@Shazzabelle Everyone starts on 2.5mg for your body to get used to the meds. I've read on other posts that unless you have really bad side effects everyone moves to 5mg for the second pen ie four weeks.

I only had to wait a couple of days from getting blood results to receiving first pen.

Won't be long for you now!

I 'd be struggling to get it posted today as where I live last collection not long away ( doubt i could do it and make it down hubby has the car)I didn't know I couldn't do it tommorrow I thought I read better if fasted for a few hours .

Pen has arrived. Instructions are massive. I'm amazed so many people are using this because I'm confused by them!
I'm now nervous to start but the losses shared on here are keeping me focused. Shall I do it in the evening or tomorrow morning???

BestDIL · 30/01/2025 17:21

@Shazzabelle

Unless it's changed in the last week my instructions were you didn't need to fast for the blood test and you can only do them Monday to Thursday. Check your instructions as like I say it may have changed. You need to collect blood and then get it to a post box that will be collected that day or take to your local sorting office.

It's the only bit of the process that's a pain, the rest is plain sailing!

If like me you have a BCG scar on your arm, be sure to avoid it. Blood test almost impossible if you put it there.

I'm 59 so if you're too young to know about BCG, it's the tuberculosis vaccine that in my generation left a scar on your arm.

Hope this helps x

If you go onto the SheMed app, and click Check In, it connects you to someone who will help guide you through it. You'll be asked to weigh again, so have your scales handy.

They will talk you through step by step on priming the pen and then injecting. It's really simple actually and once you have done it the first time, you'll be fine next time.

I checked in and injected first week mid afternoon but this week I did it first thing as I wanted my morning weight rather than afternoon. I'm going to stick to this. To be honest, don't think it makes any difference.

This stuff is amazing. I'm sat here replying to you and realise I've not had lunch! That's what it does to you.

Good luck, you'll be fine x

Margo84 · 31/01/2025 17:08

Hi guys just started my journey on this too. Should be arriving next week fingers crossed.
SW 89.45kg

Margo84 · 31/01/2025 17:10

Can I ask does it need to be kept refrigerated?
Just they advised they're sending it out either today or tomorrow but no one is home until Monday. I have asked them to send it next week as I'm concerned of it arriving and being left out.

It doesn't need to be kept refrigerated once opened but only has a life of 30 days when not refrigerated. . It's delivered with an ice pack so with the current cold weather you should be fine.

BestDIL · 31/01/2025 21:04

So I'm at week 2 day 2 and the indigestion is horrendous. I'm using the Rennie they sent but going out for something stronger tomorrow.

Any recommendations gratefully received!

Ahardyfool · 31/01/2025 23:11

Had my first check in today (second jab day). I was almost as nervous as the first time I took it, particularly as I had to go to the supermarket this evening immediately after dosing and was thinking what if THIS time so get ill. Was fine.
My total loss for week 1 is 1.9kg (4.18lbs) and 5.6kg (12.34lbs) since I started preparing for MJ around the 2nd week of January (eating low fat, no sugar high protein, etc.) so I’m going to try and ease up a bit now so as to avoid as much loose skin as possible.

Yes I also take Gaviscon double action as it's the best thing for heartburn

BestDIL · 01/02/2025 18:46

Thanks for the indigestion advice. Has anyone tried these?

I take prescribed omeprazole which I declared in my assessment form so they should be ok for you to take with MJ but it might be wise to check with your GP or Shemed.

I think I'd be tempted to try the Gavisgon first.

BestDIL · 01/02/2025 20:44

Thanks will do @Newshoesnewname

has anybody from Northern Ireland joined shemed? i read somewhere that you need to have a GP in England or Wales and i dont want to sign up and pay £49 to just be rejected.

I have and I hope that’s not the case or why would they even post bloody tests to us?

So the study has actually closed and we are among the lucky ones to get the bargain price! I'm so glad I did it.

Quick question for you all. What does everyone think about meal replacement shakes? I wondered if I could use them for a couple of lunches each week. I figures they have all the nutrients we need but maybe I'm missing something.

Kebabo · 03/02/2025 03:17

I use grenade protein shakes all the time when I struggle to find time to est at lunch. 30g of protein and 147 cals per serving (fudged up flavour) and it tastes really nice. I'm losing well on this with no side effects. (Lost 1 stone 4lbs in 2 weeks. Feel sure I will have lost again on my next jab day (Wednesday)

It's a great question and I thought a lot about it.
I previously used protein shakes and meal replacement but this has always been my difficulty on previous diets that it is not sustainable for me. I worry if I don't set my eating up now as I plan for it to continue once off MJ I will put on the weight like I have before (and some).

For this reason I have taken the long and sustained approach of 'could I eat like this forever' because that's what it will take.
Decided not to denie food groups just changed proportions. I know It means weight loss will may stall but want to eat not as close to what I should eat the rest of my life now and have a whole
year of practice.

Good luck whatever you choose. It's an individual choice. Xx

BestDIL · 03/02/2025 08:29

Thanks @Kebabo and @Reginaphalangeeeee

think I might use them when I am pushed for time only. @Kebabo it looks like they are probably responsible for your great losses. @ReginaphalangeeeeeI have the same approach as you, I’ve signed up for a year so I have ages. I don’t want to cut out anything so that I can have a normal life after MJ. However, in the back of my mind, I think I may be on it for life as I thinks will need help to maintain. We’ll see I guess xx

Just be careful of the added ingredients gums binders sugars etc
a good multivitamin might help, I use a whole foods one by cytoplan. I have to seriously work on my diet and getting in the necessary if my appetite gets suppressed. I’m not doing very good at that presently! About to do blood test in morning
