New to Mounjaro - tips please

Hello Everyone ☺️

I'm starting Mounjaro this week and just looking for any tips or advice to feeling healthy and keeping those side effects to a minimum.

Im currently 5ft 2 and weight 16st 7. So have a bmi of 40. These numbers terrify me as I write them but today is a fresh start and no point burying my head in the sand anymore.

I now have a calorie controlled diet, aim to walk everyday with a goal in mind, and get swimming a few times a week. I've also been told loads of water helps.

Any thoughts, tips or advice would be greatly appreciated .

Make sure you get lots of fibre in your diet as your gut processes really slow down. Smaller portions are necessary. I have to be cautious with too many carbs as I fill up so fast so try and eat my protein and veg first to make sure I've got those in.

Remember you pee fat out, so aim for 2 litres of water a day min.

make sure you eat your protein, aim for 1g per kg of body weight, it helps ensures you maintain muscle , which is critical to help avoid regain, burn fat, and for stability

stay within a calorie deficiit

eat clean, veg, fruits, salads, lean proteins.

good luck!

My tip is to read both paper leaflets that come with the injection pen - the instructions for use, and the patient information leaflet. Most questions you might have will be answered via the content in those.

Also, don't get dispirited if you don't get an immediate reaction to the first dose, or if you don't start losing weight in the first week. It's a long process, some people need the higher doses for it to be effective - everyone's journey is different.

Then, I would join the February 2025 starters thread to chat with people who are also just starting. There is also a Continuing Mounjaro... Part 24 thread which is a long running thread for anyone taking Mounjaro. It's useful to post questions on there for people who are further ahead in the process, if you need to.

There's also a YouTube video to watch on the injection process.

Who are you getting your Wlm from? There will be support and answers to your questions there. Ask them and there’s probably a Facebook group to back it up

I’m 6.5 months in from a start weight of almost 16st and have lost about 4 stone.

do your research and take things steady while you’re getting used to the medication but this is a marathon not a sprint.

there may be hurdles and bumps along the way, but keep in mind that ANY loss is a start and is more than you’d achieve without the medication

think about your goal and keep going.

water water water. Aim for 3l a day - work up to it - and don’t eat crap/fatty foods or you’ll really suffer

Stock up on healthy foods. I love some fruit and nut muesli, a poke bowl or salad and prawns/chicken, green beans and asparagus, stir fries... I'm also a complete convert to healthy meal boxes to make sure I'm getting lots of variety. Drink lots of water and invest in an electric blanket to stay warm. For some reason it makes me freezing!

I also got smart scales that track my body health and progress on an app to keep me motivated. They track the calories I need as they reduce with weight
