I’ve been on mounjaro for 3 months, lost two and a half stone, previously I lost half a stone before that, I’m now a stone overweight.

I look different. Like I can see it significantly. Everyone can. As all the bloating has gone off my face and tummy,

when we gain weight it’s usually over a long period, so no drastic sudden appearance changes, but this loss is rapid in comparison to thE years and years if can take to gain significantly and become obese , so our appearance can change quite rapidly. Mine did. 3 months ago I was bloated and obese.

how are you all finding that. From how you mentally adjust and dress, to comments you receive etc from others? How you dress, how you now present yourself?

I’ve gone from a large 14 to a size 6/8 and I’m very tall at (5ft 11) so people do notice. I find it all really embarrassing. A woman the other day who hadn’t seen me for a while went on for a good few minutes about how thin I am. I literally don’t know what to say. Ive had lots of negative comments from family as well which is hard to cope with.

Can I be really nosy and ask you what you weigh now, and what your build is like?

I'm the same height as you (at the start of my WL journey at size 16) and struggling to work out what my goal should be. It's been so long since I was my ideal weight and I know vanity sizing has changed things a LOT in those years so I don't know what's achievable and what size corresponds to what weight.

Smallsalt · 13/01/2025 00:48

I have near enough halved my body weight and hardly anybody has said a thing!

AppleDumplingWithCustard · 13/01/2025 01:03

I’ve lost 4st and have gone from a size 14 to a size 8-10. Everybody has noticed and are being very complimentary. I love the way I look and am enjoying wearing anything I want to without scrutinising myself for lumps and bumps. I also feel healthier and no longer get breathless when climbing stairs or generally exerting myself. I now have a healthy BMI for the first time in years.

May09Bump · 13/01/2025 01:12

I wouldn't comment unless you were a really close friend as believe it's rude / can get it wrong depending on the persons situation. I have said in the past, you're looking well, which is my middle ground.

It's lovely to hear most posts are about the weight loss having a really positive effect on their life.

LoserWinner · 13/01/2025 01:34

I lost six stone over 18 months. People didn’t comment - but quite a few people I knew reasonably well, but hadn’t seen for a while, didn’t recognise me. To be fair, I also cut my hair really short and inevitably changed the way I dress…

Onceachunkymonkey · 13/01/2025 07:33

Six stone and half your body weight is huge losses, well done.! @LoserWinner @Smallsalt

im surprised close friends or family didn’t comment, I’d expect acquaintances to steer clear. but I note a pp said she had a family member lose and didn’t comment either, just in case they were unwell or something, so I think it’s a thing, you just all know very polite people.

i think on balance I prefer people to comment, I know they are thinking it, and as said, it’s an adjustment for me, so It must be for them.

How’s everyone finding the clothes buying? Are you holding off till you hit target, or buying stuff in the sales/vinted etc?

I am so glad you said that!!

I’m the EXACT same, I’ve lost 2 stone and it’s not just in my head but I am noticeably slimmer however NOT ONE person has commented positively or negatively, no one 😵‍💫

Me too, I guess we just know very polite people!

I don't actually think I look better, my face in particular looks worse, saggy and old. Also I have no bum to speak of, after years of squishy magnificence.

Just thinking of my heart and joints which will surely benefit.

I had a few things I had kept that I can squeeze into now, otherwise vinted all the way. Baggy pants ain't flattering 😁

Of course. I’m not sure about build. Average I guess. My feet are a 7 so maybe not as big as some my height. I range between 10st 4 and 10 st 6 at the moment. I don’t think it’s particularly thin.

I had some size 12s in my wardrobe - but have had to buy some new work clothes - my trousers wouldn’t stay up and the last time I was a size 12 the fashion and my style were different. And of course bras!

I have sold clothes on Vinted but buy new (personal ick issues about wearing other people’s clothes - which I need to get over).

I am 9st 13 this morning which is really exciting. 9lbs to go which I think will be a size ten.

I am nicer to myself when my body is smaller - but better quality clothes. I am trying to build a good quality capsule wardrobe- I sold a lot of clothes on Vinted that while they fit I either hated them or had never even worn them!

HereIfYouNeedMe · 13/01/2025 08:10

People in my life clearly have no filter as I get it in the playground, both work places, home 😂. Someone I briefly worked with stopped me in the playground on Friday and asked what diet I've done. It's a great confidence boost but I find I'm telling everyone it's mounjaro, I don't like oversharing and wish I hadn't said it now. Can't help but be honest when openly asked! 😬

Onceachunkymonkey · 13/01/2025 08:36

I bought some stuff in the sales. I’m a 12/14 and know my body well enough to know I will be a ten when I get to goal, the stuff I bought was all in a small and stretchy, so I could wear them as I move down. Tops basically.

I also found my size 12 work trousers now fit me, which is great, and the 14s a little loose, but I’ve not been able to wear trousers for ages, and have been wearing bias cut skirts with an elasticated waist, or stretchy thick jumper dresses when I am in the office.

As I didn’t want to admit how big I was, or start buying clothes in an 18, as the truth was even when I tried on a 16 with a fixed waistband, they were tight on my tummy, even though I told myself I was a 14. I wasn’t, so just buying stretchy stuff allowed me to keep deluding myself ..

I honestly don’t care if people notice or not. I’m happy just going downstairs in the morning thinking I’m now giving Claudia Schiffer a run for her money.

I even do one of those slinky model walks. 🤣

I totally relate to this. For years, if I thought about losing weight I'd have a knee-jerk fear response. I tried to dig into why, but I don't really know. Have assumed also that it's mostly to do with protection.

I feel glad I am not alone.

i think its been my go to excuse too! "I would if I was thinner..." and weirdly.. I have recently had this revelation...its protection against not having enough food to eat, to have some in storage!.... when I was a kid I was often hungry 🫥

This drug is like therapy for me!

healthybychristmas · 13/01/2025 09:02

I don't know why everybody thinks someone might be seriously ill when they've lost weight. Obviously I know that can be the case but surely when someone rocks up in a new outfit and a big smile on their face and looking happier than they have for years, why would somebody think they might be dying? And if you thought someone might be seriously ill, why on earth wouldn't you ask them, if you knew them well?

Vegemite123 · 13/01/2025 09:39

I'm thankful that few people have noticed/commented. Partly because, despite losing 17% of my body weight, I still feel huge. So it's embarrassing to think about how big I was :( I've not gone down more than a size, though that's probably because I was kidding myself before.

It's cold, and I'm usually rugged up in many layers, so it might be spring that people notice. I'm planning to get back into running, so that will help keep the questions away as it's an explanation. And when people do notice, I tend to say "oh, since our car has been broken down, I've done a lot more walking" (this is an analogy).

Like a previous poster, I've been buying a couple of identical clothing items in a smaller size. I'm not one for change :D And a lot of my smaller clothes just don't suit me, or are very unfashionable now. I don't want to buy too many new things as I'm hoping to still drop another size, and it's hard to buy on vinted as my big boobs and thighs are tricky to fit.

Those who have said that they are sashaying around town, and thrilled with the compliments - awesome! Don't let my whinging put you off, I'm genuinely happy that you're feeling so good.

In my case I'm not looking happier than I have for years. I'm looking pretty miserable, I have had a stressful and upsetting life event. Many people in the same situation would be off their food, so it is reasonable for friends and colleagues to think that my weightloss might be due to that.

If it were due to stress and lack of self care then it would be unhelpful to compliment it.

How’s everyone finding the clothes buying? Are you holding off till you hit target, or buying stuff in the sales/vinted etc?

I had to wear ‘smart business wear’ for work, and I went from size 20 to size 8, so I had to buy clothes while I was losing. I did it very cheaply - for each two sizes I dropped, I bought a couple of pairs of trousers from Primark and a smart jacket from eBay. A colleague who had gained weight gave me a couple of really smart Boden dresses which saw me through formal occasions.

Once I stabilised at my target weight, I got rid of all my old clothes (10 sacks!) through Freecycle and bought a small selection of clothes to form a kind of capsule wardrobe. Now I have a very strict one-in-one-out rule with clothes, and as I have retired, I mostly wear jeans with tops/jumpers depending on the weather. I’m still trying to decide whether my beautiful size 16 tweed coat can be altered, or whether I should let that go and invest in a new one.

I think the coat won’t look right if altered as a 16 is so different to a 8. But potentially wearing it over sized might work, as that is very fashionable now. If not let go and treat yourself.

I’ve also had a clear out, 8 sacks, but more because I was basically clothes hoarding, I’m ashamed to say some still had the labels on. Buying to fit into one day, or as I thought they would fit me as I got fatter, and didn’t, and I shoved quickly at the back of the wardrobe, ashamed.

I know what you mean OP. I lost 3.5 stone (from a 14 to an 8/10) and contrary to others on here, loads of people have commented. Even people on the school run who I barely know. I find it so uncomfortable and am looking forward to it stopping.
In terms of adjusting to your new appearance, personally I’m struggling to notice much of a difference in myself. Even though I logically know I look completely different, I don’t really see it myself. I do feel a million times more comfortable in my skin though, and am pleased to be buying clothes I actually like, and not just ones that ‘would do’ because they hid my stomach, for example.
It is all taking a bit of adjustment, for sure.

gimmemounjaro · 13/01/2025 13:01

I have lost 50lbs with about another 30 to go, started at size 18 and now 12-14. Nobody has really said anything, except my immediate family who are encouraging and nice about it.

I don't mind people commenting but would much prefer, "wow you've lost some weight, you look great" than what I normally get when I lose weight, which is a mealy mouthed "you look really well". I feel like they don't mean well, they mean thin but don't want to say so because they think judging people on their thinness is bad, even though that's what they're actually doing 🤷‍♀️

bookworm8500 · 13/01/2025 13:02

Would you like them to comment? I get some people don’t. I’m completely fine with it, and prefer it’s acknowledged, as I’d rather people said it than said nothing and thought it to be honest. But others disagree.

Regarding clothes, I have recently discovered Vinted and sold a lot of my larger clothes on there, plus a lot of stuff I am now thin enough to wear but no longer want to (endless pairs of skinny jeans for starters).

I buy myself nice things on there too, quality things that I know I can resell after a few months if necessary. Plus I have two YP (20 and 18) who lurk around like vultures when a Vinted parcel arrives, in the hope that it will fit them and not me. So it's become a bit of a shared experience, which is really nice. And I don't mind them pinching something that only cost me £3 or whatever, they are poor students after all 😂

Anything not good enough for Vinted goes to Salvation Army, they have very convenient bins in our local Tesco car park.
