You've reached your goal weight - come chat about maintenance, not regaining, going cold turkey or titrating down

Would people who've hit their target weight be interested in a general thread on how they are getting on? You might be titrating your WLI down, you might be going cold turkey, you might be on a maintenance programme or you might have gone back on.

I used MJ for 5 months and I've hit my goal and I'm muddling through with my own version of "maintenance". I'm doing a 1.25 dose weekly to use up what I've got left and cut down gradually, so I don't lose all the benefits of MJ immediately. I was a complete lightweight and did the whole 5 months on just 2.5, as I had savage suppression and loss of appetite. So, I'm just halving my dosage.

I'd be interested to hear how others are getting on, given it all feels a bit new and the long-term aspects of weight maintenance are not yet much talked about.

@PissedOffNeighbour22 Pharmulous will let you restart if you are already with them and don’t charge for it. Cloud might do also. Worth asking.

ThisMustBeMyDream · 30/03/2025 22:08

Have any of you at maintenance but still on meds, struggled to increase your calories?
I'm aiming for 1600, only up by 100 but I'm so full, uncomfortably so. It's only been a couple of days I suppose. But I'm not enjoying the feeling. I will give it another week, and then think about reducing the dose if no improvement.
I've not even increased food volume much, I've mostly been drinking extra galaxy light hot chocolate with my extra 100 🙈.

MargoLivebetter · 31/03/2025 10:51

I put on 2lb this week, so will be back to calorie counting again. I definitely ate too much over the weekend.

My IBS is back with a vengeance 😭. I have issues with speedy gut motility and for the 7 months I was on MJ, I became a one poo a day person and had no issues with wind either. It has clearly completely left my system now!!!!! For donkey's years I thought the IBS must be diet related (particularly as that is what the GP always said too), but now I know it is what was called in the old days a spastic colon, where everything is just moving too fast and not smoothly. I suspect it has more to do with anxiety & stress than food. I'm back to chugging buscopan. I'm almost tempted to restart MJ for that reason alone.

Hi @DamnedIfIDoDamnedIfIDont look forward to hearing how you get along too.

I’m now pretty much at my target. Ive given myself a 3lb wiggle room. So my plan now is to reduce MJ. Slowly titrate downwards but firmly stay in the wiggle room zone.
Im hoping that the healthy eating, smaller portions, less sweet stuff, more walking and aqua fitness twice a week will keep me on track. its unknown territory with a new me in a brave new world. Ive got this!

MargoLivebetter · 02/04/2025 09:04

@DamnedIfIDoDamnedIfIDont you have got this. What dose of MJ did you get up to?

Thank you! 🙏
Well actually i customised my doses
i bought the highest (15) but drew up 3 syringes to make up the normal dose. For instance lets say a full normal dose is .6ml i drew up 3 syringes of .2ml and took one dose Monday and a second one Friday
but if i felt i needed more suppression that week id take the 3rd dose Wednesday
so on average a pen lasted me 6 weeks
so i guess i was on aprox 10mg
if that makes sense?

MargoLivebetter · 02/04/2025 10:16

@DamnedIfIDoDamnedIfIDont ok, so that gives you plenty of room for manouevre to titrate down and see how you go.

If you are at goal weight, why are you staying on the high doses? These are powerful drugs, I would say to titrating down (slowly but surely) is best for overall health. And money! I dosed down over four months and have found it fjne

I think you may have misread. I'm not on a high dose. I'm on the 2nd lowest dose (Saxenda, dosage is 0.6mg, 1.2, 1.8, 2.4, 3... I'm on 1.2). I only reached goal last Wednesday so I don't want to make too many changes at once. I will titrate slowly, bit first I am upping cals to see what my maintenance is. I'm the same weight pretty much as a week ago when I hit maintenance, so I'm doing another week on 1600 to see what that shows.

Just popping my head back in to say although I restarted after a 4-wk break I’ve been quite happy on 2.5mg and at a stable weight. I’ve had quite a bit of life stress and this has really helped to not comfort eat. It has however made me realise that I need some sort of low maintenance dose to make that carb/sugar craving food noise or blood sugar stability that MJ gives. I’ve not been activity trying to lose more weight as I’m quite happy where I’m at but hope I can stay here for a while if I can get perscribed. I used my prescription history to restart ok with photos.

MargoLivebetter · 03/04/2025 11:23

Good news @NewYear0Me . Thanks for updating. Long may your stable weight continue.

Hello! Just stopping by to say I've completed three full months off Mounjaro completely and I am still 3lbs lighter than when I stopped. Maintaining is going very well. I hope that gives others hope!

That's great to read and well done. Did you take a maintenance dose first?

I was only on Mounjaro for 4 months, I did one month at 2.5mg, two months at 5mg and then the last month back at 2.5mg (using all the bonus doses too), and then I just stopped.

OneMellowCat · 03/04/2025 22:42

I’ve lost all the weight post covid by myself and kept it off for 2 ys. I know what is on my plate energy wise just by looking at it. Minimized any additives with barcodes. Things were good! This is my 2nd try with perimeno and bereavement, but I intend to go about it matter of factly. If the food noise comes back I will take the jabs again. It is as simple as that for me now. I feared what will I do at the “end of it” but this drug should not be prescribed solely based off looks! The problem is in the head! Even if I lost all the weight I understand i am not safe with my history. If I could take that jab in october 2022 I would be in a different place- slowly lost control and hit rock bottom with binging. I don’t want any more of that packaged junk in my life. It is no good for me and now I understood completely what processed food and excess sugar does to you. There is no such thing as willpower with those things. You lost the fight when you put it in your basket. I needed that intervention and won’t hesitate to use these meds again now. The silence in the head and pleasure from normal foods is everything. Hope this helps somebody who is fearing to come off it - you can always intervene and never let that happen to you again or end up in a pathological state.

MargoLivebetter · 04/04/2025 09:05

Thanks @OneMellowCat . For some of us and I include myself, the reasons behind our eating are very messed up. I do feel nervous now that I've finished taking the WLI that I will "fail" again by putting the weight on. It will be interesting to see if I've managed to shift the two pounds I gained last week. If I have, that will help give me confidence again.

@SnacklessWonderthat’s great news. Can you share any tips? I’m a couple of pounds away from my target now. I’ve got 6 doses left to take and a maintenance call with oushk in 3 weeks. Trying to decide what my plan of action is.

Sadteacher · 05/04/2025 16:55

I finished my last 10mg pen last week. I have a call with oushk next week. If I ask for a 5mg conti prescription do you think I could wait a few weeks before ordering? I want to see how I get on on my own but don’t really want to pay the £15 a month.

PissedOffNeighbour22 · 06/04/2025 20:26

@ThisMustBeMyDream i’ve had trouble being able to post replies over the past week, so hopefully this will finally post!

sounds like you’ve had a lot off fuss with getting Saxenda, bet you’ll be glad to finally finish using it.

wow that sounds a horrendous 30th. Glad to hear you are happy now. Good luck for the wedding and I’m sure your dress will look great. If you’re not sure about it could you swap it?

I originally had a vintage style dress which was a wedding sample dress but it’s too big so I’ve ended up buying a traditional wedding dress from Vinted. It’s a bridal size 12 and corseted but it’s already loose over the hips and bum and can’t be pulled in any more.

Are you at goal now with a view to keeping a stable weight up to the wedding?

MargoLivebetter · 07/04/2025 10:13

@PissedOffNeighbour22 sounds like you are doing really well - congratulations!

I lost one of the pounds that I put on, so am now only 1lb over my goal weight. Hopefully, with another careful week, I will shed that too. I've shown myself that I can do it without the WLI, but it is has also shown me how watchful I need to be too.

OP posts:
PissedOffNeighbour22 · 07/04/2025 10:48

@MargoLivebetter it’s great hearing that people are off WLI and doing well. I’m not looking forward to watching everything I eat so the weight doesn’t come back on. I’ll start reducing my dose at Easter but I still haven’t decided whether to go onto maintenance or try going cold turkey.

Forevafatty · 08/04/2025 22:44

Hello all, please can I join you? I am about a stone away from target weight and obsessively worrying about what next. My BMI is still nearly 27 though.

My thinking was always that I'd come off it and try to maintain as best I can. If I gain weight, it won't take long until I can restart at a starting BMI of 27 (because I have a health condition - high blood pressure). I won't ever then regain all of the weight and get back to a BMI of 40 ever again. Will this work? Is anyone else just planning to start again as and when they need to?
