You've reached your goal weight - come chat about maintenance, not regaining, going cold turkey or titrating down

Would people who've hit their target weight be interested in a general thread on how they are getting on? You might be titrating your WLI down, you might be going cold turkey, you might be on a maintenance programme or you might have gone back on.

I used MJ for 5 months and I've hit my goal and I'm muddling through with my own version of "maintenance". I'm doing a 1.25 dose weekly to use up what I've got left and cut down gradually, so I don't lose all the benefits of MJ immediately. I was a complete lightweight and did the whole 5 months on just 2.5, as I had savage suppression and loss of appetite. So, I'm just halving my dosage.

I'd be interested to hear how others are getting on, given it all feels a bit new and the long-term aspects of weight maintenance are not yet much talked about.

Actually just checked and I stopped on Feb 1st. I was on 7.5 and just didn't do the next one.

MargoLivebetter · 20/02/2025 08:49

Welcome @Tohaveandtohold . How long were you on WLI?

Glad to hear it is all going well so far @wite . Sounds like you have got some good strategies in place. I agree about the clothes. Feeling good in the clothes I'm wearing that are all my slim clothes and a few new treats / rewards thrown in is sooooooooooooooo satisfying and motivating.

Morning all, how are we doing? It is weigh in day for me and I'm 10st 1lb, so one pound up on last week, but if I can keep hovering at 10st, then I'm happy. That's another week maintaining without calorie tracking too, so that has made me happy too.

I'm conscious of food noise creep though. I made a cake on Friday for guests and there is some left and whilst it isn't shouting at me, I can definitely hear it whispering from time to time. I didn't have that at all when on MJ properly. I will be taking it into the office tomorrow, so that temptation is removed completely.

Holding strong at 8st 9.6lb for the third day in a row which is my lowest weight. I was 8st 11.6lb when I stopped taking Mounjaro so I am happy with that!

Like you @MargoLivebetter I haven't been calorie tracking, just being aware of what I am eating.

MargoLivebetter · 24/02/2025 10:18

Great stuff @SnacklessWonder ! 👏

Bit of a rough week for me. I've noticed I seem to suffer more with gastric issues now than I did when I was losing weight, despite continuing to eat very clean. I feel very well in myself, but get constipation, then diarrhea when I try to deal with it. As a result I've dropped about 3lbs this week so now 9st 11lbs, despite needing to stay around 10st/BMI 20.5. I'm surprised halving dose from 10mg to 5mg is doing this so wondering if introducing a few carbs has sent my stomach into revolt. Plus thinking laxatives are too powerful.

So a bit of a dilemma and more testing and trialling ahead this week.

MargoLivebetter · 24/02/2025 11:15

@KrankyKumquat that all sounds a bit tricky. I don't really get constipation so have no words of wisdom to share. Hopefully, you'll get it sorted out this week.

Wheat based products do give me an upset stomach though, if I eat too much of them. They give me mild diarrhea but the most evil, deeply anti-social farts. A friend served a pasta dinner last week, which was delicious but I was glad it was a weekday night and I was home alone!!!! I rarely eat pasta myself and have to be very careful to only eat small amounts of bread or cakes, even stuff made with sourdough or sprouted grains. I'm not a coeliac either, I've been tested so many times. I think I have just got a bit intolerant over the years.

I have fluctuated by a couple of pounds up and down but I mostly seem to be hovering about 72kg. I was 69kg at my lightest. I feel happy enough at 72kg, but ideally I’d like to be under 70kg.

We're about the same weight now @MargoLivebetter

I had a hungry weekend but I did my best to avoid the noise. I did have some crisps and left after Xmas choccy but not much and I'm glad it's finished now.

Back on the good choices train today.

MargoLivebetter · 24/02/2025 13:58

Good news @MyDenimViewer and @wite . I'm guessing it is going to be constant vigilance for a while until we get the hang of staying at our chosen weight.

OP posts:
MyDenimViewer · 24/02/2025 14:15

@MargoLivebetter yes, just monitoring just now to see how things go. Like you, there’s definitely more food noise but I’m trying to ignore it!

Tohaveandtohold · 24/02/2025 20:42

@MargoLivebetter , I was on it for 20 weeks (4 pens as I used bonus doses). I’m now 2.4lbs lighter than my last weigh in on MJ. I’ve not been tracking calories, it’s like with how long I’ve been on MJ, I already know whats best to eat, the quantity etc and I just continued and I’m still actively doing my weighted exercises. I know that’s my new way of life now and I’m happy about it really.
I just think maybe I need to sit down and work out how to increase my calories so that I’m maintaining rather than losing weight.
Glad to see everyone’s updates and hopefully we all work out the best ways for us to keep maintaining.

SnacklessWonder · 24/02/2025 20:48

@Tohaveandtohold I was on about the same length of time, also four pens. I've not gone anywhere close to my old habits. Used to love a pizza, a whole one, pre-MJ, I eat a slice now an that's fine (not my whole dinner by the way haha, but I don't eat a whole pizza which is like 1600 calories on it's own). I'm glad that being on MJ seems to have altered my behaviours.

SnacklessWonder · 25/02/2025 12:14

So thrilled to get on the scales today and be down half a lb to my lowest weight in about 20 years, 8st 9lb. So 2.5lb lighter than when I finished MJ at the end of December. I am more than happy with that as I am not calorie counting.

Well done! I love that people on here are keeping it off and still losing if they want to.

I've just tried some holiday clothes on and most of them are too big. I'll need to get selling on vinted to get new ones in. It feels nice not to be squeezed in like a sausage skin.

MargoLivebetter · 25/02/2025 12:54

Fantastic @SnacklessWonder . Do you have a goal weight in mind, somewhere that you want to remain at?

@wite, I think there are few things more satisfying than clothes that are way too big! The longer I manage to keep the weight off, the more confident I will be about selling all the bigger stuff. I'm really enjoying adding smaller size pieces too.

Happy to stay where I am really @MargoLivebetter, not actively trying to lose any so any drops in weight are purely incidental but I am glad it's going that way and not the other!

It's a lovely feeling isn't it?! Honestly one of my favourite things about weight loss. I'm going to miss the high of fitting in to the next size down! But, it's worth it!

ThisMustBeMyDream · 27/02/2025 12:43

I have now made it to 4lb from goal weight. But a big shift in my measurements and dropped a dress size so perhaps I need to go gentle on myself with my goal, as I do want to build muscle!
Yesterday, I made it to a size 8! A fucking size 8! I honestly couldn't believe it! Last time I was a size 8 was age 15!!!
I did, however, chicken out of stopping medication. I ordered 5 more saxenda pens yesterday. I've only 3 doses left, but I just don't feel ready for cold turkey. Those pens will last me 2.5 months on the lowest dose (although I could still half it further if I wanted). That's it though. No more after that. Hopefully this will see me through the early maintenance days 🤞.

Hate fantastic, well done

MargoLivebetter · 28/02/2025 09:01

@ThisMustBeMyDream great news. That is fantastic. Go you! How long have you been on Saxenda for and how much have you lost?

I had a bit of a result too. I wanted some everyday black trousers and popped into H&M yesterday evening. I always think that the sizes in H&M are very mean, so tend to go a size bigger than I would in other stores. I tried on the 14 and they were MASSIVE! So I bought myself a very comfortable fitting size 12 instead. I don't think I have ever been a size 12 in H&M, even in my previous slim incarnations.

I definitely feel like my body is still slightly finding itself at 10 stone. Even though I lost the weight slowly, because I'm a gimmer, everything did look at bit saggy and loose. I think, and I hope it is not my imagination, that things are starting to look a bit tighter again now. I'm working hard on keeping the protein at decent levels and doing plenty of bodyweight resistance / Pilates exercise to try and keep and even grow muscle.

How are all the Friday weigh in posters doing?

MargoLivebetter · 03/03/2025 09:37

Another week at the same weight for me. It feels reassuring to know I can do this without logging every calorie. I can just do a rough approximation and that seems to be holding me steady. Fingers crossed.

How's everyone else getting on?

Kilimounjaro · 05/03/2025 12:00

Hello, joining this thread as I’ve just started to taper down my dosage although aiming to keep losing weight for a bit more as I’m at the top end of my healthy BMI range now.

I did a lot of helpful stuff around nutrition education, fitness, and habit change coaching before starting Mounjaro. So - I think the foundations for maintaining are there.

However - I’m worried by hearing things about an insatiable appetite after coming off MJ.

Basically, I’ve worked on my emotional eating and habit change so feel good about that, but I cannot deal with being genuinely hungry so I’m trying to plan how to deal with a returning appetite and hoping that it’s not going to be insatiable like some articles etc suggest!

MargoLivebetter · 05/03/2025 12:16

Welcome @Kilimounjaro . How long are you planning for the taper down? What dose of MJ did you get up to?
