If I hear this again my head's going to pop off! Buuuut, here's what I say, especially if it's a man questioning me

'Viagra for ED which was originally for high BP & heart conditions!' OOOF, that'll do it! ;)

Other meds used for other than their original purpose includes:
Antihistamines (e.g., Diphenhydramine, Cetirizine)

  • Original use: Allergies
  • New use: Sleep aids (due to their sedative properties)
Minoxidil
  • Original use: Treating high blood pressure
  • New use: Hair growth treatment (for baldness or thinning hair)
Propranolol
  • Original use: High blood pressure and heart conditions
  • New use: Treating anxiety (particularly performance anxiety)
Clomid (Clomiphene)
  • Original use: Treating infertility in women by stimulating ovulation
  • New use: Enhancing male fertility (used off-label for men with low sperm count)
(There are many many others!)

SSRIs were originally developed for the treatment of TB

I do love how the diabetes argument is often made alongside the argument that we don't have long term safety data on the dug.

Ehh you mean the 30 years of data on the clinical uses of this class of drug.

Not a medication but Corn Flakes were invented to prevent masturbation!

It's fair to say that for around 6 months in 2022 there was a shortage of semaglutide that affected diabetics when people started using ozempic for weight loss. However once production was scaled up and new drugs approved for use the shortage was solved. Diabetics haven't had a problem getting ozempic for ages!
