Injecting extra with needle

Hi please see photo. If I'm injecting with this needle do I only take the liquid up to 60 units? There was way more than 60 units left in the needle. Should I take more? It's a 5mg pen mounjaro. Thank you.

60 units is 0.6ml as the full dose (5mg in this case).

You can take 60 units as your usual 5mg or check how much is left in total, calculate what it is in mg and decide if you want to take all of it as a step up to the 7.5mg dose or not (that is if you're moving up for your next pen).

You said there's way more than 60 units - how much is it?

What dose do you want to take? Presumably you want to take a 5mg dose as per the previous 4 injections?

A full dose for any pen is 0.6ml. The syringe is a 1ml syringe, so the 60 mark on that syringe would be 0.6ml and be a 5mg dose.

0.6ml is a full dose. You shouldn't have 'way' more than 0.6ml left as each pen has approx 3ml in (4 doses of 0.6 plus extra approx 0.6ml) - have you been injecting less than a full dose?
If you are planning to go up to 7.5 in the next pen and have between 0.6 and 0.9 ml left you could take the whole amount as you'd be going up a dose in line with the expected dosing schedule.

Can I ask how you extract the dose from the pen. I can’t get the clicker to release after the 4th dose. Thank you.

Poke a clean syringe down the red hole in the syringe 💉

Yes I use an insulin needle to withdraw the dose through the red rubber bung. I always swab with an alcohol wipe as usual, then uncap syringe, put needle in and then slowly draw it out. Otherwise you might get air bubbles. You also might need to draw the syringe back a little as the pen drains to avoid hitting the grey bit inside. I always draw out everything you can, then take needle out of the pen, turn upside down and tap to get any air bubbles to the top and expell them. I check the dose here too, its 0.6ml for a full dose of whatever pen you have. It's very easy, but daunting at first.

Scuse my sidetrack, but why are people extracting it from the pens into other syringes and changing their dosages? I've used it, but never looked at the threads on here so had no idea people were up to such things or why? Wouldn't occur to me to mess with the pens and dosages but perhaps I'm being naive.

@pinkdelight most people who do this are motivated by the expense of the medication. After taking the 4 doses from the pen, there is liquid remaining in the pen that is enough for another dose. At a minimum of £25 per injection, you can see why some people are motivated to use it.

I can't see the size of that syringe and what quantity of liquid it holds, I use syringes that are .5ml so I do a full syringe then an extra 0.1ml.

@waitingforthehallmarkedman You can get a 1ml syringe instead of a 0.5ml so you can do it in one go. They sell the 1ml syringes too. The OP's syringe shows 100 units which is 1ml.

Please be careful with hygiene when using syringes. Taking a syringe out of a sealed sterile pack and placing on a dusty looking plastic bag doesn't look hygienic (unless this isn't the syringe you plan to use)

If you want a full 5mg dose it is 0.6ml or 60 units in a 1ml syringe. If you take more you are giving yourself a higher dose.

It's up to you if you want a higher dose.
A full dose from any pen is 0.6ml.
I usually get 0.65 to 0.7ml from the 5th dose which I use as a small step up if I'm planning on moving up to a higher dose pen next time.

I took the 4 other shots with the pen normally. It looks like it had 2 extra shots in it. I took 60 units on my syringe and then I got another 60 units out but I didn't inject them and then had to throw away but I'll know for next time. Thanks

I took the photo after I had used the syringe. My sharps box is in the dusty bag so it was going in there.
