I’ve been on mounjaro for 3 months, lost two and a half stone, previously I lost half a stone before that, I’m now a stone overweight.

I look different. Like I can see it significantly. Everyone can. As all the bloating has gone off my face and tummy,

when we gain weight it’s usually over a long period, so no drastic sudden appearance changes, but this loss is rapid in comparison to thE years and years if can take to gain significantly and become obese , so our appearance can change quite rapidly. Mine did. 3 months ago I was bloated and obese.

how are you all finding that. From how you mentally adjust and dress, to comments you receive etc from others? How you dress, how you now present yourself?

I feel like they don't mean well, they mean thin but don't want to say so because they think judging people on their thinness is bad, even though that's what they're actually doing

Some people look gaunt and unwell after losing well. Especially their faces lose plumpness, so looking "well" is different to looking thin/gaunt/unwell imo

Geranyums · 13/01/2025 13:56

Sorry - that should say 'after losing weight'

I agree, but I don't think it's what people mean when they say,
"wow! You look... (beat)... well!"

It's not the sense I get anyway. I have never been told I look well when I am well, only when I am thin.

Onceachunkymonkey · 13/01/2025 17:06

Used to be when folks said you look well, it meant you looked fat. Now for some it’s you look thin and unwell.

if I say to someone they look well. I mean it. There is no hidden bitchy sub text there,.

Yes, me too @Onceachunkymonkey
Usually qualified by "have you been on holiday, you've got a lovely glow" or "I love your new hair" or whatever. If I think someone has lost weight and I know them well enough, I'll say so. Especially if I know them well enough to know that they've been trying to lose weight iykwim.

I don't think the subtext to "wow.. you look... well" is necessarily bitchy, it's just a disconnect between what they're thinking (she is thinner and therefore looks better) and what they think is permissible to say. I think it mostly comes from a good place or if not good, then just a bit confused and wary of breaking some rule about mentioning weight.

@WorriedRelative I am really sorry you are going through a rough time but this is the weight loss injection section of Mumsnet so I assumed that's what we were talking about rather than weight loss through stress or illness.

That is what I am talking about. My weight loss is due to weight loss injections. I am happy with my weight loss. I am explaining that's why people might not be commenting on it.

I’m also getting that thing of “there’s no way you can lose two more stone, you’d look emaciated”, which clearly I would not. So I’ve also started underplaying that.

I think it’s the difference, it’s also weird that no one comments for weeks and weeks when you start losing as it is not visible , then all of a sudden everyone is you lost weight!

it weirdly suddenly becomes apparent.

I've lost three stone and getting great compliments from my family.. friends and even my GP ..hairdresser and neighbour.
I'm dressing the same. Just selling and buying on vinted. I even got some of the same clothes in smaller sizes.
I've treated myself to a brand new winter coat.
I feel great .. especially on holiday ( here now in the Canaries). I'm going to have my hair restyled and change my make-up.
Well done to everyone.

Agree with all of this.. I'm just over 4 stones down and now every person comments.. I'm like no one commented 2 months ago or 4 months ago but now every one seems to want to say "you've lost weight" as if I didn't know..

And when I told someone I plan on losing 2 more stonw they said oh dont go too far.. I'm like 2 more is still a bmi of 25 I actually going for 3 more haha.
