Hi. I took my pen on holiday and just injected on my usual days.
I don't drink much anyway, so that wasn't an issue for me.

MajorCarolDanvers · 27/01/2025 23:04

Stopping it for a few weeks means you arent really committed to making the changes you need to make long term.

Haleybee822 · 27/01/2025 23:09

It’s a girls weekend and will involve drinking. I am not a big drinker but will be making an exception, I had two drinks a few weeks ago and was up all night sick and stomach cramps unsure if it was the spirit or diet drink that has caused the issues. Also worried about going up to 5mg due to side effects how did you find it?

OP posts:
SchoolDilemma17 · 27/01/2025 23:10

Don’t stop, big mistake.

Haleybee822 · 27/01/2025 23:11

Majorcaroldanvers the holiday has been booked for some time way before I started doesn’t mean I am not willing to commit but I don’t want to be ill abroad due to having a few drinks.

OP posts:
SilenceInside · 27/01/2025 23:13

I just continued taking it through my holiday. At some point you have to get used to continuing your life whilst also taking this medication. I wouldn't value a girls weekend above medication that you take to improve your health.

TheBroonOneAndTheWhiteOne · 27/01/2025 23:25

Can't you just not drink?

TheBroonOneAndTheWhiteOne · 27/01/2025 23:27

Going up to 5mg was fine for me.
I didn't have many side-effects anyway.
I'm on 15mg now. I've lost 6st 9lb.

Haleybee822 · 27/01/2025 23:29

@TheBroonOneAndTheWhiteOne its a hen do yes i could go and not drink but i want to have a drink hence why i am wondering if others have taken a break and restarted. Like I say it’s been booked for a long time before I decided to start the injections.

OP posts:
Haleybee822 · 27/01/2025 23:31

@TheBroonOneAndTheWhiteOne that’s a great loss well done, I am only four weeks in and down a stone it had been good just a lot of sore stomaches and that’s with me clean eating.

OP posts:
healthybychristmas · 27/01/2025 23:36

I've been on it for a few months now and I can't drink on it. I also can't drink fizzy drinks so I think the combination of spirits and something fizzy is what's making you feel ill.

If you are determined to stop then I would do so pretty quickly so that you feel back to normal in time for your holiday.

Why didn't you wait till after the hen do before starting the MJ?

It's obviously up to you, but if you don't take it while you're away, don't forget you'll have to stop taking it a week before you go, or it'll still be in your system when you go on your holiday.

So that would be three weeks without it. You'll be back where you started. You'll gain weight while you're on holiday, if you're drinking alcohol and not having the suppression of the MJ into the bargain.

Haleybee822 · 27/01/2025 23:52

@TheBroonOneAndTheWhiteOne I didn’t know alcohol would be an issue. Some people can drink on it and it causes no issues if I had known that I would have waited.

Stick on 2.5 until after the holiday.

With respect, as others have said, if "having a drink" is so important you're not committed to changing.

If you were committed you'd continue with your treatment and just drink less, because you'll naturally have less desire to drink if you continue. In reality you're talking about actively encouraging yourself to want to drink rather than going with the suppression you'd have from keeping going with it.

Queenofthejabs · 28/01/2025 08:17

Op, why don’t you do a reduced dose, say 1.25 for the weekend? I can drink fine on it, what I can’t do is eat any crappy foods with it though, thay will make me ill.

but I’d not stop no, I’d carry on, but if you wish to drink more than you want the drugs, I’d just reduce the dose.

AnnaQuayInTheUk · 28/01/2025 08:28

I'm doing exactly as you OP. I started taking MJ in December and planned to carry on taking it on holiday. However I didn't realise that I need to keep it below 30C and it's more than that where we are. We are travelling around so don't always have access to a fridge

So I am skipping two weeks and won't inject again until I get back to the UK. Im going to restart on 2.5.

However, if I could have kept on taking it I would have. I wouldn't stop just because of a holiday. There will always be reasons not to if you look for them.

You can buy travel fridges for medication, tiny small things.

KentishMama · 28/01/2025 08:59

I agree with others - stopping the medication to enable drinking shows that you are (a) not fully committed to making the changes that you need to make for the rest of your life, and (b) you didn't do your research prior to starting GLP1. This isn't a short term medication that you can mess about with. It's a long term commitment.

I'm sure that your friends would be supportive if you explained?

I’m not sure I agree with these comments and find them harsh and judgey.

shes going on a boozy girls weekend. The medication makes her sick if she drinks. It will be miserable sitting there sober. And the changes for life do not mean she needs to go teetotal.

personally I’d reduce the dose, but don’t think it’s ok to be judgey like this. She can be fully committed to making the changes but deciding that means being sober and not drinking is too much.

I know that what I said is judgemental, but this is her health. Either it's her top priority to get healthy - or it is her top priority to go on a boozy girl's weekend. You can't have it both ways.

Besides, the half life of MJ is 5 days, and it takes about 30 days for there to be no medication left in your system. One skipped dose may not reduce the level sufficiently to prevent alcohol induced side effects, and it's impossible to predict at what specific concentration the alcohol side effects might stop.

Cmon now. Making it her top priority doesn’t mean she can’t take time off or reduce a dose, this is a marathon not a sprint. She doesn’t need to sit there sober for a weekend simply as the drug makes her sick if she drinks, so that she can prove it’s her top prioroty

if anything she should focus on a long term sustainable plan. She’s still got to enjoy her life,

I simply disagree with this evangelical judgement.

AnnaQuayInTheUk · 28/01/2025 10:49

@Queenofthejabs I didn't know about travel fridges. A bit late now, and I suspect that wouldn't be a solution as we don't always have access to electricity here, but if I go away somewhere hot again I'll bear it in mind.

TheBroonOneAndTheWhiteOne · 28/01/2025 10:52

Why?

Greyrockin · 28/01/2025 11:05

Also worried about going up to 5mg due to side effects how did you find it?

OP, you don't have to increase doses every 4 weeks. I stuck to 2.5 for 3 months as it worked for me and I didn't want side effects to get worse ( nausea, constipation and tiredness) I slowly moved up to 5mg and stuck there for another 3 months. I moved to 7.5 recently and found it too much as some days I could barely eat, so I've gone back to 5mg.

Can't help you re: a boozy holiday as I don't drink much and have drank even less on MJ, it does kill alcohol cravings for lots of people. I would probably take half a dose for the hen do (30 clicks is half a dose).
