MJ - accidentally screwed up!

I've just ballsed up my 'bonus dose'.

I went up to 5ml this month which I took for three weeks but the nausea was getting worse so for week four I counted 30 clicks and had 2.5, within days I felt better and the suppression was still good so I'm happy I've found my maintenance level (got a consultation scheduled tomorrow to discuss maintenance going forwards).

Anyhoo, went to do my bonus dose tonight, forced the pen, of course it doesn't click so being tired after a busy day at work, I twisted away and injected..... So I have just given myself 7.5 😭

Can't believe I was so stupid. I know in theory it isn't going to harm me but I'm dreading the effect it might have if 5ml made me constantly nauseous.

I guess this is a bit of a pity post. Just tell me to man up and get over myself, I can take it. Just wanted to vent to people who'll understand and may also have done something similar.

Awk bless you, this is common and why it's not advised to take the 5th dose (I'm not lecturing, I take it too!)

You may feel crap, you may not, but as you say it's not a harmful dose as such

I hope you get by OK. The fact you took last week means your levels have dropped a bit which may help, who knows

SilenceInside · 12/01/2025 20:50

How did you take 7.5mg in one go from a 5mg pen?

How did you take 7.5mg in one go from a 5mg pen?

I think the 4th dose was 2.5 and not 5mg so clicking and hard twisting the pen fully would equate to 7.5mg, actually more though to allow for pen priming x

giggly · 12/01/2025 21:00

Sorry you feel like crap but this is exactly why prescribed medication should only be used as per manufacturers guidelines and not by individuals on SM/ TikTok etc.
MJ has been used for ten years and I’ll bet no one who ever uses it for diabetes has ever taken the “golden dose “ that was invented by us private paying people to save money.
Exactly the same as clicks, absolutely stupid in my opinion.

Cantbesure · 12/01/2025 21:07

Oh dear. Like you say it won't do you any harm. Fingers crossed you don't suffer with side effects. Was there anything left in the pen when you finished? I use a syringe for my 5th dose. 0.6mls is a full dose from any pen.

Try not to panic.

JC50 · 12/01/2025 21:07

Ah well, we live and learn as they say.

I absolutely agree this is why we shouldn't mess with medication but with it being so costly, it's exactly why so many use the bonus dose.

It's likely my maintenance will be 2.5 so no chance of messing up again cos I won't be having the 5ml pens hopefully.

Let's see what tomorrow brings .....

How did you find your weight loss during the 3 weeks on 5 over 2.5?

Absolutely, and like I said, I take it too.

I also counted clicks for months, as 5mg was a touch too much for me

Of course some posters will think that's 'stupid' but you gotta do what you gotta do

Tailfeather · 12/01/2025 21:12

You may well have more nausea, sulphur burps and an upset stomach. Hopefully not much worse than that. Really hope nothing totally dreadful.

SilenceInside · 12/01/2025 21:13

Oh, wow, that is a fair old mistake to make. I hope you're ok, the jump from 2.5mg to 7.5mg is pretty massive.

I have done the hard twist to do a bonus dose twice in the past, I do understand the reasons behind it. But if you're going to do it then you have to be absolutely certain you understand the dose of the pen in mg, the volume of the dose in ml and what you're actually going to inject. Double and triple check.

Redlightbulb · 12/01/2025 21:21

I have made an error in the past using the bonus dose too OP.
To do with injecting too much after I broke the pen but the plunger would not go all the way down.

It was fine just had really strong suppression for a few days.
I now only use insulin syringes for the 5th dose so I can measure accurately and not stress if the breaking the pen does not work.
Would much rather stick to the guidelines 100% but the medication is so expensive it is like chucking away £40 a month if you don't use it.

MathsMagpie · 12/01/2025 21:08

How did you find your weight loss during the 3 weeks on 5 over 2.5?

Well I got to my target weight in this time but not in a good way. I dropped my last half stone within two weeks which is why I did the half dose. The suppression was really strong and with the constant nausea, I could barely eat. What I did eat, I didn't enjoy so all in all it wasn't a good couple of weeks!

Got my consultation later today about maintenance as I don't want to lose any more.

I don’t understand how you administered 7.5? Even with the 5th dose if you twisted all the way to 1 that is still just a regular dose so from a 5mg pen, it would be 5mg?

TryingAgainAgainAgain · 15/01/2025 00:19

How are you doing, @JC50?

BigSilly · 15/01/2025 05:54

After 4 doses, I have significantly more than one dose left, more like one and a half. So your dose may have been more than 7.5, anything up to 10. On the positive the drug remaining in your blood would not have been much if you had 2.5 last time.

JC50 · 15/01/2025 09:36

TryingAgainAgainAgain · 15/01/2025 00:19

How are you doing, @JC50?

The nausea is there but bit as bad as when I had the 5ml for three weeks but the sulphur burps are horrible!

Thanks for asking x

Good that you're not too bad, @JC50. Before you take another dose it would be wise to use the plotter to see the knock-on effect of this larger dose:
