Mounjaro/Constipation

PolaDeVeboise · 07/01/2025 11:10

I've been on MJ since October, but the constipation issue hasn't eased, in fact has got worse - it's been just over a week since my last poo. I'm on 5mg, which is working (albeit slowly, only 1.5st since I started). I have been taking physillium husk tablets, but they don't seem to be doing anything. I rdrimk an average of 2l of a day. Any suggestions?

More fibre. Try adding chia seeds to meals as well.

I would be inclined to seek some medical advice if this particular episode goes on much longer.

Are you eating much fruit? Are you active? A probiotic might help too.

Gettingslimmer · 07/01/2025 11:47

Are you drinking the water with the psyllium husk? It can have the opposite effect if not.

otherwise have you tried senoket. And how much are you eating?

If you’re doing everything right, then I’d stop.

thesaskedminger · 07/01/2025 11:51

What are you eating?

PolaDeVeboise · 07/01/2025 12:25

I have boiled egg on multiseed toast for brekkie, Mushroom soup and a banana for lunch, and something like chicken with brown rice and broccoli for dinner. Probably need to eat more fruit... I always drink water when taking physillium tabs.

Egg can sometimes cause constipation - can you try porridge instead? That's helped me.

LadySnoresMuchly · 07/01/2025 12:46

Eggs won't be helpful. Try dried fruit. Or fresh but I think dried is more effective.

FlappingMadly · 07/01/2025 13:24

Up your fibre. I would increase your veg rather than fruit. Hope you get relief soon!

Andywarholswig · 07/01/2025 13:31

I found a glass of prune juice every afternoon after lunch sorted me right out. Game changing actually!

IReallyNeedThisToWork · 07/01/2025 13:51

Having had weight loss stall when I started 7.5 due to constipation, I bought some Dulcoease. Bloody marvellous things!!! 😁

PolaDeVeboise · 07/01/2025 13:58

Don't stop the egg as it's great nutritionally. Good hydration and fibre will sort you out.

They do different things. Dulcoease is a stool softener. Senokot is a stimulant laxative and contains senna, which irritates your gut to move everything along. Neither should be used long-term. I'd start with dried prunes or prune juice.

Wowser - a week??
What’s it like when you do go? Is it very difficult and you have to strain?

I had this on and off with MJ and it was causing issues for me as I need to avoid straining due to piles.

when I knew I was backed up I just ate dried prunes and not much else until things got moving, and have tried to continue with the dried prunes daily.

I find it hard as the MJ seems to reduce my natural desire to drink.

But definitely try different things to get on top of it, agree eggs can be binding so not wise.

Pulses and beans have fibre and protein. If you go on the goodfood website you can search for high fibre recipes. Bulgur wheat has more fibre than rice, I sub that quite often. Nuts and seeds on everything.

leli · 07/01/2025 14:45

Try Fybogel sachets. I got mine from Amazon. I took 1 per day in warm water plus 2 x psyllium husks per day. Did the trick. I’m now on 10mg and gradually the constipation has disappeared but it was intense at 2.5 and 5. I began my journey in June ‘25.

nebular · 07/01/2025 18:00

I have suffered on and off. I found ducolese the most effective, but also movement, such as cycling legs and bringing knees up to your chest, helpful too.

Strawber · 07/01/2025 18:11

What brand of psylum husks are you taking?

unsync · 07/01/2025 18:32

Eggs and bananas are binding, so won't be helping if you are not having enough fibre. I have prunes every day for my breakfast. Dried apricots can have a similar effect. I'm 90 kg and my food app says I should have 25 grams of fibre a day.

What form of exercise are you doing? How often? Lots of stretching and twisting, and ab exercises will help.

cloudjumper · 07/01/2025 18:51

Try linseed - a tablespoon with your cereal, or sprinkled in salad. And up your water intake to 3 l.
Lactulose helps to get things moving, then keeping up with flaxseed

lovealongbath · 07/01/2025 20:45

1 spoon of flaxseed on yogurt, in porridge or protein drink = regular 💩

AnotherNameChange0 · 07/01/2025 21:52

I had the same problem and got a bottle of lactulose from the pharmacy. Was sorted within a few hours Smile

ObsidianTree · 07/01/2025 21:57

Take some magnesium citrate as well. I take that and psylum husks and they keeps me regular.

I use those too. I've only had taken it two or three times and only one or two tablets in total each time but the constipation was absolutely shocking, though only happened twice in six months. I wasn't doing anything differently to any other month.
