Getting so bored now. Take a look at these pics - am I slim enough to start tapering off MJ?

Of course I know it's not down to Mumsnet what I do but I can't decide whether I am now at target! It's always been a somewhat moving target and I never look super slim anyway because I'm quite short!

Started at a lb under 15 stone. So 15 stone then! I'm now about 9 stone 9 to 9 stone 11 depending on the day!

BMI was 36 and is now 23.7

I just don't know whether to stop now and start maintenance or push for another half a stone

I've not lost huge amounts in recent months - down to about 4 lbs a month loss now, if that

Anyway - thoughts please? I've gone from a size 16 to a 10 and feel pretty good but need to decide what to do

Ahh @minipie that's all lovely in theory but it's just not true sadly. Scientifically not true and especially not true after MJ which produce a physiological change in the body whilst you're taking it

All fatties, past and present, know the mechanics behind calories in and calories out. Maintenance is extremely hard - weight loss is the easy bit. Weight watchers and slimming world would have gone bust decades ago if reaching a goal weight meant successful maintenance then followed

Ok! It seems counterintuitive that maintenance would be harder than losing, but I suppose it’s psychologically harder as there isn’t the reward.

You also talk about losing being harder because of the hunger.

With WLI, there's little to no hunger

When you stop, it comes back with a vengeance.

Well it just comes back, there is nothing to indicate it is different to the hunger before.

and that’s why we can stay on the drugs, due to the regain risk, stopping is a personal choice, I personally will not, but will stay on a maintenance dose.

Not necessarily. Mine hasn't. I feel slightly more hungry than when on MJ but it's very manageable. And I also think maintenance is more manageable; there may be slight hunger but not as much as when you have to be in a huge deficit in order to lose about a pound a week. It's so daunting when you look at the weeks / months / years it will take to get where you want to be.
Whereas with MJ it usually happens quite quickly.

HesDeadBenYouCanStopNow · 15/01/2025 15:29

With diets typically maintenance is harder than losing. There can be tendency to revert to previous habits and portions. There can be issues with the lack of positive self feedback around weight loss.

Those I've seen do it well in other programmes have kept up the habits they put in place during losing but then adding a controlled amount more week by week until they find their maintenance level

The difference with MJ is that I'm not just losing weight due to calorie deficit, I would be in negative calories per day if that were the case based the calculation of 3750 calorie deficit to lose pound I'd be on -4000 calories per week to lose the 1.5+ stone in 5 weeks.

I do wonder what stopping might look like, if I need to stay on it I will, a small amount to pay to improve my health and hopefully have a mobile old age 😊

@FerretChops what is it that you're bored with?

I keep considering trying this.

CorsicaDreaming · 15/01/2025 21:40

@FerretChops - please could you tell me the beginner weights training you found online that you mentioned early on the thread and liked the look of? Thanks.

I'd really like to do some but need to find a good beginner's one.

You look fantastic OP and you're an inspiration - I find your posts very encouraging. I've been accepted for Mounjaro from Juniper today so just waiting for it to arrive! My plan is to stick it right in 😂

I thought this looked ok? Short enough not to be overwhelming, looks relatively easy and simple to follow.

I think this one is where I'll start. Err when I start! Grin

@JoanCollinsDiva that's the spirit 🤣 honestly, you don't feel a thing. Just don't whip it straight out - I always count to 10 to make sure it's all in fine! And then I whip it out!

Exciting! Think of all the clothes for summer

@FerretChops - thanks very much for the weight lifting video links - I will definitely make a start at some point soon, too 🤣

I always feel like I am wading through treacle in January - but maybe this will inspire me to do something good…

Do love your username, by the way - it is hilarious and brings up a fabulous image!

FerretChops · 16/01/2025 20:04

@CorsicaDreaming ha I do love a stupid user name. I was doing the 'dance of the skinny whip' last night in front of my husband, looking all ferret-y.

Yes, I'm a very silly goose

I bet he was most appreciative 🤣

FerretChops · 16/01/2025 20:37

@CorsicaDreaming spends a lot of time with his head in his hands looking pained.

Dunno why

Ha! Well I don't know what to say to that!!

We probably need to see the video, or at least a diagram! 😄🤣
