Ordered another 7.5 should have probably gone up to 10

Morning All

Just after a bit of advice really although not sure if there's a lot I can do.

I've been using 7.5mg MJ since mid Nov, have continued to have a good weight loss, a bit hit and miss over Christmas but last week it came back down.

This week though I've gained a few lbs. Just took delivery of another 7.5mg this week to start tomorrow and just kicking myself now that I should have probably moved up to 10 and kind of kicking myself I didn't.

I know some people have been trying to keep doses low as possible throughout their journey, does make sense but feel I've shot myself in the foot a bit. Not sure if I can contact prescriber again now to ask for that new dose?

Anyone experienced anything similar? Thank you

Can you use a syringe to draw enough to make it a 10mg doseage? Don’t ask me the calculation, I’ve got no idea! And then in a couple of weeks you can reorder. Or just contact your provider and explain. Personally I’d probably just go with the first method if I were in your situation.

InkHeart2024 · 16/01/2025 07:27

You've put on a few lbs in a week? Have you though? You'd have to seriously overeat to genuinely put on more than a pound of fat in a week which shouldn't be physically possible on Mounjaro. If you think you want to increase your dose you can take 1.25 doses each week and buy your next pen early.

I’m not sure why folks try to stay low, I guess cost or anxiety, maybe not liking taking meds. It doesn’t wear off, you’re supposed to move up every month till you find your optimal dose which doesn’t wear off. Then stay on it, it doesn’t stop working, obvs or you’d not be able to use it for life and it wouldn’t be used for diabetes, and about to be approved for cardiovascular, liver and kidney disease.

it could also be as wegovy/ozempic does stop working, hence why it can only be used for 2 years. Maybe some folks thought mounjaro was the same.

Wegovy and ozempic don't stop working either! People with diabetes are prescribed ozempic long term.

I would email them and ask if you can order a 10 now, and keep the 7.5 for later, should have a long date, mine are Nov 2025 .
If they won't let you, maybe try a different pharmacy for a 1 off, just show them the pic of your last box, not this new one..
And if that doesn't work then maybe take 4 doses of a bit more than 7.5 out of this pen, you won't get the 5 weeks, but you will have 4 stronger weeks.
I don't know how much, but you could probably get 4 x 8mg out of a pen..

I’m not sure why folks try to stay low

Because it works for them - I have no cost restrictions and no anxiety about moving up if needed, but if low doses have worked well enough for me to lose 5st so far over 6 months why change it?

you’re supposed to move up every month till you find your optimal dose

not according to many qualified prescribers and Drs who have discussed this with Eli Lilly during their training with them and apply that training on more individual basis to their patients/are patient led, the standard instructions are not mandatory, they are more flexible than that

Then stay on it, it doesn’t stop working

There are many people who worked their way up to and stayed on 15mg for several months that would disagree with you. For some people the effects required for weight management (which is what this forum is for) do wear off

The 'optimal dose' is the dose that works best for you. So for some people that will be 2.5mg and they may never need to increase. For others it may be 5 or 7.5 or 10 or 15.

Most people don't like to take more medication than they need. If people are seeing good weight loss at 2.5mg it would be sensible to stay at that dose.

Personally 2.5mg is working a bit but I only get a day or two of suppression before I start craving chocolate! I'm therefore moving up to 5mg at 4 weeks and can't wait! I've had no side effects so this feels right for me. If 2.5mg was working really well, I'd stick there.

Thanks all some helpful advice here.

In your situation I'd try and order a 10mg pen and then alternate each week (7.5 one week 10 the next) til both pens used so as not to waste the pens or cause myself problems with trying to draw out the med or mess about with click numbers...

Then you'd have two pens open for 8 weeks which would render both of them less efficacious

murraymcgill · 16/01/2025 12:18

@HippityHoppityhoo same position here I've got another 7.5 here start tomorrow but I wish I ordered a 10 and I can't afford to buy another 1 so I'll just need to deal with it and use will power 2 weeks ago I had a gain of 8lbs God knows how I've been eating the same food I'm hoping it was xmas catching up

TeenLifeMum · 16/01/2025 12:31

I'd stick with what you have but order the next one up for next month. Use it as a trial for post medication and do daily calorie counting. Good luck.

IReallyNeedThisToWork · 16/01/2025 12:53

@HippityHoppityhoo why do you think you need to go up? You don’t mention what the problem is other than not losing which happens to all us all at some point.

Witchlite · 16/01/2025 14:15

I have a 5 pen (unopened) in the fridge. It has a November use by. When I decided I did need to move to 7.5, I ordered and started it. I plan to use the 5mg to dial down the dose as I hit the healthy BMI level. Or, you could use the 5 doses of 7.5 = 37.5 and have 1 more week at 7.5 and 3 weeks at 10. If you don’t have a syringe, just order a couple.

HippityHoppityhoo · 16/01/2025 16:03

Thanks all, MedExpress have said I can't re order now until I've gone through with the 7.5 so will see how that fares over the next few weeks.

I feel I need to go up as benefits of the drug have lasted maybe 2-3 days and then worn off, combined with a few pounds weight gain means that it's not having the same impact it did at this dose at the start so just feels like the right time to move up.
