Intermittent mild pain upper right back

Ive been on mounjaro for 5 days so early in my journey but all going well.

Over the last 24 hours I’ve had a very mild, intermittent cramping feeling on my right side sort of round the back. Sort of under my ribs but to the side/back. It’s like a very small period cramp that lasts seconds before disappearing. Probably 3-4 times per hour. I’ve been incredibly bloated anyway and was constipated yesterday which has eased this morning. Lots of burping yesterday too. Hasn’t got any worse over this time and maybe slightly better.

There is no severe pain, the location isn’t quite right for gallbladder issues and there is no tenderness. No fever or sickness. I’m going to make an appointment with GP but in meantime any other similar experiences on the board? Hoping it’s a bit of trapped wind but also don’t want to minimise anything.

thanks

Or maybe better to contact MedExpress?

Could be various things, and a GP is definitely best placed to do the diagnostics.

I had crampy pain in a similar area that ramped up over several days and turned out to be a kidney stone, but fingers crossed that's not what's happening in your case!

(I doubt the kidney stone was caused by the medication. It had probably been there a while and the weight loss and/or my focus on increasing hydration dislodged it.)

Thanks @TurtleNest, I would say it’s a bit better today so hopefully nothing major but would be good to get some medical advice. Have requested a GP appt.

Sorry to hear about your kidney stone! Were you able to continue the injections afterwards if you don’t mind me asking ?

Yes, no one mentioned any issues with continuing at all. I think the most I got was confusion when I disclosed I was taking it - as I'm a normal BMI now - until I explained that I was obese 6 months ago. 😂 One nurse did cheerfully comment that clearly the medication is working, then!

Do you mean in your flank area OP?

I had this a few years ago and unfortunately it was a kidney stone. The pain reminded me of contractions in that came in waves!

Couldn't hurt to book a GP appt

Thanks @TurtleNest and @macap the pain was more to the side but it’s stopped now (after a lot of breaking wind!) I did already have a GP appt booked by then and she did a full check. Almost certainly digestive but obviously to go back if it returns. She said that acute gallbladder issues, kidney stones or pancreatitis would be significantly more painful. She was so positive about mounjaro! Bit embarrassed to have worried about it but I was just being cautious I guess.
