Hungry after a break

I took an accidental week off Mounjaro (didn't factor in Xmas delivery). Took next dose exactly 1 week late yesterday. Usually I have pretty mych zero appetite minday-wednesday and have to make myself eat, but I've been so hungry today. It was a dose up as well!!

Have I fucked up by taking a break??

No, not fucked up. Just the levels of Mounjaro in your system have dropped to lower than you've been used to recently. They will build back up again,

You can use the GLP1 Plotter website to create graphs that show the levels of Mounjaro in your system each week. It might be useful to compare what the levels would have been on your expected schedule to what they are on your actual schedule.

SweepingChimneys · 06/01/2025 22:23

No, you haven't fucked up.
Just get back on to it and your appetite will reduce again.
But this is my worry, and I've worried about it for months: when we do eventually stop MJ when we get to goal weight and noone will issue us any MJ pens anymore because we're no longer overweight, how the heck are we ever going to cope or deal with the insane levels of hunger that are going to return once we've stopped???? However will we be able to control that incredible level of hunger?
I feel like everyone is focusing on the appetite reduction whilst they're taking MJ, but nobody is thinking about how they're going to maintain their new weight once they're no longer allowed to buy MJ because they're no longer overweight and the overbearing hunger returns.
I had 1 week without it due to delivery delay......Lord above I felt hunger like I've never known. It was all consuming. My brain was going "food, food, food, food" 24/7. Then my order arrived, I took it, and within 48 hours the food noise stopped and my insane hunger reduced again.
How am I - and everyone else - gonna cope when we can't have it anymore?!?!?

SweepingChimneys · 06/01/2025 22:25

P.S. Amazing weight loss - 2 stone since September!!! That's incredible! Well done!
It has taken me since May until now to lose 2 stone on 7.5mg!

I've been taking Mounjaro for 6 months now, and I'm about half way through my estimate of how long I'll need to be on it. Maintenance is pretty much the main thing that I think about in regard to the whole process.

Pharmacies are gradually moving towards having maintenance plans for people to continue to take Mounjaro, as long as they're not losing any more weight. That can continue for a fair while potentially. I would want to try and manage without, and I know that it will potentially be hard work. I'm constantly thinking about how I will be able to manage it and working out strategies for coping. But I know now that I can always restart if my BMI ever gets back up to 27 or higher (I have a weight related health condition).

I haven't heard of that, thank you. I'll definitely have a look.

Thank you, it coincided with a very active new job which I think was the key. Well done to you too, such an achievement!

Did you maintain the same calorie intake while you had a week off? Your body quickly adapts to calorie changes and wants more if given more, that's how intermittent fasting works so well.

Checking the forums there are plenty on WLI who didn't break over Christmas and gained weight purely due to increased calorie intake.

Refocus now and make sure you are eating high levels of fibre and protein, they reduce hunger levels generally even without WLIs.

I think you might find that that ravenous hunger would be an initial thing and would subside and get back to normal after a few days.

There are tons of us on MN thinking about (and researching around) this topic - whilst some people may well be able to maintain long-term without MJ, it’s possible to just continue taking it at a reduced dose… there is no “when we can’t have it anymore” - or at least, only if you decide yourself you don’t want to take it any more

A few pharmacies are starting to offer decent maintenance options in the UK and if you look on Reddit you can read US experiences of maintaining as they’ve been taking MJ for weight loss for a lot longer so have more people already facing this situation.

Is it really insane and increased hunger? Or just new when MJ reduces?

I was really really hungry yesterday yes. Like period plus hangover hungry.
Was fine all day today though. Was hungry at dinner time, but then I had a very small breakfast and lunch.
