.

So yes OP it does happen although not to everyone or there would be many more posts.

SilenceInside · 04/02/2025 21:32

I've always taken a multivitamin, so that didn't prevent the hair loss or I suppose help with stopping it.

I know lots of people enthuse about collagen, but it's an animal product and I'm vegetarian. I suppose if I had taken it over the last few months I could think that it was the reason for the hair loss resolving! But it was just something that happened and then got better.

Thanks. I guess I have to wait to see. One step forward and one back. Love seeing my body come back, not pleased about my newly aging face and now my best feature is falling out!

Sorry for the hijack OP. FWIW I feel so much better and fitter in general that I’m not despairing too much.

I’ve lost a lot of hair, it’s quite noticeable now. I’ve been on Mounjaro side last June and have lost over 4 stone and I’m now normal BMI. I’m trying to eat more to maintain my current weight and I’m taking hair vitamins and using a serum but have yet to see much regrowth 😥

wite · 05/02/2025 13:11

Unfortunately yes, I've lost a lot of hair. It's the only side effect I've had really but it's noticeable.

I'm at target now so have just stopped the injections and I'm planing on a big chop and that it grows back thicker.

I've had alllllll the supplements too. Didn't stop it

Springsunflower · 05/02/2025 13:34

I've lost 3 and a half stone on monjroro
The hair loss is unbelievable
And annoying for the family,no matter what I do , someone finds a long blond hair in their food
My clothes and my back especially are caked in hair
I'm actually thinking of having a short bob to limit the loss

TriangleLight · 05/02/2025 15:56

Thanks @3wDavid I was reading up on all the potential side effects, hence finding out about hair loss. I’m in my fifties and love my hair so it’s a huge thing for me.

Its never happened before when I’ve lost weight, so I didn’t realise it was the actual weight loss that caused it, so that’s interesting.
