I'm not being goady here.

Just feel that on some days I should totally do this but then on others it's nuts.

I don't know how you can't worry about damage to your system.

I'm 3st overweight

I'm curious about maintenance too @AmusedBouched but there don't seem to be many people talking about this. Unless I've totally missed them...

(love your username ☺️)

There aren’t a huge amount of people talking about it because not many people have got there yet.
But here’s my story, if you’re interested. I started MJ in April. Lost 3.5 stone and got to my goal weight by mid September, tapered down for a couple of weeks and stopped taking it at the end of September. I was 62kg when I stopped taking it.
Since then I have continued tracking my calories (at maintenance level), continued walking the dog for an hour a day, continued strength training 3 times a week. As of yesterday morning I was 60.9kg. I am confident that I can continue to maintain.

The certainty of diseases caused by obesity. Would have thought it's obvious.

SilenceInside · 13/01/2025 21:46

@BringOnTheSunshineNow can I ask where you got that bullet point list of apparent risks and ask what type of WLI they refer to?

Yes and on a day when it’s been in the media too 🤔

The current health problems I was experiencing.

I was obese, had been diagnosed with T2 diabetes high cholesterol and had constant knee pain.

Now (4 months down the line) I am overweight and only 11 lbs off being healthy BMI, my HbA1C has reduced from 11% to 7.2% and I'm having a repeat test tomorrow to see if my diabetes is in remission and whether my cholesterol has reduced. Knee pain is also improving, not gone but better.

Ooh! Please update! Hope you have good news.

HesDeadBenYouCanStopNow · 13/01/2025 21:56

I thought about long and hard, I read as much as I could about potential side effects and read the recommendation that 1.2m people in the UK would benefit from MJ to tackle uncontrolled diabetes, obesity, and the knock on impacts of that weight on my body. I talked to my gp practice.

I decided that the potential benefit out weighed the risks. I took a decision to trial it.

I have been unable to lose weight following menopause and thyroid issues. Even when reasonably medicated on levothyroxine I've been struggling to stay the same weight.

On 2.5 mg of MJ I've lost over 1 and a half stone in 5 weeks. I feel great and am starting to see my old self coming through.

I need to lose another 1.5 stone and a bit to be in healthy bmi.

I'm sure my knees and lungs are thankful for the changes already

BringOnTheSunshineNow · 13/01/2025 21:57

@PigInAHouse that's brilliant well done.

The thing is, lots of people seem to drop 2/3 stone in 4/6 months... so there must be people who have reached their target on here.

There's just not much chat about that. So it's great to hear how well you've managed to maintain 👍👍

Thank you for your honesty @InfoSecInTheCity X

No problem. I think it's important to share our knowledge and experiences. These injections have been around for a while, but no where near as prevalent so we can be reasonable assured that they are safe or at least safer than continuing to be fat.

I've attached my progress pics, the first set I took last January before embarking on unsuccessful attempt 7,363 at losing weight through diet and exercise. The second set was this weekend after 4 months on MJ.

@lostinthememory how much is the maintenance dose?

It varies for everyone, it's hard to say.

BringOnTheSunshineNow · 13/01/2025 22:09

@lostinthememory I suppose the cynic in me thinks "of course the drug companies are interested in supporting you to take their expensive drug forever...". 🤷🏻‍♀️

Oh I've just found a thread about those who have finished taking WLD! Will follow along.

I’ve finished Mounjaro - weekly update to report on what happens when you finish! www.mumsnet.com/Talk/weight-loss-injections/5197723-ive-finished-mounjaro-weekly-update-to-report-on-what-happens-when-you-finish

I decided to use based on the fact that I was obese and still adding weight on.
I have been on the pill for many years previously which also has drawbacks but on balance provided me with a safe contraceptive.
i had all the Covid vaccines on the day so of the government.
I wanted to be healthier and felt this was a good option.
I thought we’ll try for a few months to see how it goes, obviously I am losing weight steadily.
I am able to eat at least 2 meals a day and keep them low carb, high protein and lots of water.
I think if it was a pill, people would be more receptive to it, it’s the jabbing that people see as a bit iffy imho.

It's not that expensive though

Beyondbeliefsometimes · 13/01/2025 22:14

An obese individual has a bleaker looking future than the average person with cancer with a healthy BMI. I heard this and was enough to make me realise what I was looking at, I was already heading full steam to diabetes. Not only was I risking all those other issues such as diabetes, high BP, high cholesterol, I was also increasing my chances of cancer but with a high BMI. I wanted to give myself the best chance of life for my kids.

BringOnTheSunshineNow · 13/01/2025 21:33

This is a very good point indeed @Sugarnspicenallthingsnaice

I keep thinking if i don't do loads of exercise anyway then i'll just go all flabby and lose muscle. I have started weights and tried low carbing which feels great but is hard work sustaining.

But you need to change habits anyway right?

Ideally, yes.

I was always sporty and a gym goer but that was no match for my gigantic appetite so I kept putting weight on anyway. Helped along by the pandemic then menopause.

Wegovy has allowed me to calm down and focus on what I need to eat each day to nourish my body (and for the moment, lose weight) without my brain screaming EAT THIS! EAT THAT! EAT MORE! at me all day.

Bogginsthe3rd · 13/01/2025 22:18

For those on the fence about taking the weight loss medication - make sure it's a sturdy fence ! OP - people will feel unsure if they are doing the right thing even if they have started weight loss medication. You reminding them of known (and potentially unknown) side effects / risks will be triggering. I personally would like to see more information about long term risks of the medication.

JustWalkingTheDogs · 13/01/2025 22:19

I'll definitely die early if I remain obese, I only 'might' die of the injections.

JustWalkingTheDogs · 13/01/2025 22:19

Quite. I was morbidly obese with 12 stone to lose so the risk versus benefit analysis was pretty simple. I am reducing my risk overall by taking Mounjaro, not increasing it.

EveryDayisFriday · 13/01/2025 22:25

I have no issue with taking prescription drugs. I've smoked/ vaped/ drunk alcohol/ eaten junk food for many years so taking a medicine that could help me isn't a worry to me.

I need to lose 3 stone and would consider going on this injection but terrified in case it affects the pancreas and what it may do to it - my friend died of pancreatic cancer - it really scares me!

BringOnTheSunshineNow · 13/01/2025 22:28

Interesting point about the jabbing @Snoozysu I think that's probably right

Yep

And that’s fine, you can wait for that. No one will force you to take it unless you’re ready.
