Hi everyone,

My mom has just been prescribed her first pen. She’s struggled with weight most of her adult life and also has T2 diabetes, high bp etc so it’s really important we try and get the weight off.

Sooo have you guys got any tips or info that would help this first month go smoother? We’ve done some research but would be great to hear some first hand experience.

Thanks!

I would strongly suggest reading both leaflets that come in the box with the pen. One is the instructions on how to inject with the pen. The other is the patient information leaflet about the medication itself. Read the leaflets again first if you have a question about how to inject or about the medication, you'll likely find the answer there.

You'd be surprised how many questions there are on here from people who don't seem to have any understanding about the pen or the medication, who can't have read or retained the info in the leaflets.

Has the medication been prescribed by the NHS for the diabetes, or is it a private prescription for weight loss?

We will definitely read all the literature that accompanies then pen :-) I am a pharmacist by profession so that’s a bonus. It’s prescribed privately due to the weight management programme taking so long.

Good point! I assumed it would be Mounjaro. It it, or is it Wegovy? Although, the advice given so far would apply in both cases.

Get into doing regular resistance exercise, strength machines at the gym or hand weights. The injections cause a decrease in muscle mass as well as fat, but building muscle by resistance training protects or improves muscle mass.
