Anyone had a terrible week one on mounjaro but week 2 been OK?

I took my first 2.5mg of mounjaro on Monday morning, started feeling ropey that night.
Tuesday was utterly horrendous, sickness and diarrhoea none stop. Couldn't even keep water down. Wednesday I felt better, couldn't eat a lot but nothing too major until night, when I got a terrible headache and nausea. Also had bad stomach pains. Got up this morning and had sickness & diarrhoea.
Starting to feel better again now.

Wondering if anyone had a really bad start but then was OK by week 2? Currently terrified of the thought of taking another dose on Monday, but also devastated to have to give up. 😔

I had stomach pains and indigestion the first week.

I injected in my stomach the first injection, and then I read on here that there might be fewer side effects by injecting in the thigh.

I have done the last three jabs in my thighs and have not had side effects, barring one dose of constipation, which was partly my fault as I had not drunk enough water.

PinkArt · 16/01/2025 19:07

I was shitting water in my first week. Second week was much better and I've had very few side effects since.
Your body is just getting used to the new medication at the moment, give it time to settle.

housemaus · 16/01/2025 19:16

I had side effects in the first week - racing, awful anxiety attacks in evening and nausea and a vague feeling that something wasn't quite right in my stomach - and nothing since, at end of 2nd week today. So hopefully it'll die down for you - I injected in my thighs, if that helps!

QueenBarbs · 16/01/2025 20:38

Good to know that side effects have got better second week for others. May attempt it again in the thigh but will see how the rest of this week goes first. 😬

What are you eating op, that can be a major cause, you need to eat clean, low fat, low carb, low sugar limited spices.

QueenBarbs · 16/01/2025 22:10

I've been eating very plain food at an attempt to keep it down. Most the days I haven't even kept water down, so not been able to even attempt to eat. So it's definitely not what I'm eating causing the issue. I know people also say you need to make sure you eat, but the vomiting has been so bad that eating just isn't possible.

Oh gosh sounds awful.
I'm on week 3.
1st not great had nausea day 2 and stomach cramps day 3
Reduced my meal size massively after that and drank a lot of water (squash)
Not had any side effects since
3rd jab today and I'm 9lb down.

icecreamfish · 17/01/2025 22:18

Just wondering (I'm going to start this very soon) are you advised what to eat/ how to take etc or is everyone just Googling the best foods to eat etc?

I genuinely planned to eat less of what I eat already with maybe 1 or 2 chocolates from the tub- not 10!

Now I'm wondering...

Op hope you don't mind me asking, what is your BMI? I'm wondering with a lower BMI would that make symptoms worse?

OscarsMum02 · 06/02/2025 07:50

Hi, sorry to hear you have struggled with your first week. I’m struggling so bad today.
day 1 was fine, little rash on my neck which I believe is a slight allergic reaction. This has since gone.
day 2 fine, slight dizziness.

day 3 from sulpher burps and violently being sick.
i can’t keep water down, it was awful.

my start BMI was 30, can I ask what yours is?
also how have you gone on?
did the side effects die down?
im so scared to eat anything or even drink. last night was awful! Xx

CaramelEmporium · 06/02/2025 10:30

@QueenBarbs did you take a second dose and how was it? I was like that on Wegovy and couldn’t face it again but wondering if MJ may be different…..

QueenBarbs · 07/02/2025 07:46

@CaramelEmporium I didn't take it. I couldn't get over the first dose and ended up at the hospital. They said I had a bad reaction to it and not to take any more. 4 weeks on and my stomach is only just starting to recover properly. On the plus said it did make me lose over a stone in a month 😂 but obviously not in a way I would have hoped. So I am now just continuing with calorie counting.

I was one of the unlucky ones, many have great success so I wouldn't want to put anyone off trying it.

@OscarsMum02 I didn't take a second dose as I was advised not to as I had a bad reaction to it.

My BMI was 31.

I hope you have a better journey than me and you manage to continue.

It's given me a kick start to the weight loss as I lost over is stone in a month with the side effects of one dose. So that's at least given me a kick start to continue and feel motivated, I'm now just calorie counting.

Good Luck with your journey.

I'm not OP but I had similar side effects to her, though not so bad I ended up in hospital. But my body completely rejected the drug like I had been poisoned (I got it from a reputable supplier). My BMI was 33.

I know we are the unusual ones @QueenBarbs and I'm sad it didn't work for me but it doesn't work for everyone.

OscarsMum02 · 11/02/2025 19:38

So interesting, thanks for your feedback.

Day 3 was dreadful, but woke up on day 4 feeling fine. The rest of the week I was fine with half a stone loss.

Injection day was Monday and sulphur burps are coming back!… here we go again 😩

my body must suffer with the spike in the 48hrs.

x

It's curious to see how differently we all react. I had a horrendous experience on Wegovy, didn't end up in hospital but the most awful D&V for three days, couldn't even keep water down. Pen went in the bin after one dose!
Then last week I started on Mounjaro. Not a single bad side effect so far, suppression from day 1 and I feel great and hugely optimistic!

Oh wow! That makes me tempted to try it too to see if my side effects are also less severe compared to how I was on Ozempic.

But I’m on a more traditional diet at the moment and have lost half a stone (early days) so for now I’ll keep doing what I’m doing.

Simmerdown1204 · 21/04/2025 16:41

I have been on it a week and just had second jab and I have felt fine , was worried it wasn’t working , had a headache on and off but no sickness other than when I ate to much , so eat a meal bit at a time .

Charlump · 22/04/2025 21:52

Hi there… I’m on week 5 tomorrow 2.5 and I’ve been getting quite a bit of sickness and diarrhea more. starting to think this jab not working for me I’m hardy eating as it is and what I do get down me just come straight back out really frustrating me now

Gingermum2022 · 08/01/2026 11:51

I’ve started taking mounjaro this week for the first time since having the injection I have been throwing up and also diarrhoea, I am actually considering giving it up as I don’t want to be sick and wiped out after each time taking. Any suggestions or is this normal

Disturbia81 · 08/01/2026 14:00

Two people I know ended up in hospital so it’s not that rare.

Twiglets1 · 08/01/2026 14:12

I had to give up Wegovy after just one week as was throwing up so violently it felt unsafe ... I know a lot of people don't have such bad side effects though.

SilenceInside · 08/01/2026 14:16

@Gingermum2022 If you have a look at the patient information leaflet there is a section about side effects, and you will see that vomiting and diarrhea are described as very common side effects which means that more than 1 in 10 people may experience them. So not normal, as in it happens to everyone, but certainly common. It is usually associated with starting the treatment, and then when you go up a dose. It usually peaks 2 or 3 days after your injection and then wears off as the amount of medication in your system falls. Side effects like this usually stop when you are on a stable dose level and have been for a while.

There is also advice on the patient information leaflet about how to manage these side effects.

CNDflag · 09/01/2026 13:16

Sounds bloody awful 😳
