Horrendous D&V

So I have been on mounjaro since the middle of October and have bounced around the doses a bit due to really struggling with side effects. When I went up to 5mg I was unable to eat for half the week due to nausea.
I m currently on 3.75mg and have been for the last couple of week trying to work up to 5mg again which has been better, but yesterday I had lunch at work: mixed veg, chipotle chicken leg and a few oven chips (like 5).
Omg last night I had the most horrendous diarrhoea, to the point where I m still passing water 18 hours later, and vomited everything back from lunch which looked the same as when I ate it. (Sorry).
Has anyone else experience this? Could it be that it was too much food? Too much spice?
I still feel rough today but just trying to get the fluids in.

Yes I experienced this, it was so bad I ended up in hospital on a drip. It happened to me 3 times on Mounjaro so I ended up quitting after 8 months. My quality of life was being affected so it just wasn't worth it for me. I hope you feel better soon x

I m really sorry to hear you had such a horrible experience. Did you manage to pinpoint anything that was causing it?
I m a bit worried that the diarrhoea is carrying on the next day, when clearly there’s nothing left in my system. 😫

Yes I had terrible diarrhoea last week! Lasted for 4 nights! Horrendous! I seriously thought about quitting mounjaro. I think i can pinpoint the mistake I made, the day after my jab I had red meat, cheese and fizzy drink although in small amounts. I've read somewhere on this forum that for a few days post jab it's best to eat little and often. I'm nervous about injecting again but my plan is to have several small, bland meals post jab. Hope you feel better soon.

Keep drinking electrolytes! And imodiam instants helped too

Yeah I think I will definitely take some Imodium when I get home as I m worried I m flushing everything out of my system and will feel even worse.
I have my electrolytes with me and will drink those in a few minutes.
its so strange because I ve obviously been on the jabs now for 10 ish weeks and not had anything like this before - can only assume it was poor food choice 😩

Yes maybe they use oil in the marinade for the spicy chicken. Or on the salad. How many days post jab was the diarrhoea?

So I take it Thursday morning and this was yesterday so 4?
Am I right in thinking that it when the medication peaks in our body which may also be why I reacted so horrendously?
I m thinking to drop back down to 2.5 for my last stone of loss as clearly it’s not agreeing with me at all. 😩

Maybe your just really sensitive to it? I only had to eat really plainly for the first 2 months to avoid ahem those side effects and then I could introduce more interesting options (more carbs, spice, fat, etc) with no issue. Are you loosing weight? If you are, just stay on 2.5mg. That's what I did and I've lost 5 stone.

Yes I have lost 3 and a half stone so far, but had stalled for around a month and so thought I would try to move up. Clearly that was a bad decision.
I definitely think I will drop back down to 2.5mg and just see how that goes

@Tgilaura I'd go back to 2.5mg and then take a look at your meal plan against your diet plan. Maybe you can tweak some aspects which will help produce weight loss again? For me its always liquid intake, macros (I was low carb but now on 80-100g carbs per day, but anything over 100g can affect me negatively) and calorie intake. Sometimes a 24 fast can get me back on track. Good luck.

DJL19 · 14/01/2025 14:12

How long have you been taking MJ for OP?

And was your increase from 2.5mg recent? Your loss is amazing I wouldnt necessary stop (unless you dont improve) id just make a note at what you think could have triggered this and just start from basic again and eat bland small and often x I hope you're okay sounds horrendous! I had a bout of d&v which lasted 36hrs then stopped which I regret rather than pinpoint what I ate that caused it

Thank you. I think that’s definitely worth a go. I don’t want to stop at this point but I just feel so awful. Swigging down those electrolytes!

Hi, yes I think it would be a shame to stop if I can avoid it happening again.
Edit: been taking since middle of October. So coming up to 12 weeks.
i ve tried to increase a couple of times and struggled too much with nausea on 5, so I ve been on 3.75 the last two weeks but it just doesn’t feel worth all of this upset. I ve managed to to go to work today but it has been a struggle.

Similar thing happened to me after about 8 weeks it lasted for 5 days. This coincided with increase up to 3.75 so never went any higher than that but 2.5 seems to work for me. Prefer to have some want to eat food as helps me get in better habits in long run.
I had felt very hungry and we ordered Chinese which I hadn’t been eating that type of food. I wolfed it down and remember thinking gosh not eaten like this in a while. It was a chicken dish but think must have been what I had eaten, perhaps oil in it and overeating. I actually had around 4 weeks off after that as I had felt so grotty . I didn’t gain whilst not on it yes some cravings came back but I felt it was good for me to see when I come off it need to continue good food choices and activity. I went back on it onto 2.5 and continued to do well and lose weight.
